Grilled chicken salad  OK Nov 26, 2014
Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Café | Pasta | Burgers and Sandwiches | Brunch

Over the weekend, I had brunch at Group Therapy Café. Being a weekend, there is quite a crowd and we had to wait around 20minutes for a table. As I had breakfast before going for brunch, I decided on something simple, the grilled chicken salad $16.
From the picture, it seems like it is not really a salad because the portion of meat to greens is almost like 3:1. I requested for my honey mustard dressing to be on the side so that I can easily control the amount of dressing over my salad. The chicken salad is made using chicken thigh – as such, the chicken meat is very tender. The seasoning used to marinate the chicken is slightly on the heavy side as I felt that the chicken is quite salty. Hence, it is fortunate that I had separated the dressing from the salad as I could control the amount. The salad also comes with cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and assorted greens. Overall, I think the dish would be better if they cut back on the seasoning used for the chicken.

dim sum dinner OK Nov 26, 2014

Walking around Plaza Singapura, my dining companion and I eventually ended up in Crystal Jade. I think they recently had a change in concept for this store as there is now steamboat available. In fact, there are quite a number of patrons there for the steamboat buffet as we saw lots of people with the pot. Nonetheless, we wanted something simple, so we just ordered dim sums for our dinner. There is a small range of dim sums available, and we stuck with the usual items like siew mai and har gow and chee cheong fun etc. The har gow is my favourite as the prawns are bouncy and crunchy and the skin is not too thick. I would think it is preferable for three to enjoy since the dim sums come in a basket of 3 each. We also ordered one non dim sum item, the vegetables for some greens. Overall, 5 dim sum dishes and one vegetable works out to around $40 for two which is quite alight. Also, do note that water is chargeable at 30cents each.

Sashimi salad OK Nov 26, 2014

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi | Kids-Friendly

The other day, I had dinner at Sushi Tei Raffles City. I arrived at around 7pm and there is a queue forming. I waited for around 20minutes for a table for two (it would be a 10minutes wait if we had gotten the counter seats. However, I had actually preferred the counter seats as the table seats for two are actually very cramped and the other table is just half an arm’s length away which is slightly too close for comfort.
Anyway, I always liked to order the sashimi salad at Sushi Tei. The sashimi salad is diced in chunks and there are salmon, tako, tuna and squid. However, I felt that the sashimi is not as fresh as the previous times I was there, so it is a slight disappointment. There are three different sauces to go with the sashimi salad as well. I have only tried the Wafu dressing and Sushi Tei dressing and both are good. The Sushi Tei dressing is thicker though, so if you prefer a lighter dressing, the Wafu is quite a good choice.

cheese sausage bread OK Nov 26, 2014
Categories : Bakery

During evening time, at around 7pm, the breads from Bakery Point will normally be sold at a promotional price of $1 each. Taking advantage of the offer, I decided to buy a bread back for breakfast the next day. I got this cheesy sausage bun at $1.
The bread is quite fluffy which I like as dense breads can sometimes get too cloying or heavy after eating too much of it. The cheese on top of the bread is also sufficient to give the bread a saltish cheesy taste. The sausage used was not too nice though, I find it too tough to bite. Otherwise, it is quite a nice bread to have.

lunch  OK Nov 26, 2014
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi

It is very crowded over at Ichiban Boshi, so we adjourned to Standing Sushi Bar which is less crowded. I wasn’t feeling too much in the mood for ordering a set meal, so I chose to get a plate of salmon sashimi and two temakis – salmon and tuna.
The salmon sashimi is rather thick and fresh. There is no fishy taste to it so I finished it up in a jiffy. That said, it is more worth it to enjoy salmon sashimi during their weekday dinner promo as it cost only $3 for 5 slices. I think it is Monday, but do check the website to confirm. The temakis are a bit of a disappointment as the seaweed is already soft and it is hard to bite it apart. The good thing is that the rice is not too much, and I would say the balance of rice to fish is well achieved. Some temakis had lots of rice which makes eating it bland towards the end. Overall, it is quite a good lunch, though I will probably come back for dinner next time to tap on the promotions.
