Very Dry Burgers Cry Dec 31, 2013
Categories : American | Steaks and Grills | Burgers and Sandwiches

My sis decided to bring us out for a Christmas lunch and we ended up at Roadhouse on Dempsey Road. I've heard people talking about their burgers and so we decided to give a try.
Roadhouse Menu

Roadhouse Menu

Their menu is quite extensive, with choices for vegetarian diets, kids meals, non-beef and mains (other than burgers). They even had a breakfast menu which serves salmon and eggs.
High on Shrooms

High on Shrooms

I ordered myself the "High on Shrooms" burger ($26) which came on a nice wooden plank and fries in a can. But don't let the pretty plating deceive you, the burger itself is pretty dry.
The thick beef patty

The thick beef patty

Even though it was slathered in moist mushrooms (you can see them oozing out in the photo above), the beefy patty was not juicy at all. This was the case for all the other burgers we ordered for our table - everyone thought that the patties were just way too dry. The fries are probably the only thing I enjoyed here.

Christmas Eve Dinner With Friends Cry Dec 31, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : American | Bars/Lounges | Pasta | Steaks and Grills | Burgers and Sandwiches

Hard Rock Cafe is probably one of the oldest restaurants in this area - it's been here ever since I was a kid but I've never once tried the food before. Since it's Christmas Eve, most restaurants do not take reservations but surprisingly Hard Rock Cafe did.
Nachos

Nachos

We ordered a Nachos to share and just when I thought "how wrong can you go with nachos", the one I had here was really quite bad. The Nachos were not crisp at all and felt like it's been left out for a long time. Some bits were even too hard to bite. It was rather disappointing, really.
Legendary 10oz Burger

Legendary 10oz Burger

I also decided to try the Legendary 10oz burger. The fries were pretty good - very salty and addictive. But the burger was another letdown. The beef patty wasn't marinated very well and had quite a strong beefy taste to it. It's not the driest burger I've had, but I thought it was rather bland as it didn't come with any sauces at all.

Overall, the food wasn't great and the atmosphere of the place feels like a sleazy bar with a very bad live band. I definitely will not be re-visiting this outlet anytime soon.

Going on a Foodie Adventure! Cry Nov 30, 2013

Yellow Submarines

Yellow Submarines

I've been hearing about this place, but never gotten a chance to try it out for myself until today. The joint looks super cute from the outside, with a cute yellow submarine as the logo. The theme of the place was also very cute and fun.
Classic Beef

Classic Beef

I ordered the Classic Beef Sub ($9.90) but was quite disappointed with it. The buns looked rather unimpressive and they used thin beef slices instead of chunks of steak. The only saving grace is that it was overflowing with cheesy goodness.
Cheesy Fries

Cheesy Fries

They used the same cheese in their Torpedo Fries which were chunkier than the regular fries you get at McD. The cheese reminds me of nachos cheese and has this watery texture to it. One of those cheeses that you snack on, but does not really make for a satisfying meal.
Reciept

Reciept

Overall, while the concept of the place is fun and cheery, the food isn't fantastic.

Dry Ramen Cry Nov 30, 2013

Cozy seating

Cozy seating

This interesting Japanese restaurant at the basement of Vivo City offers an extensive range of menu items - so much so that I couldn't decide what to eat. After asking the staff what was the popular favourites there, I ended up ordering the Dry Ramen with Kurobuta Pork.

When the ramen arrived, I was quite disappointed that the Kurobuta Pork was deep-fried, and knew immediately that it won't be nice. Deep frying the pork loses its natural sweetness and flavour. It tasted more like crunchy salmon skin without any traces of Kurobuta Pork in it.

The ramen sauce was also rather unique. I expected it to be savoury, but to my surprise it came out zesty and citrusy as if they had added lemon to the sauce. Even after a few mouthfuls, I couldn't figure out this strange mixture of tastes.

I heard that the sashimi here is really fresh though. And if you're lucky, they sometimes offer a discount at the end of the day if they still have any sushi/sashimi left.

Tenzaru Chasoba  Cry Oct 28, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

I've not heard very good reviews for this place, but decided to give it a try since there are not that many Japanese joints around Toa Payoh HDB Hub.
Tempura Chasoba

Tempura Chasoba

We were seated in a nice cozy booth that accommodates 2 persons comfortably. They have a wide selection of sushi but not that many choices for noodles or rice. I decided to go for their Tenzaru Chasoba ($13.90) which consists of tempura prawns, lady's fingers, and sweet potato.
Chasoba

Chasoba

The chasoba was pretty ok - not overcooked and chewy, but I felt that the sauce was a bit too salty. I usually prefer my soba sauce to be less salty and they also didn't provide any radish to put into the tempura sauce. The tempura batter was not very good either and was quite hard, which meant that the oil wasn't hot enough when they deep-fried it. The only good thing about this restaurant is that the staff were quite attentive and re-filled my glass of iced green tea whenever I finish it.
