Christmas Eve Dinner With Friends Cry Dec 31, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : American | Bars/Lounges | Pasta | Steaks and Grills | Burgers and Sandwiches

Hard Rock Cafe is probably one of the oldest restaurants in this area - it's been here ever since I was a kid but I've never once tried the food before. Since it's Christmas Eve, most restaurants do not take reservations but surprisingly Hard Rock Cafe did.
Nachos

Nachos

We ordered a Nachos to share and just when I thought "how wrong can you go with nachos", the one I had here was really quite bad. The Nachos were not crisp at all and felt like it's been left out for a long time. Some bits were even too hard to bite. It was rather disappointing, really.
Legendary 10oz Burger

Legendary 10oz Burger

I also decided to try the Legendary 10oz burger. The fries were pretty good - very salty and addictive. But the burger was another letdown. The beef patty wasn't marinated very well and had quite a strong beefy taste to it. It's not the driest burger I've had, but I thought it was rather bland as it didn't come with any sauces at all.

Overall, the food wasn't great and the atmosphere of the place feels like a sleazy bar with a very bad live band. I definitely will not be re-visiting this outlet anytime soon.

I've passed by this restaurant many times before, heard my friends rave about it, but this is actually my first time trying the food here. The place was rather lively on Christmas Eve, filled with lots of office people making merry with their colleagues.

Check out their Christmas-y menu decked out with reindeers, X'mas trees and all things merry.
Risotto with White Truffle Oil

Risotto with White Truffle Oil

I decided to order the Risotto with Pancetta & White Truffle Oil ($17.50). Risotto is one of my favourite Italian dishes and the portion here was just right.

Risotto with White Truffle Oil

A spoonful of risotto with french beans, chunks of pancetta (Italian pork belly bacon), mushrooms and parmesan cheese! The flavour of the white truffle oil is definitely quite pronounced.
Mussel Pot

Mussel Pot

We also shared a serving of their signature Mussel Pot, soaked in white wine and cooked just right. Mussels are pretty delicate, so it was a delight to find that the mussels here were cooked really skillfully. If you're heading down to Ambush, their Mussel Pot is definitely something you MUST try! lol

Another Dim Sum Feast! Smile Nov 30, 2013

Steamed Glutinous Rice

Steamed Glutinous Rice

My friends asked me out for another dim sum feast and we decided to go to Royal China at Raffles Hotel. This is my second visit here and I got to try the Lor Mai Gai 糯米鸡 (Steamed Glutinous Rice $4.80) this time round. From the moment the basket was opened, a whiff of the lotus leaf filled the air and I couldn't help myself from peeling into it right away. The rice was moist and piping hot, very flavourful and satisfying. It's also filled up quite generously with meat, but I would advise you to share this portion with someone else if you intend to try out the other dim sum the restaurant has because the rice can be quite filling.

Eggy Rice Bowl OK Nov 30, 2013

Eggy Bowl

Eggy Bowl

The Eggy Rice Bowl is one of the better dishes that I enjoy eating at Asian Kitchen. Chock full of minced meat in a salty sauce over a bowl of rice and an egg on the side. Make sure you mix in the meat sauce with the white rice thoroughly before eating it to fully enjoy this dish.

Duck Spring Roll

Duck Spring Roll

Since it was a special lunch set, we also got to pick one side dish each. I chose the Kang Kong while my colleagues picked the Tofu and Crispy Duck Spring Roll. Overall, the food here is pretty average but quite good value for money if you run out of other options to eat at ION.

Going on a Foodie Adventure! Cry Nov 30, 2013

Yellow Submarines

Yellow Submarines

I've been hearing about this place, but never gotten a chance to try it out for myself until today. The joint looks super cute from the outside, with a cute yellow submarine as the logo. The theme of the place was also very cute and fun.
Classic Beef

Classic Beef

I ordered the Classic Beef Sub ($9.90) but was quite disappointed with it. The buns looked rather unimpressive and they used thin beef slices instead of chunks of steak. The only saving grace is that it was overflowing with cheesy goodness.
Cheesy Fries

Cheesy Fries

They used the same cheese in their Torpedo Fries which were chunkier than the regular fries you get at McD. The cheese reminds me of nachos cheese and has this watery texture to it. One of those cheeses that you snack on, but does not really make for a satisfying meal.
Reciept

Reciept

Overall, while the concept of the place is fun and cheery, the food isn't fantastic.
