I am always a big fan of gyoza so imagine my joy when I discovered this newly opened osaka handmade gyoza stall in Raffles City! It was new years eve and the whole place was packed with many diners. I was first attracted by its reasonable price and the lure of a plate of gyoza that goes with every set meal.

I had the ramen set ($11.90) that comes with 6 gyozas! The Japanese couple who were sitting beside us also ordered the same set. I like how big the portion was- initially I was wary of the portion since the bowl of ramen came with half a braised egg and 2 big juicy pieces of meat. The noodles were extremely springy- just what I like and I could hear the Japanese slurping happily too! The vingear goes perfectly with the gyozas as there was a tinge of sourness that complemented the meat stuffing. I aooreciated how the gyoza was pan fried to a nice golden brown colour and the skin was not too thicksmile Definitely worth the money!

My boyfriend had ordered the crispy chicken stew set ($13.90) that came with 2 pieces of gyoza. The stew came with a generous serving of stir fried onions and chicken chunks. The chicken was juicy and tender too.

In terms of service, despite the huge crowd, the service was very efficient. Food was promptly served and kudos to the waiters who answered to our enquires when we clarified with them with regards to the menu. They were also fast to provide us with additional napkins and the refill of the hot green tea when we prompted them to do so. I will definitely go back there another time with my friends- for the excellent affordable Japanese food as well as the notable service! Cheers!lollol

Having just came back from Korea on a holiday, I had been craving for authentic korean food and I was glad to have Auntie Kim's restaurant to satisfy my cravings.

All this intricate side dishes were complimentary. Initially we were unsure if we would be asked to pay extra (just like the peanuts in many chinese restaurants) and were glad to find out that all these were complimentary and we could even asked for a refill in 3 of the side dishes. I absolutely love these side dishes!

This is korean dumplings with rice cakes ($15). There were 4 huge dumplings and I love how the skin of the dumplings was chewy and not too thick. The stuffing was a tad spicy but all in all it complemented very well with the rice cakes and the clear soup.

The serving of the pork bulgogi ($14.50) was really huge and can be easily shared among a few people. The pork was tender and cooked just nice.

This is milky beef bones with noodles($16) which has a very nice aftertaste and I really think it is a great dish to eat in a rainy day!!

This is my favourite dish among the rest!!! This is the dish ($15) which one can often see the lead actresses slurping hungrily when they called for a take-out! I love the chewy texture of the handmade noodles and especially the nice flavour of the onions and meat (made with special sauce). I think I can easily finish a bowl for myself!

Given the huge serving, I would recommend to share- ordering just a few main dishes (1 or 2 depending on the number of people) and complementing it with rice since there are quite a no of side dishes (since it can be a tad expensive compared to other korean restaurants)! Alternatively, one can also BBQ there too! Oh and the shop serves free flow of barely tea too (apparently it was said that it can cleanse away the excess oil and makes u feel less bloated after a heavy meal)lollol

Definitely going back again to try the other dishes like the kimchi pancake!! THUMBS UP!!!

STRONGLY NOT RECCOMMENDED Cry Dec 30, 2012

Categories : Japanese

I have walked past this place a couple of times and was always attracted by the long snaking queue and yesterday I decided to try out this new kid on the block with my family. I had read about mixed reviews of this place and I thought to myself that surely this place should be worth queuing since no matter what time I walked past, be it non peak or peak hours, there will be a queue.

After queuing up for 40minutes and spotting a few empty uncleared tables while waiting, we were finally seated down. Evidently, the place is understaffed and more specifically with inexperienced staff. There was clearly only the manager (the one dressed in all black) doing all the work as the others, seemingly inexperienced post 'O' level students were idling- walking around nonchalantly and taking small little breaks in the kitchen. There was also only 1 elderly staff who was busy serving the food to the customers and this poor cashier who was running about- serving customers and also handling the payments. All in all, the whole place was in a mess therefore there was nothing much to be expected in terms of service.f

