Sheng Mian Smile Jan 18, 2014

The hawker centre is quite empty at night at around 8pm when I went and there isn't much choices of food left. I decided to order from the zi char stall as the food will be served hot. I ordered a plate of crispy noodle at $4. The waiting time is quite fast since it is really over the peak dinner hours. The sheng mian comes with slices of fishcake, lean meat, two prawns and vegetables. The noodles are very tasty with the gravy as there is still a slight crispiness when I bite into the noodles although I have softened it by mixing with the gravy. The gravy is not too salty or thick and I did not feel very thirsty after eating. In addition, the prawns are also fresh and for the price, I thought the ingredients given are ample. I will definitely patronise them again.

Mini and delicious paus Smile Jul 24, 2013

There is always a long queue at this pau stall whenever I go during weekends. Although the queue is long, the queue moves pretty fast as well so I ended up only waiting for around 10 minutes before I got my order taken. There are quite a lot of varieties of paus. I got the coffee pau, normal tau sa pau and char siew paus. I love the coffee pau most. The coffee taste is not too strong but yet distinct enough to fully appreciate the flavour of the coffee. In addition, the pau is very worth it because the pau skin is thin and the filling inside is quite a lot. I could even have some left over filling to spread on my bread! Overall, it is definitely worth your time queuing. The paus are priced at 60 cents onwards.

Wonder bun! Smile Jul 12, 2013

I happened to pass by this stall and again got enticed into buying from the nice smell. I got a box of 6 buns and since my dad loves peanut butter, I got peanut butter again as well as chocolate with almond flakes for myself as well as oreo, blueberry, cream cheese and original. I ate the chocolate with almond flakes. I love the taste of the chocolate with cinnamon. I don't really know how to describe the taste besides saying it is such a good match! The chocolate is sweet while the cinnamon is savoury. The almond flakes add a little crunch to the whole bun as well. I would say this will be my favourite flavour to date! Each bun costs $1.50, if you go during the time when the shop is about to close, sometimes, they will price it slightly cheaper.

Tender and tasty duck Smile Jul 12, 2013

I have heard my friends raving about the duck rice from this stall and finally got down to trying it a few days ago. We tried to avoid the queues by going earlier at around 11:45 pm and luckily the queue is still very short. We ordered the duck rice and also added an egg to the rice. I love the duck meat a lot. It is really tender and it is nicely marinated with the braised sauce and a perfect match with the chilli that they provide. I thought the chilli also went very well with the plain white rice. We got the gravy to be packed separately and it is a must to add the delicious and fragrant gravy to your rice. If you are not concerned about the fats, eating the duck meat with its skin is even more "shiok" as the fats further tenderise the meat. I can understand the long queues at this stall now!

Rojak Smile Jul 11, 2013
Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Coffeeshop

As we could do with a little more food in our tummies, we decided to order the rojak to share amongst ourselves. We ordered the $2.50 portion which comes with the usual ingredients like the cucumber, tau pok, you tiao, pineapple etc. The rojak is best enjoyed on the spot because the ingredients like tau pok and youtiao will remain crispy since the auntie will retoast it in the toaster to ensure the crispiness. I asked for a little chilli to be added to the rojak which made it a little spicy and more appetising. The rojak sauce is also not too saltish unlike some other rojaks that I have tried before, so this is a plus point for me.
