Gong bao chicken rice OK Dec 03, 2014
Categories : Food Court | Brunch

I was walking around the food court to decide on what to have. This stall caught my eye as the meals come with egg and meat which I thought was quite comprehensive. I ordered a plate of gongbao chicken rice. The rice costs $5 if I remember correctly. The egg is fried and the yolk is still slightly runny which I love because it can be used to coat on the white rice. The chicken is just so-so in my opinion and on closer look, actually there is very little chicken meat. Much of it is actually the stir fried onions so that is a bit of a disappointment. Otherwise, it is quite alright.

It was a casual meet up hence we went to basement of The Central for our dinner. We settled on this Japanese eatery as the menu looks rather good. The prices are also much friendlier on the wallet as compared to the restaurants at the other levels. The menu is quite comprehensive and we took a while to order. I finally decided on a mixed set of salmon and pork. I think this costs only $7. Sorry for the slanted image as I hurriedly took the photo from the opposite side as I went to fetch other friend. The set also comes with soup and a small cabbage salad. The salmon is nice as the flesh is rather soft and flaky. The pork is more on the salty side, but when paired with the rice, it is still ok. While the food is not very nice, but it is still acceptable and the price is also reasonable. It is definitely a good place to have a filling and nice Japanese meal!

yummy sweet sour pork OK Dec 03, 2014

My mum did not cook hence I ordered a mixed vegetables rice as a takeaway for my dinner. I ordered a pan fried egg, egg tofu with black fungus and sweet spicy pork which comes in pork chop style instead of the usual cube like style. The sweet spicy pork is my faovurite because it is mostly lean meat and the sauce coated on the pork had a good balance of sweet and savoury taste. I will definitely order this next time if I am there. The rest of the ingredients that I order are quite average and on par with other mixed rice stalls. The portion is quite large too, I didn’t manage to finish my rice.

Crispy chicken cutlet rice OK Dec 03, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Coffeeshop

We are walking around the basement of The Central during lunch time. Everywhere was quite packed and we decided to just have our lunch at Kopi Roti since a table was vacated just as we are walking towards that direction. The menu is rather simple and I just ordered the crispy cutlet chicken rice which comes with baked beans and a side cabbage mayo salad. The presentation of the dish looks quite good but like the previous reviewer mentioned, the portion of chicken meat is very little. Much of the chicken culet was the fried batter and not the chicken meat. The cabbage was also doused with too much mayo which makes it rather jialat instead of refreshing. The saving grace is the rice as I think its quite fragrant and soft.

Nasi lemak OK Dec 03, 2014
Categories : Hawker Centre | Noodles

Feeling hungrier than usual, I decided to order nasi lemak for my lunch. There are default sets but I preferred choosing my own ingredients. Hence, I ordered a fried egg, chicken wing and Chinese sausage. Being a huge fan of chili, I also piled on a generous serving of their chili to mix together with the rice. The rice has a slight fragrance as it is slightly coconutty. Together with the chili, it is really delicious. The chili is not very spicy, but it is savoury and it is a good complement to the rice. The chicken wings are also bursting with flavor as the chicken meat is moist and flavourful. The only thing I didn’t quite like about my meal is the sausage as it is too salty.
