Salmon Don OK Jun 13, 2013

Categories : Japanese

I was looking to enjoy a good bowl of fresh sashimi and rice, hence, I ordered the salmon don which costs $10.90. The presentation is really pretty with the fresh and bright coloured sashimi slices on top of the rice. While I enjoyed my bowl of salmon don, the proportion is quite skewed. There is far too much rice and too little salmon sashimi. There is only one layer of salmon sashimi slice hence, I guess there is only around 8 slices of fish. I felt that the slices could be thicker as well for more bite. Hence, this will rate well on taste, but not on price since it is expensive for the small portion of fish.

Spending per head: Approximately $12

economical rice  OK Jun 13, 2013

For my dinner, I ordered a takeaway from the economical rice stall as the food looked quite tasty. I ordered the egg tofu, chicken and the brinjal. The brinjal is normally not my choice of vegetable to order, but I was tempted glossy brinjal and by the chilli which was used to cooked it. I must say the brinjal tasted really good, it was smooth and tasty with the chilli. However, I guess a large amount of oil was used to cook it as it felt quite greasy when I bite into it. The chicken meat was quite hidden from the photo and I guess it is because of the small portion given as well because I counted less than 7 small pieces of chicken meat in total. The egg tofu is normal, I had better ones from other stalls. Overall, it is just another ordinary economical rice stall.

yong tau fu  OK May 24, 2013

I wanted to eat yong tau fu so I decided to order that for my lunch. Koo Kee yong tau fu is quite famous as it has quite a few branches in the food courts in Singapore. The yong tau fu is fixed, or you can also choose which ever ingredients that you like. I ordered a takeaway, so I had the soup and ingredients in one bowl while the noodle is in a box. I love the noodles as it is very eggy and it is quite qq. There is also minced meat added to the noodles. I think this is their specialty, because other stalls don’t add the minced meat. The yong tau fu is quite alright, it is actually quite standard, but it is a definite safe choice of lunch to have if you are not an adventurous eater.

pork ribs rice OK May 21, 2013

I ordered a takeaway of pork ribs rice back to the work place as it is too hot to eat in the food centre. The waiting time is around 10 minutes. The rice is just as it is, without too much of gravy from the pork ribs, so if you like having rice with gravy, it will be good to inform the kitchen about it. There are around 4-5 pieces of meat and the meat is very nicely flavoured with the sauce which is slightly sweet and salty. There are no bones, so it is easy to eat it as well. The portion of rice is quite a lot relative to the meat. I think it would be better if they add some cucumbers for some greens in the dish.

lunch OK May 18, 2013

It is very rare for me to order fish dishes outside because it can cost quite a bit, but I haven't had stingray for a long time, so when I saw it, I just had to order it. Moreover, the stingray is cooked with assam sauce which is my favourite. The stingray is quite fresh tasting and the meat is not too tough to bite. It is really very appetising with the sauce, though I felt it could be more sour for a more tangy taste. The steamed egg with meat is also delicious as the egg custard is very smooth and it has enough taste. Last is the sweet sour pork which is alright though some pieces can be quite tough to bite. This plate costs me $4.50.
