This isn't my first time at Genki Sushi. Since it was a really pleasant experience there the first time I went, I decided to recommend this restaurant to my friends again for a birthday celebration smile Before going down, I called Genki Sushi to make a reservation because I knew there would be a long waiting queue for this good food. However, no reservations are allowed. sad Upon reaching there at about 6.30pm, we waited more than one hour (7.30pm) just to get a seat inside! We needed to wait for a big table because there were 6 of us, but the waiting time is simply atrocious. It didn't spoil our moods because we had fun chit-chatting while waiting outside smile

After entering the restaurant, we were greeted by the waitresses and one of them came over to explain how the iPad ordering works. We got down to work quickly and started ordering happily!!! There is such a huge variety that we were really spoilt for choice, so we just ordered almost everything.

You can order 5 items and send your order first which comes on this electronic train. It's so cute and super super (!!!!!) efficient. You just press 'order', and then within 1 minute you will receive your food already. It is just this fast. I guess it made up of the long waiting time. On the iPad, you can also check how much you've spent.

Tip for ordering: Don't order any drinks, you can collect your own free iced water at the water dispenser. There's also free green tea powder at your table which you can mix with the iced water and you get iced green tea ;D Don't look at this suggestion in disgust, it actually tastes nice, just like normal green tea.

The Food

We ordered a whole lot because the iPad makes it so fun and impulsive to order, order and order!!! =D I will tell you the average price even after all this crazy ordering. It's really just click whatever you like to eat! We ordered the usual type of sushis to first satisfy our hunger before venturing into those funny looking ones.

Please order this sushi, it's really my favourite sushi out of everything there and it tastes fabulous!!!

My friends also randomly ordered (OMG :X) a lot of funny-looking dishes. The poached egg thing (top right) is just hard-boiled egg with a crunchy exterior. The egg yolk is the bomb - it is the sort of jelly-texture (half-cooked but not liquidy, semi-hard, oh so delicious) that I think everyone loves!!! But it is very expensive, I think $5+ for just that dish itself. It is a good try but really not worth it, so remember not to order that unless you are really hungry for the jelly-like egg yolk smile

Referring to the bottom centre item, it is some sort of really strong-tasting thing (I forgot the name) but I think it is oyster. The centre part looks hard but omg it is actually very soft!!! Even softer than tofu, I tell you (not exaggerating). We squeezed the lemon juice all over it and we dug in! Yums yums.. but it is so salty and sour (from the lemon juice) at the same time, and without any rice to go along, it's really too strong... another *interesting experiment*... It would go perfectly with a bowl of rice though.

The bowl of shark-fin-looking soup (no it's not shark fin...) is really delicious. Another must-order item!!! There are two flavours of the soup, we ordered both. I love both of it!!! It is definitely worth eating.

The rest of the sushis are just normal-delicious because I like sushis so I'll be biased when it comes to determining the taste.

(Actually this picture only shows a fraction of what we ordered because after I took this picture I just started eating frantically)

The Service
The waiter/staff who was managing the queue came around to first ask us how many seats we need and he also came around to explain that we will need to wait very long due to our big group. However his earlier estimation of 20mins was doubled before we had a seat... -_- Not his fault anyway, probably too fun inside for people to get out!!!

Previously we planned a birthday surprise so I passed the cake to one of the staff to help spring a surprise for both of our friends. She readily agreed and also produced two candles when I asked if they had any! Wow I was surprised smile

The Atmosphere
The train sushi-serving machine system beats the conveyor belt sushi in terms of innovation!!! smile It's really so fun to see our food delivered in a cute fashion. Loved it! The booths also give me a sense of privacy and at the same time not barricaded from service at any one point.

