Plain ol chix rice OK Mar 19, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre | Chicken Rice

Maxwell Food Centre has plenty of chicken rice stalls so you are spoilt for choice. We tried the Ah-Tai Hainanese chicken rice (1 whole chicken) plus a few other dishes. Okay, the main star of the dish, the chicken - it's not bad but not as smooth as I expect it to be. The sauce is lacking in flavour which doesn't help because such chicken are usually quite bland so a good sauce is essential to let it soak up the flavour. I'm fussy about my chicken rice, so the texture & flavour was only so-so for me. The rice is less oily than most chicken rice which is good if you want to cheat by telling yourself it is "more healthy". lol

We had veggie, bean sprout and chicken liver & gizzard. I enjoy the liver & gizzard as they add extra texture to the overall meal. The veggies and bean sprout...I'm not so fond of. Pretty much standard fare.

Secret place for coffee Smile Mar 18, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Australian / New Zealand | Café

This place is not easy to find but my friend hailed it as a good place for brunch so decided to hunt down this spot on a weekend! The decor is quite unique. Their waiting area has bale of hays for people to sit. The place has a high ceiling and a huge centre long table to sit many customers. The overall area is quite small (unless you don't mind sitting outside) so prepare to queue if you're there on the weekends.

I had the eggs royale which is Eggs Benedict over smoked salmon on brioche bread, and drizzled with hollandaise sauce. The bread is soft and delicious! Very nice as a dipping bread or a sandwich like this. The eggs was well cooked (a tiny bit on the overcooked side) but there was not enough hollandaise sauce. The bacon was a special add-on because it is coffee bacon! It has a slight hint of the smokiness of coffee beans, but after a while, the saltiness overtakes the flavor and it reverts back to the usual bacon taste. Quite good but can be improved.

Note: The affogato is really nice! Should try!

Fries let me down Cry Mar 18, 2013

This is their chicken wings which is GOOD! Hot and crispy, it's one great finger food to pair with your dish. Unfortunately, from what I tasted, the chicken wings are the only dish I like from Ewf.

This burger is not good. The fries are COLD which is disgusting. I don't understand how can a place serves cold fries. The burger wasn't much better either. Mine was the slider burger with cheese and loads of meat but I didn't enjoy it. The flavors all mesh together in one messy greasy taste.

High Tea Affair OK Mar 18, 2013

TWG is one of those safe places to go for a spot of tea in the day. The wide selection of tea will satisfy any type of tea lovers plus they have pretty good desserts to match. I tried the Fruit Valley something tea. Can't remember the exact name but as the name suggest, it's fruity and slightly tart which is good if you are eating a very sweet dessert.

We ordered this chocolate cake with ice cream. Not the best chocolate lava cake (I assume that's what it is because the middle is gooey) I've had but not horrible either. Is a just pass.

Sad Scallop Cry Mar 14, 2013
Categories : Desserts and Cakes | Brunch

Years ago, I tried Marmalade pantry and didn't like the food there. The selection was small and the food turned out really bad. Then last week, my friend and I decided to give it another chance (since it has been so many years). I ordered the Seared Scallop Linguini with tiger prawn bisque. The food is a marked improvement from my horrid first tasting, but still not fantastic. The soup tasted like slightly diluted prawn noodle broth and the seared scallop wasn't bouncy or springy like freshly seared scallop should be. Plus there was only 2 scallops. Quite a sad dish. I think the cupcakes at Marmalade Pantry are probably okay, but I won't be in a hurry to come back for the mains.
