This is their super famous dishes , i would definitely go back for this again. The amount of prawns , pig stomachs , sotongs & meats is really generous ~~ It has the aunthentic "wok" taste which you hardly can find in Singapore.
Portion Ordered : Medium

Total cost for all those dish was just $74!

For over 45 years, Hong Sheng Restaurant has been drawing crowds with its excellent, tasty Zi Char dishes, cheap prices, and hearty portions. Only open from 5pm - 10pm in the evenings daily, Hong Sheng Restaurant still manages to draw crowds to this sleepy part of Toa Payoh, just opposite the Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) headquarters.

Located in a coffeeshop, don't expect much ambience at Hong Sheng Restaurant. The Zi Char shop takes over the whole coffeeshop at night, even the drinks still isn't operational, so Hong Sheng Restaurant serves its own drinks (Tea). Still, the atmosphere is pretty good, the area is clean, and the surrounding greenery and open air cool the place.

Service at Hong Sheng Restaurant is brusque, bordering on rude, but efficient. Orders are taken quickly, and served just as quickly, despite the crowds. However, you might have to wait some time for dirty tables to be cleared, as only 1 uncle is assigned to that.

The main attraction at Hong Sheng Restaurant is the low, afforable prices, and hearty tasty dishes. Food is nicely portioned for sharing. The signature dish at Hong Sheng Restaurant is the Claypot FIsh Head, with nearly every table ordering this.

It was 3 person serving I guessed, the ingredients were quite a lot with prawns, squids, pork belly and veggies. The Hor Fun was not cooked evenly and it was too sticky for me.

Most satisfied dish for me, the taste was great. Sweet and sour without much bone, the meat was tender.

Unfortunately, I don’t like the fish which was quite smelly. I knew it was well-known dish at here, yet I found no reason why, taste of dish was so normal.

Total of Six huge juicy prawns for four of us, prawn was fresh. I would not say it was fantastic however it was above the average standard.

Total bill was around $68.00. All the food were below my expectation, it was a disappointed trip. I cannot understand why their service was so bad, no doubt their business was good but they really need to change their attitude.

A restaurant located at Toa Payoh, I went there with my family for a dinner. I made a conclusion and want to recommend the dishes below (Prawns and Fish).Nothing special, just a plate of simple steamed prawns. It was so fresh and juicy. The freshness of prawns added points to the dish. The gravy was savoury and flavourful, that's why there was no 'fishy' taste for the fish itself. The gravy was savoury and flavourful, that's why there was no 'fishy' taste for the fish itself. It was very appetizing, sour and a bit spicy which best served with plain rice.

I ordered a coconut after dinner. Cold and refreshing beverage.

Overall, the price of seafood here quite reasonable, worth tohave a trip here to try out.

We were a party of 6 and we had:

1) Claypot Fish Head - this is their specialty! Half a fish head in a Claypot of yam, assorted vegetables and slices of roast pork. You honestly can finish a bowl of white rice with this dish only. The gravy is savory enough to make kids finish all their rice!

2) Har Jiong Gai - this is a common Zichar item but the difference from stall to stall is that this stall makes them well!

3) Hong Siew Tofu - another Claypot favorite of mine. If the Claypot Fish Head is too costly for you, this is a close yummy substitute.

4) Sauté Kai Lan - yummy Zichar style with wok-Hei. Good!

5) Fried Baby Squid - this dish also well done.

6) Gou Lou Yoke - hubby liked this dish too. But then again, he's not known to dislike meat dishes. To be fair, they also did this dish well.

The best part of the meal is really the cost of it in the end. It worked out to be $13 per pax for a very satisfied meal. Definitely a place to return too...
