Mango Pomelo Sago OK Jun 18, 2013
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Chinese Desserts | Desserts and Cakes

After dinner, we went for dessert. The new outlet at JEM was having a promotion on their best-selling.
The space was relatively small & tables were next to one another with little space for movement. People walking pass nearly bumped into us a few times. sad

One of my favourite dessert:

Mango Pomelo Sago (promotion price of $2+)
There were only about 4 cubes of mangoes and bits of pomelo. Sago were relatively more probably cause it is cheaper. :/ The consistency of it was very weak with little mango puree.
I felt that they were not generous enough with the ingredients considering this is one of their best-seller desserts.

There is no service charge as customers has to place order at the counter.
Overall, it was still quite alright as I love mango pomelo sago. However, I just felt that they could have done more.

Went for dinner here a few times & I rather like the setting as the servers generally leave us alone unless we require any services. This is very pleasant as I don't like people hovering over me while I eat. They don't charge service charge too.
This time, I went for dinner with my boyfriend. We ordered 2 dishes:

yi fu mian. $8
The portion (small) is sufficient to fill 4 bowls. I love yi fu mian and will always order if the restaurant has it.
Taste was awesome! =D But just felt that the chef could use fresh garlic instead as the fried ones are very hard and tends to get stuck in my molars. (might just be me though). =/

nai bai in superior stock. $12
The portion (small) is really quite small for a vegetable-person like me. I also felt that this dish was alittle pricey for the portion.
I like it that they cook this dish with wolfberries which adds to the aesthetic appeal. =)
However, it wasn't superior stock at all, was just in e vegetable-flavored with abit of chicken stock, garlic was rubbery tasting. yuck! Would have preferred fresh garlic as well.

Went for supper at the hawker centre. It was still super busy & we had to wait for a table for 2!
Ordered the bee hoon as we didn't want a too heavy supper. We had ngoh hiang, spring roll and fish kind of ngoh hiang.

Bee hoon ($0.70): Nice & springy. Not too oily. smile
Loved the spring roll ($1) as it it filled with loads of vege. There is even long beans in it.. It was very crispy & the skin wasn't too thick.
ngoh hiang is handmade by the store so had quite high expectation of it. But, it was not superbly fantastic & cost a hefty $2!
fish kind of ngoh hiang ($1): I didn't try it but boyfriend love it! So, it should be petty decent.

We didn't try the chilli that comes with it as we don't take spicy food. But, there are bits of peanuts in it so it should taste quite nice as we see people going back to get more chilli.

Overall, I feel that this meal is too expensive. $4.70 for a simple economical bee hoon store.
Might try it in the morning & review.

Went for a late dinner at Pastamania. It was around 9pm so there was only about 5 tables of people at the time. Most of them had almost finish their meal as well.
Pastamania is having a current promotion:

We went for the Cheesy Crumble Bacon, Lemon honey jello drink and Strawberry pizza. Additional order of Sesame coriander chicken pizza.

Pasta came pretty fast.
Pasta: pasta is springy and it each pasta had sufficient sauce. Not too much, not too little.
Bacon: bacon was fried to a perfection - slightly crispy. None of it was burnt. smile

Next, came our drink: Lemon Honey Jello

It tasted like the malaysian ai yu bing. A mixture of sweet and sour. Personally, I feel that it is too sweet for me. But, my bf loved it!!

After which, our dessert came.

It was DELICIOUS!! The strawberry gave it a tinge of sourness, but not too overwhelming.

By now, it was already 9.30pm. We finished the pasta, drank half the drink and even started on our dessert.
WHERE IS OUR PIZZA?? Hence, we encountered a similar experience as appleteasg. sad

Finally, it came in a take-away box! We told the girl nicely that we want to eat in - which was told when we first ordered. She didn't say anything and just took it away and guess what?! She just left it on the counter, in the box and went to eat her food!! OMG! huffyStory doesn't end yet. We called her several times, waving our hands high in her direction and she is OBLIVIOUS!! huffy huffy
Pastamania should really look into staff training to prevent similar incidents from happening.
In the end, another staff took the pizza out of the box and serve it to us. Luckily for her, it is still warm.

The long-awaited sesame coriander pizza.

The only thing I look forward to in Pastamania.
The taste of sesame, chicken, coriander is just P-E-R-F-E-C-T! lol lol
Crust: thin and baked to perfection. Not too hard even if left on the counter for a period of time.
Ingredients: Each slice had all the ingredients that is suppose to have. Kudos to the chef for taking the effort to ensure! lol

Something on the back of the menu..

XO fried fish bee hoon OK Jan 15, 2013
Categories : Chinese Soup

The store is the 4th store on the right from the main entrance. Heard from a friend who studies in Ngee Ann Poly that the fish soup bee hoon is nice so decided to head down one Saturday afternoon for lunch.
The store has a variety of different staple. the usual thick and thin bee hoon and ee-fu noodle. & the not so usual macaroni, maggi mee.
Ordered the usual thick fried fish bee hoon with milk and XO. The store owner is very cheerful. He kept saying chinese XO = hua diao jiu. & even ask if we want to get drunk.. LOL.

Soup: Flavourful but needs more XO aka 花雕酒 (hua diao jiu).
Noodle: Springy and tends to get starchy as the meal carries on.
Fried fish: Not crispy as it was probably fried some time ago. no fishy taste so it was quite alright.
Other ingredients: There were some strands of vegetable. you can add more vegetables or bitter gourd for additional $0.50.. Fried shallots are optional.

Overall, I won't purposely head down to eat the fish soup as I can get nicer ones outside.
