Soup Broth Asia is one of my favorite soup restaurant among others as they offer really different chinese style soups to their patrons at reasonable price. I have frequent this place for 3 times and almost tried all their soups listed in the menu.

I would recommend you to visit their website to decide on which soup to order if you are going there for your meal as you will be spoil for choices.

Currently they are having their couple and family promotions which entitles you to have 2 soups, 2 sides and 1 desserts. Was there last week so I decided to try their "Titanic" and "Fujian Cabbage Fish Stew". For sides, I ordered their Stir Fried Kailan with Oyster Sauce and Thai Basil Chicken.

"Titanic", which consist of Fish Maw, Shark Fins Melons and Chicken Thigh boiled in real chicken stock taste really nourishing and fresh. It tasted light too, which is a good sign of a no MSG soup.

"Fujian Cabbage Fish Stew" is like a hokkien style soup with big serving of the cabbage and fish slices. I would say this is something very healthy with only 230cals which is a good choice for people who is watching their diet.

The restaurant is spacious but with limited seats (seating capacity is about 50 I think) so try to avoid the peak dining hours. They also provide a ordering machine with NETS machine at the entrance of the shop if you want to skip the queuing crowd and self service on your orders instead. The servers will serve your pipping hot soup to you and their service is prompt and friendly.

Guess I'll be conquering all their soup menus soon with only a few more left to go!

Recommended Dish(es):  almost all their soups

Spending per head: Approximately $10(Dinner)

La Mian! Smile Dec 05, 2012

Categories : Noodles

Hong Hu Express offers a wide variety of chinese style ramen (la mian) for you to choose from. From the normal Ban Mian to Beef La Mian, or if you want something plain and simple, you can order their slice fish bee hoon.

Ordered their Kimchi Beef La Mian for my lunch and I like our spongy their noodles is (i prefer this kind rather than those soggy kind). Their serving of the kimchi is generous too. But I guess the beef is a little overcooked and it turns out hard and chewy for me.

For a quick lunch, I will definitely be going back again.

Beppu Menkan Japanese Noodles has always been my favorite Japanese restaurant serving authentic Beppu style ramen. One thing about their ramen that make it so popular and special is you get to choose the amount of hotness for your ramen soup base, from the mild hotness of 1 chili all the way up to the super boiling hot 8 chili ramen. Other than ramen, they do serve other Japanese dishes such as Curry Katsu Rice, Udon, and another of their specialty, Paper Pot and Sukiyaki.

Ordered their Fried Chicken Ramen (one of their signature dish) and chose a mild 2 chili hotness for my soup. With generous serving of the fried chicken (filling up the whole bowl covering the noodles) and cook to perfect ramen, it is a satisfying meal for me.

Service wise was good, fast and attentive. Free edaname was served before your main course as appetizer and ice water is on the house.

If you are craving for some really good ramen, you should give Beppu Ramen a try.

#1 comfort food Smile Nov 30, 2012

Categories : Teochew | Coffeeshop | Porridge/Congee

Porridge has always been my top favorite comfort food especially when the weather becomes cold. Ye Shang Hai Teochew Porridge serves a huge (really huge) variety of teochew dishes to go along with a bowl of hot watery porridge. You will definitely be spoil for choice and will tends to order a lot of side dishes because everything look so tasty and you will want to try a bit of everything.

To restraint myself, I ordered Baby Octopus in Sambal Chili, Lemon Chicken, Cabbage, Braised Peanuts, Braised Tau Kee and One Meaty Fish. I like the Baby Octopus the most - octopus is not chewy (over cooked) and the sambal sauce is not too spicy and taste awesome when you mix the sauce into your porridge.

Total bill came out to around $11 which I think is cheap for 2 pax.

Went there at around 9pm to avoid the car park peak hours but even then the car park is already full when we reach and the coffeeshop is about 3/4 filled with their patrons. Guess they are really popular for their cheap and nice porridge.

Opening hours is till midnight and I heard that it is famous among the cab uncles to satisfy their grumbling stomach if they are driving the graveyard shift.

Spending per head: Approximately $6(Dinner)

Traditional chinese dessert Smile Nov 30, 2012

Categories : Chinese Desserts | Desserts and Cakes

Ah Chew Desserts offer traditional Hong Kong style dessert in hot or cold and also a wide variety of desserts for you to choose from.

To satisfy the sweet tooth cravings of their patrons, their opening hours can be extended to quite late or until their hot dessert is sold out.

Was there near to 11pm and the place is nearly filled up even though it is a normal weekday. Ordered the big bowl of almond paste ($2.80) and was surprised that it is filled up to the brim, compared to some places outside which is only 3/4 filled.

I like the texture of the almond paste when it is served hot. Thick and creamy and is not too sweet. However, after a while when the almond paste has drop down to normal room temperature, it sort of become watery. So I guess you have to eat really quick to prevent the paste from become watery. bowl
