Tong Xin Ju同心居Special Shanghai Tim Sum with a history that dates back to the 1940s used to be at Margaret Drive is now at Maxwell Food Centre. And still as good.If not better.Their Shanghai Nian Gao with seafood. This is the small portion at $4.It isn't big on seafood. But that isn't the main star of this dish.Their sliced nian gao is and it shines through.Delightfully chewy yet easily digestible. The gravy is lightly seasoned and encapsulates wonderfully umami seafood flavours within that makes one want to finish up every last drop of this!Seafood hor fun is my favourite cze char dish but it's definitely taking a backseat to this. And how can one not make an order for their legendary dumplings?I went for their healthier option steamed dumplings today.Served piping hot. They steam only upon each order.Generous servings of minced meat mixed with some chopped ham for that tinge of pink peeking through its translucent skin.Perfect with ginger and vinegar. continue reading

If you have a craving for Shanghai Tim Sum, look no further than Tong Xin Ju in Maxwell market. It has been around for many years and have a ardent following of loyal customers, having to queue for good food is always worth it!The fried dumplings (Guo Tie) is my favourite. Juicy, light brown and crispy, the fried dumpling together with their sauce is yummy! I didnt try the steamed dumplings, as I prefer fried ones, but saw many who ordered that, so i guess it should be good as well. The sour and spicy soup is also the main attraction, such a big bowl of soup power-packed with lots of ingredients, it is definitely value for money. The Beijing noodles are also in a big serving with lots of prawns, my sis wiped the whole plate of noodles off unknowingly! Prices start from $3 onwards.Service is good too, they are very friendly and polite even when they are busy, which is really a plus point. It just makes eating there a really nice experience. On and off, I do go there to buy the fried dumplings home to eat, they are as good when its packed back, of course you dont keep it for hours before eating. continue reading

We tried both the steamed one and fried one, we like the fried one, it is very freshly made, for this price, this stall dumplings are good and nice with very fresh ingredients used with friendly staff around, I saw it on tv, decide go down try, indeed very good. The steamed one tastes very nice with the vinegar and ginger. The fried one ingredients are very tasty, once you start eating, you can't stop. Nice stall for dumplings. continue reading

Tried the dim sum here at Tong Xing Ju Special Shanghai Dim sum and i must say it was not too bad. The har gaw consisted of a really fresh and large prawn which was cooked perfectly. Love it that the har gaw skin is not too thick and that the prawn is fresh. Other dim sum such as the beancurd skin was good as it was crispy and very fragrant. the banana and prawn roll was good too.Prices here are quite affordable and is worth the money. Quality of foos is not bad! continue reading

Ever since my friend brought me to savor the Sour and Spicy soup from Tong Xin Ju, everytime when I have craving for it I will always go there for a quick fix. Their Sour and Spicy soup is different from those you had (those Sze Chuan style) outside - for Tong Xin Ju, their soup is full of awesome ingredients - pork slice, Sotong, Prawn, Tofu and etc. I always ordered a bigger portion to share with my friends or if I am feeling glutton that day, I will just finish the whole big bowl myself. Other than that, I will also order their dumplings or Stir fried nian gao to go with the soup. Both tasted good as well. It is better to order and eat there on the spot than takeaway as it might taste different when the food is cold. continue reading
