My Favourite Japanese Restaurant! Smile Aug 30, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

This is where I go to get some good old fashioned COMFORT FOOD. Sun With Moon serves up pretty awesome quality Japanese food at a rather reasonable price. I decided to order their Chirashi Don this time round. It comes with a mixture of tamago, avocado cubes, fish roe and lots of other goodies mixed into the rice, making for a delightfully flavourful (and very satisfying) lunch! =D

I've had their Tofu Cheesecake before but never did order it to dine-in at the restaurant. It is served in a "birdcage" of sorts which a pretty dramatic way to plate a dessert. The tofu makes this cheesecake silky smooth and light while at the same time, maintaining its rich cheesy flavour. Definitely a must-try for cheesecake lovers!

Latte & Dark Choc Cupcake

Latte & Dark Choc Cupcake

It's probably best that you come here for an early lunch because the lunchhour queues at Joe & Doe are quite hectic. The cafe isn't that sizeable too, so it's not easy getting a table at lunch time. I ordered a Caffe Latte and a Dark Chocolate Cupcake for tea. Just from the foam on the latte, you can tell that the barista is rather skillful. The dark chocolate cupcake was also very moist and rich - definitely a must-try if you're a chocolate fanatic like me! =D

Unsatisfying Dim Sum Lunch Cry Aug 29, 2013

dim sum

Dim Sum is one of those comfort foods that I really enjoy eating, but sadly my experience at Old Hong Kong Legend wasn't a very good one. The only interesting dish that was good is this deep-fried prawn ball which had a nice springy texture to it. The meat they used in the Char Siew Pau is not the high quality char siew you would expect to find at a Chinese restaurant, but tasted more like those you get for $1 at a kopitiam. Overall, the food wasn't that great and I don't think I would return again after this visit.

Overrated and Snobbish Service Cry Aug 29, 2013

Categories : Italian | Pasta | Seafood

The queues at Jamie's Italian are not as long as the ones you find at Tim Ho Wan, but the food here isn't that awesome either. First up, I ordered a Brixham Bay Crab Risotto ($19) - a creamy dish with a generous amount of crab meat. Sadly, it had a rather strong 'fishy' taste to it probably because the crab meat wasn't that fresh? The Polenta Chips ($7.50) were quite good though, deep-fried to a crisp and seasoned with rosemary and parmesan cheese. To end off the meal, I also ordered the Panna Cotta ($9) which came with a berry mixture of raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. Overall, the food does not live up to its hype and the service staff did not seem very friendly nor were they helpful.

Breakfast for Lunch, again Smile Aug 29, 2013

Rosti Breakfast

Rosti Breakfast

The Rosti ($15.90) here is very different from the ones you get at Marche - and it feels like a much healthier version of the crispy, buttery ones you get at Marche. Here, you will find thinly sliced potatoes (with the skin still intact) pan fried lightly and stacked on top of one another to form a "potato pancake".

Well, the scrambled eggs didn't taste that "healthy" though - it was soaked in butter, which made it taste superb but I can just imagine all those extra calories I'm putting on. >.<"
Dark Chocolate Milkshake

Dark Chocolate Milkshake

The Dark Chocolate Milkshake ($7.80) was thick and creamy but I could not really taste the 'dark chocolate' bit of it. It's more milky rather than rich, but is an awesome 'comfort drink' that would lighten up your mood any time of the day!
