Call me greedy, but every single time i walk past this stall, I can't help but give in to the temptation of their You Tiao.

For those of you who don't know what you tiao is, it is otherwise known as the long chopstick-looking deep fried dough fritters that always come in a pair. You'll definitely see them on display when you go by the stall. I should think it's the best selling item there as well.

Just like most deep-fried foods, the you tiao at this stall is simply irresistible - especially so when you get them freshly out from the fryer. But it's usually the case cos they sell like hot buns.

They are really crisp on the outside, and warm and soft to the touch on the inside. Similarly, i like the butterfly fritters (aka hum chim peng). This one has a tint of sweetness to it and is a great complement to a cup of their soya bean milk.

There is usually a long queue that keeps building up at this stall, So unless you are willing to wait in line, you should try to avoid peak hours.lol

Very good but very expensive Smile Mar 18, 2011

What You Do Prata doesn't just sell prata. In fact, they have a menu of other dishes such as Mutton Briyani and Chicken Briyani. chopstickchopstick

I've ordered from them quite a number of times before and today, I ordered my Chicken Briyani yet again! tongue

I have tried the prata here, but i think it's quite ordinary - nothing new or uniquely different from those sold at other prata joints.

Anyway, back to my briyani...
The standard of their briyani here is pretty good. I would recommend that you try it if you get the chance to.

Firstly, I love the way it's presented. Everything is served on a banana leaf, which is placed on a round metal tray base. i don't know about you, but presentation is very important to me.

The briyani rice looks so pretty and it tastes so yummy. The rich orangey-yellow color of the rice makes it look very appetizing, and fortunately, the taste matches up well. One thing i want to add, is that unlike many other places that serve briyani rice, this one doesn't pile your plate with rice until you're left with a heap of rice, more rice and nothing else but rice. huffy

The chicken thigh was well-marinated, juicy, tender and tasty. I wouldn't say it was extraordinarily good, but it was still good nonetheless.

The sides of curry gravy, some yogurt with sliced cucumber (don't know what it's called), and a vegetable dish of cabbage, were all average to me. But they did make the entire meal look and taste great 'cos of the variety of colours and flavours.

As a whole, everything complements each other to make the dish really yummy. But for the price of $8/- for the rice, chicken thigh, cabbage, and the small saucer of curry and indian yogurt (not ordered; they were part of the meal), i would seriously consider before ordering.

Categories : Food Court | Chinese Soup

Being the typical girl who watches her diet, I have my fat days as well. Whenever I feel like I need healthy food for a good detox, I would usually have fish soup.

This stall was recommended to me by my boyfriend. Quite honestly, I was surprised. He never liked fish soup and two years of being together, he never once ordered it.

But this stall caused a revolutionary change in him.

What attracted him to it was the several media clippings and magazine features that were pasted all over at the front of the stall. He couldn't accept the fact that fish soup could really be that good. So he posed a challenge by getting a bowl of fried fish soup - just to be the food critic he usually is.

And guess what, he loved it.
So he told me about it and suggested I try it for myself.

Wow! I have tried lots of fish soup around Singapore and this has got to be one of the better ones. So much so, I can't even count the times I've patronize this stall.

The sliced fish is very tender and very fresh. Doesn't matter whether you have it in the morning or at night, the quality and freshness of the sliced fish is just as good.

Similarly, you can taste the freshness and feel the tenderness of the fried fish. One thing I must add about the fried fish however, is the inconsistency of the batter coating. There are times where the fish is evenly coated, without clumps of batter, and there are times where I find myself bitting into a large piece of what I thought was fish but turned out to be deep- fried batter.

I also think they should be more generous with the portions of fish slices. I can't even see the fish sometimes when I order fish soup. The soup completely cover the fish.

If you aren't too keen on fish soup, they also have hotpot that includes sliced fish, fried fish,, fishball, pork ball, crabstick, and a freshly knocked-in egg. I quite like this when I want some variety.

The soup that they serve all their dishes in is very tasty. They probably boil it with the fish all day to give it such a rich taste. Never have I once not finished my soup.

It's healthy and delicious. Who said healthy food had to taste bland? Certainly not them.

Salads Galore Smile Mar 05, 2011

My parents have been bringing me to Sizzler's since I was really young. Probably explains why I grew up loving vegetables tongue

Till this very day, I'm still visiting the restaurant and even managed to influence my friends too. Well, I need the company, so I had no choice but to get them to like the place as well.

I usually go straight for the salad bar, which is what Sizzler's is known for. You can also order ala carte meals, which allows you to enjoy the salad bar buffet for free. Otherwise, the salad bar buffet alone is already about $18.

Their salads include coleslaw, egg mayo, potato salad, waldorf salad, crabmeat salad, mashed potato, etc. There's about 20 varieties to choose from and you'll be spoilt for choice.
It will turn even the most hardcore meat- lover into a vegetarian.

There's also noodles, spaghetti, soups and fresh fruits in the buffet spread. Not forgetting their yummy soft serve ice cream, with a choice of chocolate sprinkles, rainbow sprinkles and rich chocolate sauce.

The meals at Sizzler's are quite decent. There's beef steak, dory fish, chicken and pork chop, etc. I've tried most of them 'cos the friends I go with would usually order the main meals on top of the salad bar.

They are all very well prepared, but I think they should get a professional stylist to give them some food styling advice. The way the food is presented isn't very appetizing. But of course, real foodies cannot care less - as long as the food is good, who cares about presentation?

One thing I hope they'll change I'd the pricing across the entire menu. I find that the meals are too expensive for the portions served.

Apart from that, even though i noticed that they use student part-timers, the service there is quite good (compared to other places in Singapore).

I would say it's a must-try, even if you aren't quite in favor of vegetables and salads.

I have been a loyal customer of 3rd Generation Laksa & Prawn Noodles from the time they opened in Food Opera, to Food Republic 313@Somerset, and now here at NEX.

They serve up great stuff and their ingredients are very fresh.

Let me start with their Prawn Noodles. I usually order Prawn Noodles with Pork Ribs. Their prawns are boiled just right. I know of places that boil them too long, making them mushy.
And we know, a good bowl of prawn noodles is highly dependent on the soup.
3rd Generation makes great soup - flavorful, rich and addictive.

One thing I must add though, is that I find that their soup isn't very consistent in quality. There are days where if you're lucky, you get superbly awesome soup. But there are the few rare occasions where the soup is rather bland.

As for the Laksa, the taste of the gravy is simply shiok!! It is the right balance of lemak yet not over empowering on the tastebuds. It would be perfect however, if they were more generous with the prawns, cockles, fishcake and Laksa leaves.
But then of course, if you're one of those Laksa connoisseurs who go for the gravy, you'll definitely enjoy this.
