Lunch and chilling out at Ya Kun Smile Apr 06, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop

Was at Ya Kun to have a light lunch and also to chill out.

Saw this very meaningful and insightful plaque hanging on their wall.

Ordered a single egg. It tasted nice and delicious, as usual. The egg yolk is full and not broken while the egg white is semi coagulated.

Ordered kaya toast bread, 2 pieces only as we were still quite full and wanted something light for our lunch. Tasted delicious too but a bit too dry.

Also had a cup of hot coffee, which was in Set A and it comes together with 2 eggs and 2 pieces of kaya toast. Set A cost $4.50.

Orderd ice coffee. I like it too as the coffee was thick, aromatic and shiok. Cost $2.20 only.

Total cost of our light lunch and chilling out session was only $6.70 (which is equivalent to the cost of a small cup of coffee at Starbucks/Coffeebean. I felt eating at Ya Kun is more worthwhile as I get 1 x ice coffee + 1 x hot coffee + 2 eggs + 2 kaya toast bread.

Cheese Chicken Katsu Curry Smile Mar 28, 2013

For my lunch, I ordered the Cheese Chicken Katsu Curry. As for the spiciness level, I ordered the maximum level of spiciness, which is 5 star. This was also reflected in my dish, from the 5 orange colour twirls that you can see on the curry sauce. I presume they are the chilli sauce and for a chilli lover like me, I felt it's quite spicy but I like and am able to take the spiciness.

My meal cost $16.45 in total, inclusive of GST and service charge. I felt it's quite worthwhile as the chicken katsu serving portion was quite huge and the cheese serving was generous. The curry also tasted great! smile

US Harris Ranch Ribeye Steak Smile Mar 26, 2013

As i have a craving for steak, I decided to drop by Jack's Place and ordered US Harris Ranch Ribeye Steak, which was cooked medium rare.

To start off, the restaurant have a nice and soothing ambiance where classical music played in the background while the entire restaurant is decked out with a retro bar with restaurant setting. Bottles of wines are displayed at the bar, available for customers to order to accompany their meal.

My steak didn't take long for it to be served. It came with a garlic bread, potato and strips of carrot, cucumber and long bean. The serving portion of my steak was quite huge. Although I ordered medium rare, I felt it was slightly over-cooked and it was cooked more towards medium rather than medium rare. Although I was a little disappointed, but the tasty and juicy steak more than make up for it. With each bite, you can get to taste the tasty marinated juice oozing out of the steak. However I would have preferred it to be medium rare so that more juice can ooze out when I bite into it. The steak can be cooked in either mushroom sauce or black pepper. As I prefer black pepper more, hence I chose that and I am glad I did not regret my choice. The steak turned out well when cooked with black pepper.

The US Harris Ranch Ribeye Steak cost $35.80. After the 7% GST and 10% service charge, the total meal cost amounts to $42. I quite like the steak and the way it was cooked but for a cost of $42, I would expect much more from my meal such as perhaps a thicker slice of ribeye steak. Mine was quite thin. Or perhaps it would be even better if they can include a soup of the day into my meal, like what other restaurants are doing for a steak meal that cost above $40.

Mocha Spin Smile Mar 14, 2013

Categories : American

This is one of my all-time favourite coffee drink, as compared to "The Ultimate" from Coffeebean or "Dark Mocha" from Starbucks. Reason being the coffee taste is strong and aromatic and the caffeine level is sufficient to keep anyone awake for quite a long time.

The "large" size mocha spin costs me $6.70. When I purchased today, there's a 1-for-1 promotion offered by Standard Chartered Manhattans credit card where you get the 2nd cup free and you only need to pay for the higher value item.

Dinner Smile Mar 11, 2013

As I have a craving to eat at Crystal Jade, went to dine by myself at their Jurong Point outlet and ordered their double boiled chicken soup ($8.80) and Spicy dumplings ($6.90). The double boiled chicken soup was very tasty and I simply love the soup and tender chicken meat. The soup taste so smooth and delicious and I would recommend this herbal tasting dish to any chicken soup lover.

I also ordered my all-time favourite spicy dumpling, where they steamed the dumplings before immersing it in a plate of spicy chilli oil. This dish comes with 8 dumplings and each dumpling was huge. I simply love the way they blend the spicy chilli oil together with the dumpling. Not forgetting the spicy chilli oil is also nice enough for me to pour onto my bowl of rice.

My total meal cost around $18.30 and it was certainly valued for money and delicious.
