charcoal red bean pancake Smile May 04, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean | Stall / Kiosk

I was feeling slightly hungry and decided to get a pancake from Jollibean to last me until dinner time. I bought the charcoal azuki red bean pancake which costs $1.20. The pancake is quite soft and the red bean filling is really delicious as I could still enjoy the texture of the azuki beans since it is not processed until smooth. In addition, the filling is of the right sweetness level, it is not too overly sweet nor bland. It is a good match for the pancake which is bland by itself.

chocolate egglet  Smile May 04, 2013

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong

So far I have only eaten this once, so I was quite eager to try out other flavours as I enjoyed it the first time I bought it. The chocolate egglet is a popular choice, so I I decided to try it as well. It costs $2.50. They will also sprinkle some chocolate chips into the batter. I felt this is a very nice touch as this chocolate chips add a burst of chocolate flavour when you bite into each egglet shell. The taste isn't very sweet as well so you will not get sick after a few bites. It is really addictive and delicious and I finished the whole packet in no time. It is worth the 10 minutes waiting time.

sushi tei lunch Smile May 04, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi | Kids-Friendly

Recently, I went to Sushi Tei for my lunch. I was with a friend and we ordered our own dishes plus a dessert to share. I got the dai dai roll (which I think costs $12) for myself. It is sushi wrapped with mango and crabstick and there is also a salmon sashimi on top of the roll, and topped with flying roe. The sauce on top of the roll is wasabi mayonnaise and thousand island sauce. Eaten as a whole roll, it is very delicious. The flavours all complemented each other very well. I especially like the slight sweetness from the mango. Normally I will top it with more wasabi on the table top for an extra kick. The dessert we shared is the chocolate nama ice cream ($4.50). It comes in a roll form and it is really divine. A plate of 5 pieces to share is simply not enough!

delectable kuehs Smile May 04, 2013

Categories : Peranakan / Nonya | Bakery | Halal

There a lots of different kuehs from sweet to savoury in this shop, so you will definitely find something that you like here. I was quite spolit for choices and I got a variety of sweet and savoury kuehs as takeway. I loved eating the 9 layer cake since young, so I had to get it. There are two types, one is the nonya which is a brighter colour and the other is the normal one as pictured. I think the difference is the amount of coconut milk used. The one pictured probably has less coconut milk, and this is the one that I enjoy more. You can eat it as a whole or peel it off layer by layer to enjoy it. I also got the savoury kuehs like peng kueh and soon kueh back home. My family loved the savoury kuehs a lot as we finished it with no second helping!

glutinous rice cakes  Smile May 02, 2013

It has been quite some time since I bought these glutinous rice cakes from Crystal Jade. The prices have increased since the last time I bought. Now, each of these pancake costs $1.10. I bought a total of thress of these pancakes, one green tea with custard, one pumpkin and one black sesame. Of the three panckes, my favourite is the green tea pancake as the custard filling within the pancake is not too sweet and the taste goes very well with the chewy pancake. The pumpkin pancake is also quite nice, there are also some bits of pumpkin within the pumpkin filling. You will have to try it to see which one you like better!
