Jian Bo Shui Kueh Smile Jul 31, 2013

Our next food hunting in Tiong Bahru brings us to try this stall’s Chwee Kueh that I’ve heard so much about as I stay in the East area, so rarely come down to TB to try food.

White steamed rice cakes were bouncy, mellow tasting, and a subtle aroma is tempting. Topped with Chaipoh (pickled radish) and chilli which was spread evenly on all 4 pieces , the taste combined as you take a bite is a beautiful combination of “plain” and “savoury”.
My only issue with it is it’s a little more on the oily side, but I would definitely buy back again if I’m in the area and will remember to ask for less oil (press dry)

Tiong Bahru Hainanese Curry Rice Smile Jul 31, 2013

Tiong Bahru Market has many hidden gems of food. While doing my food hunting in this perimeter, I came across this stall that catches my eye and nose as well as I’m quite a fan of Hainanese Food.

Uncle was friendly when I ordered 1 Fish, 1 Porkchop, and 1 Vegetable.

Braised cabbage was kind of cooked beyond to the point of mushiness, as some people may like it, it doesn’t work well for me.
Well fried golden Batang fish was left a while on the tray but still warm and delectable and crispy on the edges. Lightly flavoured with light sauce and doesn’t smell fishy at all. Crispy pork chop was well cooked , brown and not burnt on the outside and moist and tender on the inside.

Everything on the plate topped with a generous coating of savoury and flavourful curry gravy. Overall it was delicious and would definitely return.

Marina South Curry Delight Smile Jul 31, 2013

Was food hunting in the Tiong Bahru area, and came across this long queue and I checked on OpenRice to see that it was highly rated so decided to try.

I ordered the Curry Chicken Rice, it took 10 minutes before it was my turn.

Surprisingly I saw very little traces of oil in the curry! Almost looks like japanese curry but a brighter vibrant colour with a sense of familiarity because it’s a local delight. The gravy is very thick , rich, and the mild spiciness is perfectly within my comfort range. It almost tastes good on its own together with the rice. “Drowned” in the curry were the soft flavourful potatoes which you could just pop in your mouth and turn it into curry mash potatoes with your gums. The chicken is so tender that it easily separates from the bone due to prolonged periods of curry “spa”.

Easily one of the best curry chicken I’ve eaten.

With nice ambiance and amazing scenery we often Prive Café for gatherings.
Their drinks with bar food never fails us.
Cajun Wedges $10, Cajun seasoned potato wedges makes a tasty flavorsome snack, crisp and spicy on the outside and tender on the inside.
Buttermilk Fried Chicken Wings $14, brown crispy chicken wings were delectable and moist. Dipped wings in their flavorful spicy chipotle mayonnaise, and this would be one of the best fried chicken I've eaten.
The Ultimate Fish and chips $22, Golden crisp beer battered dory fish were succulent and not oily.
Both the fish and the fries goes well with the zesty tartare sauce and acidic malt vinegar. Served with fresh crunchy salad.

Went Demspey Hill looking for PS café wasn't an easy job at night, I got lost and make a few turn.
Ordered a PS Steak Sandwich, Succulent perfectly grilled sirloin steak was tender and glazed with flavorful teriyaki sauce.
Crispy toasted sourdough, crunchy lettuce, aromatic onions and toasted sesame seeds paired off beautifully forming this wonderful sandwich dish.
Hot and Crispy fries sprinkle with mellow tasting seaweed, simple and delicious.