Other than the poor service encountered, the food was fairly disappointing. I believe what attracted the patrons in the first place was the lure of the 'all-you-can-eat appetizers' and the free flow of drink at a mere $1.99 top-up. Frankly speaking, after calculating carefully, it is definitely not cheap at all. At an average price of $13.99++ for a main dish with soup and rice and the appetizers, it may seemed to be a good deal but the serving of the main dish is fairly small and the 'buffet' was hardly topped up at all (another sign of them understaffed). You can spot many patrons waiting eagerly for the chawanmushi only to see it being snapped up within a minute. I had waited for the refill of a few dishes ( marinated radish, toufu, cheese fondue veg) for 1 hour yet by the time I left, all were not refilled yet.

In the month of dec, the in-house special dish was the hokkiado curry and my mum had ordered the dish with chicken. The portion of the chicken was actually quite small. For me, I had pork belly with ginger sauce. The sauce was too sweet for my liking and there was very little taste of the ginger. Overall the meat was very salty as well. My brother had katsudon and look at how small the portion was. The egg was also a tad too runny and therefore at a price of 12.99, everything is definitely overpriced since for the same price, I believe that I can get better food elsewhere, and even a cheaper price in food-courts.

Evidently, people had queued for the novelty therefore for the poor service and standard of the food, I would strongly huffy not recommended!

Yummy Philippines Food in Town OK Dec 21, 2012

Categories : Filipino | Coffeeshop

Each time that I head over to Cathay Cineleisure for movie, I will have my meals at the food court downstairs. Little did I know of this hidden gem tucked right in front of the building, near to the youth park- *scape! At $6.50 per plate of the famous belly pork rice with a bowl of soup, I would think that the price is a little steep, but given the huge serving, I would think that it is worth the price. I was a little disappointed with the pork though and even my friend (who had been a regular patron of the stall and the one who has recommended me this place) agreed in unison. The skin (which is supposedly the best part) is not crispy at all, making it a gruelling experience while attempting to chew the meat. It is best eaten with the sauce since the meat itself is too dry. My friend believed that the meat had been left aside for too long since it was not served piping hot. What a pity. Maybe next time i will head there to throw the chicken which I heard will definitely be more tender.

Timbre@ the substation Smile Dec 19, 2012

I must admit. This is my first time visiting Timbre. I have always wanted to visit Timbre@ old school for its rustic ambiance hence I was really disappointed when it was closed for good. Luckily i have the opportunity to head down to this timbre outlet which was totally different from what I have expected initially- it has an open-air concept and hidden behind a secluded corner, with close vicinity to SMU Biz school and the Peranakan Museum. The downside of such a geographical location is the higher probability of getting a mosquito bite- especially after a heavy downpour and you tend to feel a bit more sticky and perspire slightly more there. All in all, I quite like the ambiance- a nice place to chill after work and have a drink or two of which we spotted quite a number of patrons dropping by for the drinks.
ROASTED DUCK PIZZA

ROASTED DUCK PIZZA

The acclaimed and MUST TRY roasted duck pizza! My girlfriends absolutely love the fried popiah skin toppings and for me I love the combination of the roasted duck and the crunchy toppings. The crust of the pizza is just at the right crunchiness and in comparison to the Skinny Pizza Chain, I prefer this variation of thin crust pizza. The meat is also not too tough and to me, it is tender and juicy.
BUFFALO CHICKEN PIZZA

BUFFALO CHICKEN PIZZA

The Buffalo Chicken pizza- another must-try! For me, I am an onion lover and I love how the onions and the mozzarella cheese and the chicken complemented each other so well!lol It's really a mouth-watering experience for me!
CHICKEN MARSALA FETTUCINE

CHICKEN MARSALA FETTUCINE

The chicken masala pasta- I find that it is a tad too chessy for me but other than that, I like the taste of the herbs and the chicken and the pasta!
XMAS DECO

XMAS DECO

I would strongly recommend to come with a group of friends so that you can share and not feel the pinch since it can be quite expensive, a pizza can cost around 20 bucks! For me, my friends and I shared these 2 pizzas and a plate of pasta and we were so full that we nearly could not finish everything!mad
