My friends and I had reached the restaurant at around 1240pm. I had expected to be greeted with a crowded restaurant given that it was the dreadful lunch hour hence I was pleasantly surprised to see only two groups of diners having their meals there. We ordered the lunch set which set us back at around $14 after service charge and GST ( $10.80++) which consist of a salad ( with a choice of garden green or coslow), soup ( either soup of the day or potato soup with vegetables, with an additional 2 bucks, you can upgrade to either wild mushroom soup or seafood chowder) and a main dish that comes with vegetables and rice. For that price, I would think that it is affordable since if you are to come in for dinner and order from the a la carte items, the total cost will definitely be much more.

Nice garden salad with tangy lemon- I really love the refreshing taste of the lemon

Soup of the day- Spinach soup with garlic bread. The soup does not have any tinge of spinach taste and the soup was not served piping hot ( quite a letdown)

My main course- aromatic rice with grilled dory fish and chessy sauce. The fish was grilled to perfection and I liked how the sauce had complemented nicely with the fish though I find the rice a tad too hard to chew and to me the rice tasted like coconut rice though my friend begged to differ, saying that it might be chicken rice. Nevertheless, I find that the taste of the rice do goes well with my main course, though it can get a little too 'overloading' towards the end of the meal.

Service wise, the staff which served us did not have a good command of English and a qualm that I had was how I was given a malfunctioning plastic cup- that leaked and created a small puddle of water around the cup. All in all what I enjoyed most was the nice view, through the window of the harbour- surely a nice place to go on a date in. Given the steeper price of the food, as suggested by other diners, I would suggest heading there for the lunch set!

Fabulous Teochew Porridge Smile Dec 01, 2012

Since my dialect group is Teochew, my family and I would often patronize this stall for the affordable teochew porridge. The stall is often distinguishable for its long snaking queue, especially during the weekends mealtimes. Therefore I would strongly recommend to visit the stall early- for dinner time to come by as early as 6pm since by 7plus 8 plus, the selection of food will be very limited given the high popularity. I really like the pork chop and the home-made fish cakes which are the best try! The fish is also freshly steamed though one will have to be patient and wait for quite a while for the fish to be cooked. The price is also very affordable with a budget of around 4 dollars if you were to order the fish and lesser if you do not order that.

Penang Fried Kway Teow Smile Dec 01, 2012

I personally like this Penang style Kway Teow in comparison to the local Char Kway Teow that is fried with dark soy sauce and cockles. Admittedly, it is not very 'authentic' given that it is not as flavourful, however what I like about this plate of Kway Teow is the generous portion of ingredients. Some of the hawkers I have observed before tend to fry the beansprouts a tad too early, making the beansprouts overcooked and soggy when it was served on the plate. For this particular stall, the beansprouts was added right towards the end hence when eaten, they were more crunchy and have an added flavour on the food. We ordered the $3 kway teow and the serving was quite sufficient to be shared among the four of us and even though we did not add the chilli, I felt that the kway teow was good enough. Definitely a must try for those who would like to try a different style of kway teow!lol

delightful handmade noodles Smile Dec 01, 2012

I am always a fan of handmade noodles and this is evidently one of the best stalls in Singapore! The price is very affordable- $2.50 and the serving is fairly reasonable with plenty of vegetables and meat and what I love about this handmade noodles is that the noodles are springy (just like maggie mee). The texture is cooked just right and the soup is also not too salty. Each bowl of noodles was slowly cooked and you can feel the effort put into as I felt like its a home made bowl of noodles filled with love. Such attitude towards cooking can hardly be replicated elsewhere when most hawkers are more focused on efficiency and this resulted in the taste being compromised. Many thumbs up!!!lollollol

The first time that I had eaten The Asian Kitchen was at the outlet at Ion Orchard -Lu Gang Xiao Zhen by The Asian Kitchen a 2 years ago, and I was quite disappointed. The serving was small and not as fantastic as expected given the price hence I was hesitant when my peers suggested to head over to this outlet. This time round, I was wrong. Perhaps its the different dishes which I ordered but they were really delicious! The noodles was chewy and the meat was tender, and even though it may look fatty, it is not oily and it just melts in your mouthlol I am really impressed. We ordered side dishes too and they were nowhere disappointing too. I will definitely come back another time to try the other dishes! YUMlol
