Awesome Japanese Lunch Smile Feb 27, 2013

Ramen Set

Ramen Set

I can never get enough of Japanese food! We ordered their lunch set promotion which comes with a choice of Ramen + Side Dish + Fried Dish. I had myself a Tonkotsu Ramen (pork) + Agedashi Tofu + Rosu (fried pork cutlet). For $26.90, it was a lot of food and probably enough for 2 persons to share.
Agedashi Tofu

Agedashi Tofu

The thing I like about Agedashi Tofu is that it's simple, light and clears your palate for the feast ahead. They served it with some red radish thingie that had a bit of kick to it.

The ramen came in a huge bowl and also had an onsen egg in it. The soup was very tasty and they also included a generous amount of vegetables in it. The Rosu I had was also rather awesome. Extremely crispy on the outside and the meat was tender inside, with a heap of cabbage on the side. It's my second visit here already but I definitely look forward to coming back here again soon!

Braised de Canard Smile Feb 27, 2013

Braised de Canard

Braised de Canard

We just finished watching a movie at Great World City and decided to have an early dinner at Poulet. While I've heard lots of good reviews about the restaurant, this is my first time eating here. I ordered myself a Braised de Canard ($15.80). It reminded me of the Duck Confit I had at Saveur (also a French bistro), but this braised duck leg was much juicier. The only thing missing was some starch (like mash potato) to complete the meal.

The taste of the braised duck leg was more on the mild side though. I also had the chance to try their signature roast chicken - Poulet Rôti ($28.80 for a whole chicken) which was A LOT better than their duck. The chicken comes in this creamy, fruity sauce which was an excellent pairing.
Lychee Panna Cotta

Lychee Panna Cotta

I was feeling adventurous that day and wanted to try out their desserts so I got myself a Soy Panna Cotta with Longan ($6.80). Having had a creamy, rich panna cotta at Saveur, the dessert here was quite a disappointment. It had exactly the same texture and taste as "Tau Huey" (beancurd) with the only exception of the Longan fruit. Not exactly the kind of dessert I was looking for to end my meal.

Lobster Fa Cai Lo Hei! Smile Feb 24, 2013

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Hotel | Dim Sum | Seafood

Every year during Chinese New Year, I'm usually the one tasked to get the Yu Sheng. What's there not to like about a sweet, sour, salty salad tossed in a heap of peanuts and other crunchy stuff? Not to mention, the sashimi that comes with it! This year, I decided to go for a more indulgent version and got myself a Lobster Yu Sheng ($89) from Marriott.

The lobster slices were not that many and once you mix all the ingredients together, you have quite a difficult time locating the lobster meat. On hindsight, we should have just tossed the salad without the lobster meat and just distributed the lobster meat individually. Anyway, the lobster was rather fresh and chewy although not as satisfying as large slices of salmon sashimi.

Beef Portobello Sandwich

Beef Portobello Sandwich

It's been a long time since I ate at Cedele, so I decided to takeaway a sandwich from the Wheelock Place outlet. After going through their rather limited selection, I ordered a Beef Onion Portobello Sandwich ($14.80). The beef patty was rather sizeable and juicy, and it came with a huge portobello mushroom sandwiched in between. I also enjoyed the balsimic onions which were had a tangy sourness to it and went really well with the savoury beef patty.
Pink Lychee Smoothie

There was also a Lunar New Year promotion for a Pink Lychee Smoothie ($6.50) and although the cup was quite small, the drink was extremely refreshing! It's like a lychee party in a cup. =] Wholesome food at its best.

After Dinner Desserts! Smile Feb 24, 2013

Almond Paste

Almond Paste

There is always space for desserts, especially Hong Kong desserts. I've tried their signature Mango Pomelo before (which by the way is really really good!) so I decided to go for my favourite Almond Paste instead today. They served it warm and the good thing is that it isn't too sweet.

We also ordered some Mango Glutinous Rice Balls to share. It's basically mango slices wrapped in glutinous rice skin and rolled in shaved coconut. A combination of sweet and sour definitely makes this dessert a refreshing treat after a good dinner! =]