Overall
We paid about $15/pax (after GST) and it is actually quite acceptable given that we anyhow ordered like crazy. It felt like a buffet, seriously. I will definitely recommend to my other friends again, but never will I go on a weekend anymore. The queue is crazy! But that also goes to show how popular this place is ;)

Nestled in the Innovation Centre, Pitchstop is a rare gem of a restaurant and it has officially made me addicted. It looks very expensive but it really isn't, for what you are getting. There's a whole lots of perks on why you should visit Pitchstop for a try. I went with my friends and we can't stop raving about how good it is!!! Wonderful experience and totally did not feel like school at all. It felt like a friends outing even though we had a class after lunch - that's how relaxing the place is.

Perk No. 1: No GST and service charge (and it's service is really, really good!)
What you see on the menu, is exactly what you pay for. No additional costs, no ++ and you get superb service. What more can you ask for? lol Besides, the service is really professional and the waiters are well-trained in which side they should serve you from, and which side they should clear your plates from. Very attentive to our needs and prompt in providing all the cutlery. Absolutely nothing to pick on about! smile

Perk No. 2: Alfresco/indoor - take your pick!
If you love to dine with nature (it really reminds me of Botanical Gardens), go alfresco with the nature and scenery and flowers. There's a wall fountain out there which elevates the atmosphere immediately. It is really not too hot outside either due to the shade provided by the foliage. smile

If you can't bear with the heat, take a choice inside where there's air-con. During lunchtime, it could get a little crowded but if you just wait for like 5 minutes (admiring the flowers and nature, or you can take a few photos meanwhile), you can get a seat. The interior is quite bright because of the glass walls which allows natural lighting to stream in without casting direct sunlight on you.

Perk No. 3: Good food - but a little pepper overdose!
For restaurants, a pretty facade is useless without good food. But yes, Pitchstop serves absolutely beautiful food. Beef bolognese, my favourite, was done to the perfect taste. The meat was tender and chewy. The sauce and pasta was truthfully, normal, but it is difficult to be 'normal' even, many restaurants can't attain that perfect tone especially during lunch time. There was a little pepper overdose though, so it would be wise to advise the chef to go easy on pepper when ordering. There was also mushroom soup and a ice lemon tea drink to go along. I don't remember the pricing, but it was around $7-8 I think. That's extremely cheap for this sort of standard. For any special occasions and for a good restaurant to take photos of, choose Pitchstop.

What I would recommend is really the wood-fired pizzas if you guys are in the mood for them, because that's what Pitchstop's famous for. 9" for $10.50, 12" for $18.

There's also live band performances (I don't know the timing, but there's a corner for it), presumably at night.

I'll give it 5 stars for all Taste, Environment, Service, Cleanliness and Price because it is really, really that good!

Dining in Kungfu Style Smile Sep 16, 2012

Kungfu Paradise Menu

Kungfu Paradise Menu

`
My friends and I went to Kungfu Paradise for a late afternoon tea and catch-up session on Friday. smile It seemed to look like an expensive restaurant, but actually it is NOT, as compared to other JCube restaurants like Chili's, Eat at Taipei, Canton Paradise, etc.

The Food
I ordered the house specialties, Kungfu Bumger ($3.20) and Kungfu Stylo Coffee ($2.60). I really enjoyed the food here because the Kungfu Bumger was very delicious - the chicken meat was succulent and done to perfection. There is nothing I can pick on about. The Kungfu Stylo Coffee was also very refreshing, the caffeine was strong and feels very indulging. They are really not house specialties for nothing! smile

The Service
Prompt, polite, ready. My friends and I were ushered into the restaurant almost immediately, and they stood at a respectable distance from us (without making u feel pressurized), and they immediately responded whenever we have any requirements.

The Ambience
It is a really suitable place for chatting with friends because we were sitting in a booth, which gave us the sense of privacy. The noise level was low-mid, which makes it easy to talk without sounding like you're interrupting other people's meals.

The Price
Reasonably priced.

Overall
I will definitely come back again and I also recommend you to try this restaurant out if you haven't! They do know how to please customers. I really had a wonderful time and good memories of this place. smile I'm most impressed by its food and service.

