Local Casual Dining Smile Aug 08, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Restaurant | Seafood | Kids-Friendly

A group of friends and I met in Orchard and we were looking for a good and quiet place to sit down and have our dinner.
We wanted something simple and budget, and at the same time steer away from the usual food court.

We finally decided to settle for Prima Taste Kitchen, which is humbly located at the far corner of Centrepoint.

If you've gone to the supermarket often enough, you might have already noticed the whole range of Prima packet pastes on the shelves.

Well, this casual dining place not only sells their Prima packet pastes, they also serve an entire menu of local cuisines made from the same specialty pastes.

We looked through the menu and the price range is about $5 onwards. We all ordered the laksa, which is $5.50 for a standard bowl and $8.00 if you want cockles and chicken added.

The laksa was good, but i felt the flavour could have been slightly stronger. They were generous with the cockles, but unfortunately, I can't say the same for the chicken and fishcake and laksa leaves. sad

I would recommend this place if you want some local food, away from the hustle & bustle of the crowd.

You Won't Go Wrong with Saizeriya Smile Aug 05, 2011

Went to have lunch at Saizeriya with my boyfriend a couple of weeks ago. It was our 5th time visiting this Italian casual dining restaurant. It's quite hidden away in Liang Court and it's a pity I only learnt of it recently.

For such a convenient and central location, I honestly think that the food there is absolutely affordable and undeniably worth the price you pay.

They have everything from salads, soups, pastas, steaks and believe it or not, escargots!!

Almost everything on the menu is below $10.

From all our past visits, including this one, we have found that the quality and portions of their food are consistently good and completely worth it.
Top up $2.80 with your food and you'll get to enjoy free flow of drinks that include milo, iced lemon tea, hot coffee, soft drinks, etc.

Pretty cool huh? tongue

You guys should really try it out if you haven't already done so!

P.s. Sorry, I have many more pics of the other pages in their menu but OpenRice allows only a maximum of 8 pictures. sad

It's All About The Frog Smile Mar 23, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre | Porridge/Congee | Brunch

As you would have read, it's all about the frog at this food stall. Yes, it's their claypot frog leg porridge!

I've eaten here a few times already, although I would have more often. The thing is that the portions are really huge, so unless you have a HUGE appetite that day, i would suggest you bring a friend.

The first time i ordered from here, thank goodness i had my mum. They served us one big pot of porridge, which could have fed 2-3 people; and the gong bao frog leg was in another pot.

I don't know exactly how to describe the way it was prepared. It just looked just like gong bao chicken. Tasted the same as well. With the dried chilli and all.

Let me start with the porridge. It was very tasty on its own and it had a smooth consistency to its texture. The frog however, complemented it perfectly. It was uber delicious. But i found it a tad bit too spicy to actually enjoying it to the max.

It's a rare find for frog porridge to be sold at a market food centre like this, and i'm pretty glad i came across it.

A Rare Find OK Mar 23, 2011
Categories : Peranakan / Nonya | Multi-Cuisine | Halal

Chilli Api is a caterer that specializes in nonya and malay food. I was surprise when i came across their website at first because i didn't even think such a caterer existed.

I ordered from them for a small-scale company party. Some of the things i ordered were laksa, kuih pie tee, mee siam, chendol, croissants with salmon, assorted dim sum trio, chicken shepherd's pie and golden yam nest.

Let me start off with this. Because it was a company party, it would only have been professional for them to deliver the food on time, or at most, no longer than 10 minutes later. But instead, the guy came about 45 mins late, and he was sweating like crazy as he was displaying the food on the table. I was extremely unappetizing and disgusting.

Seeing him struggle with tray after tray of food was also very disturbing. He was taking on the role of the driver and delivery man. So his job was indeed very difficult due to the fact that he had to park his van and carry one tray at a time to the office.

Thankfully, the food saved them. The food was very good. Everything tasted as though there was heart and soul put into preparation and cooking. But keep in mind that the stuff they have are rather pricey to me.

So unless you have high tolerance for bad service and high prices, don't ever use them for events like this. But if you are completely fine with it, the food is pretty good - i would say go for it!

Healthy fare Smile Mar 20, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Food Court

Was here for dinner and i wanted to have something light and healthy.

I came across this Yong Tau Foo stall and the food selection looked quite good.
Everything looked fresh and there was quite a wide variety. One thing i noticed however, was that certain food items like the fresh cuttlefish, dried seaweed and black fungus, were very small.

Those were definitely not worth the price you would pay for a piece.

The entire selection consisted of about 20 over items and everyone fully replenished, unlike certain stalls that have empty food trays at their display.

Some of the items i chose were enoki mushroom, fried hard-boiled egg, crabstick, taupok, bitter gourd with fish paste, meatball, wanton, toufu and white cabbage.

Remember how i was supposed to eat healthy? Well, i ended up being tempted by their laksa gravy. So i opted for that.

Taste-wise, the gravy didn't exactly taste like laksa gravy. It was more of curry actually. But it still tasted very good and i ended up finishing almost all of it.

The yong tau foo tasted quite fresh, but on their own, nothing different from other yong tau foo stalls elsewhere.

Overall, it was still a satisfyingly good meal. Will return in the future if i plan on having something healthy (that's if i keep to it). tongue
