Tsukumen OK Jan 30, 2014

Categories : Japanese | Ramen

When an outlet opened at Westgate, I decided to try it out since I have heard quite good reviews about it and I am eager to taste it for myself if it is really that good. I decide to try the more uncommon ramen, the Tsukumen or dipping ramen. There are three different soups, I chose the red which is the spicy soup. The noodles at Menya Musashi are very thick, almost like udon noodles. Personally, I dislike thick noodles so I would have liked it if they had different noodle variants for customers to choose from. That said, as the soup or dipping sauce is thick and flavourful, it is complementary to the thick noodles as the flavour and taste is just right when I dip some of the strands into the dip. If you want a stronger taste, you can dip the entire strand of noodles into the dip. The red sauce is actually not spicy in my opinion, though it is flavourful and tasty. However, it is quite disappointing since I am a fan of spicy food and I was expecting it to be spicy since there are two other soups which are non-spicy. In all, I found Menya Musashi is not really my kind of ramen place because of the thick noodles. Also, I felt a little let down by the red soup. I will probably try out other ramen places next time.

yummy egg rice Smile Jan 29, 2014

I happened to chance by this restaurant and saw a huge signboard advertising this as the no.1 gyoza specialist in Japan. I was attracted by the signboard and decide to have my lunch with my colleagues there. I ordered the Fuwatoro Chicken Tenshin Han and gyoza set, which comes with 6 pieces of gyoza. The dish looks like a very large egg dome as seen. The taste however, is really great. The egg is very fluffy and moist and airy and it is really flavourful. The rice hidden inside the egg is also tasty as the broth is quite rich and the rice had soaked up the flavours of the broth easily. The egg is really the star as it is just so tasty, unknowingly, I ate everything up in no time. It is actually very filling as there is a lot of rice, and I left some of the rice untouched because I still had the gyoza. To me, I felt the gyoza was just normal though. If I were to come back, it would definitely be for the fluffy egg rice!

Lady M ! Smile Jan 22, 2014

It is all the rage when Lady M opened in Singapore as it is their first overseas store. I didn't manage to visit the store at Marina Square and I made it a point to visit their second outlet at Fullerton last week when I happened to be at the area. This outlet's ambience is very good if you manage to the the seats near the window like I did. The furniture is spick and span as well and white furniture gives a feeling of class. Anyway, I just had to try their signature, the mille crepe in original flavour. This cake is made up of layers and layers of paper-thin handmade crêpes with light pastry cream in between layer. I felt very light while typing this as it is really a very painstakenly put together cake with all the layers. The taste did not disappoint. The cake is very light and just sweet enough and it is really a delight. It did not feel too heavy even with cream on each layer. It is one of the better cakes that I have ever had. I believe this is a good place to catch with with your girlfriends while enjoying the lovely cakes!

Strawberry Shortcake  OK Jan 22, 2014

It was my friend's birthday and we decided to get her a cake from Rive Gauche Patisserie since she had mentioned that she fancies their cakes. We got her the Strawberry Shortcake since she is a fan of strawberries. The cake costs $28. This is the smallest serving size which is just right for us since we had 6 people in total. The strawberry shortcake is quite a creamy cake as the outer layer of the cake is made of cream and in between each strawberry is blops of fresh cream. The cake itself is vanilla sponge cake. There are two layers of vanilla sponge cake, separated by layers of cream. The layers of cream in between the cake also has sliced strawberries. I would say the cake is rather nice if you enjoy a creamy cake. The vanilla sponge is more dry than spongy which is quite a pity to me since I preferred a cake with a moist texture. The cream is very light and it doesn't feel too heavy or indulgent, so one can definitely finish the cake without any problem. Even though it is quite alright, but I didn't feel as though it is exceptionally good. That said, I will like to try their signature chocolate cake next time.

Noodles OK Jan 22, 2014

Categories : Food Court | Noodles

I had my dinner at HDB Hub with my parents. We had originally wanted to have dim sum at Tim Ho Wan, but the queue was simply too long so we gave up and settled for hawker food instead. I chose to have noodles since it is already dinner time and I wanted something that is less filling. I ordered from this noodles stall as it had quite a few different types of noodles like mini wok as well. I ordered the fried dumpling noodles for $4. The fried dumplings are quite fresh as it is still warm when I ate it and the dumpling skin is really crispy. The filling is also a little moist and the dumpling filling is adequately seasoned. I could just enjoy the taste of the dumpling on its own without having to dip it in the sauce. The noodles are alright. I mixed it up with some cut chilli as I enjoy spicy food and I find that it helps to spice up the otherwise normal noodles.