It's an addiction!  Smile Aug 21, 2012

I love pepper lunch to the max!!! lol I don't see how anyone can not get addicted to this place, I'll never get sick of it! I went to pepper lunch @ suntec yesterday and ordered my 2nd favourite pepper lunch meal - salmon pepper rice (1st being chicken pepper rice<3)!

Pepper Lunch has maintained its standard (or even better) ever since the first time I tried it, which was two years ago. I always like to shuffle the rice and the bits of salmon/chicken around with a generous full sauce-plate of Honey Brown Sauce and watch it sizzle away.

I frequent this branch a lot because I always like hanging out at Suntec City, and reason why I like this branch is that it is more secluded (cos' Suntec City area is currently under construction and usually less packed.). I also like the service there because the people there are super patient and accomodating. They are also flexible - for example I wanted to be seated at one of the inner tables instead of the one I was assigned to. I didn't notice that the inner area was cordoned off because they are about to close for the day. Yet they opened the inner area for me smile /touched & kinda embarrassed for not noticing!

A big plus for my favourite restaurant.

Also the meal comes with a drink (my fav is Iced Peach Tea) and a side - usually I choose ice-cream (Choose green tea!). The portion is perfectly right and you'll feel wonderfully satisfied and not overly full. The way to end a perfect night with good friends smile

Tom's Palette is my favourite ice-cream restaurant in Singapore and I'll tell you why:

1. They have interesting flavours that they create themselves, with funky names and surprisingly almost all the 'weird' flavours taste good!

2. I love the service there. You can try all the new flavours and they will not give you the feeling of 'stress' just because you've tried too many flavours. And all the samples they give are so big and generous! <3<3

3. Cozy and homey feeling in the shop with many drawings on the table and the serviette-notice board! ;) I can stay there for hourssss.

4. Super cheap (for the quality of ice-cream). $3.20 for small, $4 for medium for 2 flavours! Sorry I forgot the price for large cup because I usually order medium / small. ++ You'll get a 10% card discount if you can produce your student card - NTU/NUS/SMU/SIM/TP/RP/SMa/NP/JDMIS/SIT).

5. There's a water dispenser in case you get thirsty from all the ice-cream! /so-thoughtful

5. It's not that inaccessible, I realized. You can either walk from Bugis (towards National Library and down Bencoolen St with Fragrance Hotel/Hotel 81 etc.) and you'll see Shaw Towers. Or you can walk from Suntec City (1st exit to the left after you get up the escalator with the digital marquee thing, across the bridge, into the blue door beside the cantonese restaurant, walk straight and turn right).

6. The quality of the ice-cream is so good, you can tastes it the moment it enters your mouth! smile

The trick to maximise your enjoyment at Tom's Palette is to find two flavours that matches (because the 2 flavours you choose will be next to each other in the same cup). The same way some people likes to eat Mac fries with vanilla ice-cream, you have to find the right combinations! (Not all flavours are available everyday.)

With so many flavours before your eyes, you're bound to feel overwhelmed, spoilt for choice & undecided (especially trying out so many flavours, you forgot the taste of the first one you tried already).

These are some combinations I love:
1. Granny's Favourite + Anything not chocolatey (Personal favourites: Yuzu / Milk)
2. Blueberry Cheesecake + Tiramisu
3. Milk + Breakfast Dessert
4. Oreo Cheesecake + Salted Caramel

Flavours I find too sweet/strong for my liking (given that I'm a sweet tooth, I think these are wayyy too sweet)
1. Summer Berries (too sweet)
2. Apple Pie (too sweet)
3. Rum & Raisin (the alcohol taste is quite strong, if you like the taste of rum, then you'll love this!)
4. Salted Egg (This tastes kind of strange, in fact it tastes like mooncakes! I find it a little weird. You might like it!)

I've been there a few times and every visit cheers me up greatly. smile

If you're an ice-cream lover and you haven't been here, you should!!! Absolutely my favourite ice-cream place in Singapore, hands down.
