You sure it's Ice Kachang? Cry Mar 31, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Food Court

After my meal the other day, my boyfriend and I wanted to share a dessert. So we ordered Ice Kachang from the dessert stall at Food Opera.

While watching the lady at the counter prepare it, i could already tell from her lack of energy at making it that it wasn't going to taste good.

True enough, the ice kachang wasn't sweet enough. Too much ice and too little syrup. even the milk that was poured on top was practically non-existent. It didn't look appetizing nor did it taste appetizing. I guess the good point is that the looks and taste matched up with each other.

While digging in, i found one small atapchi and one slightly bigger one - how pathetic! And the shaven ice wasnt even smooth. I found myself crunching on a few ice bits.

And i thought desserts were supposed to be that sweet ending to our meals - looks like not this time.

Not Worth Your Money Cry Mar 20, 2011
Categories : Singaporean | Food Court | Chinese Soup

I had breakfast here this morning and ordered myself their hotpot soup with noodles.

At $4/-, it was a real waste of my money. The noodles were tasty and the serving portion was rather decent. However, it wasn't as QQ as i would have like it to be.

The hotpot soup was a a major disappointment. While the soup was quite nice, there was hardly any ingredients in it. All i got was one fishball, one meatball, one pathetic slice of fishcake, one egg, barely-there small bits of pork and a 2 lettuce leaves.

I have been to another place in AMK selling the same thing and the portion is at least double that - at the same price.

Bad start to my day.

Not Enough Fish In The Sea? Cry Mar 18, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Food Court

I went to Food Republic for lunch the other day and decided to order myself a bowl of sliced fish soup.

When the soup was served, i got a shock. It looked as though it was an entire bowl of soup with nothing else in it.

I could barely see the ingredients in it. The least they could do is to make it look more appetizing.

Just as I was about to eat, I realized that true enough, the portion of fish and vegetables was measly. sad
The soup was okay and the fish though quite tender, was comparable to those sold elsewhere.

And for those who frequent Food Republic, you'll know that the food there are priced slightly higher than the average foodcourt. That left me feeling quite cheated.

And even after finishing my meal, i still felt unsatisfied and still left hungry.

Only for special occasions OK Jun 18, 2012

Categories : Japanese | Hotel | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi | Kids-Friendly

I brought my boyfriend to Santaro thinking it would be nice to try top-quality authentic Japanese food for a change. I knew the prices were going to be steep, but I figured that the prices must mean that whatever's brewing in their kitchen, must be good.

Okay, so here's the thing. The meal was indeed delicious and authentic. The Sushi and Sashimi were extremely fresh and meticulously sliced to perfection. The Teriyaki Chicken and Unagi were beyond tasty, oozing with flavor, and melting in your mouth with every bite.

The Udon was heavenly. If you're a fan of this dish, you'll definitely have to try theirs. I swear I've never had soft and smooth udon noodles with such powers of seduction like this one.

So all in all, the food was amazing. But is it worth the price?

I personally don't think so.

The restaurant looked old, crammed and rundown. Maybe it's for the whole traditional Japanese feel - I don't know. But it felt lifeless and dull. We could even hear the kitchen from where we were sitting.

The service was much to be desired. They shouted to each other like we were in some hawker centre. Worse still, the waitress serving us spoke to us like we were in a coffee shop ordering drinks.

If the ambience was better and service up to standard, I might consider it to be a good place to go to for authentic Japanese food. But with all the negatives, I'd advice against that.

Disappointing Buffet  OK May 20, 2012

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Bars/Lounges | Hotel | Seafood

Visited Brizo at Park Hotel with my boyfriend for the first time... and most probably my last as well.

We made a reservation prior to our visit, but apparently, they did not record it down. The waitress at the entrance looked very confused when we told her we called to make a reservation. Worst still, she called another waiter, said something to him and he also looked confused. We ended up standing there with two bickering staff until the manager came and directed us to a table.

We were quite upset at the service because of her rude stare at us as if we were the ones at fault.

We put that aside and went to view the spread, which to our shock, was very limited. Definitely not worth the price paid.

They had sushi, oysters, salads, sashimi and other cold foods. All these were so-so for us.

They also had roast duck, pork belly, roast chicken, sea cucumber, fried rice, kuih pie tee, shrimp, squid, coffee pork ribs and soup.

The only two dishes worth the mention are the coffee pork ribs and roasted meat.
