2013-12-31
When you’re searching for food places where you can have a good meal, Telok Blangah may not be the first choice that comes to your mind right away. But you know what, this part of Singapore deserves some exploring for there are many worthy restaurants that deserve your recognition. Here are some of them: 1. Privé Grill

What We Like: The stellar service and the sumptuous offerings Privé Grill has the allure of being one of the few restaurants situated at Singapore’s only private island, Keppel Bay. Just the fact that it’s secluded pretty much attracts throngs of foodies - mostly expats - to dine here. One thing good about Privé Grill is that it’s not just location; it’s also got the menu which keeps them coming back for more. To set the mood for a fantastic dinner, the restaurant’s interior is designed to be very intimate with enough space in between tables. Grayish walls and carpeted floors, accented by dim lights, complete the whole look. There’s also an al fresco area where guests can dine while enjoying the bay view filled with yachts. Menu can’t get any stellar than the 180g Savannah Angus Ribeye Steak, which is josper grilled to perfection. Complement the main course with the rich and creamy Lobster Bisque (it’s got meaty lobster chunks) and the Scallop Ceviche - prepared with cherry tomatoes, asparagus, arugula, and olive oil. It’s also got a bit of heat to balance the citrusy flavour. Any meal at Privé Grill always comes with the amuse bouche and home-made bread. --- 2 Keppel Bay Vista, Telok Blangah | +65 6776 0777 2. Takumi Tokyo

What We Like: The different culinary styles they use to prepare items How about some Japanese fine dining? Have your wish come true at Takumi Tokyo, which is nestled within Singapore’s only private island. First of all, we just have to mention the restaurant’s picturesque view of the Keppel Bay where all the yachts are docked. The restaurant has big glass walls which gives you an unobstructed view of the background. As for the food, Takumi Tokyo uses three authentic Japanese culinary styles – Robatayaki where skewered food is slow-grilled over hot charcoal; Teppanyaki where an iron griddle is used and other ala carte items cooked in different ways. Ingredients such as meat, fish, and other produce are imported from Kyushu, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Executive Chef Shige Shiraishi, the man who leads the kitchen, prepares wonderful items such as the Chawanmushi, a staple in Japanese cuisine. The Wagyu sirloin, prepared the teppanyaki way; while the seafood items are slow-cooked over premium grade charcoal. This gives it that distinct smokey flavour. Do try the kaiseki menu for more options too. --- Marina at Keppel Bay, 2 Keppel Bay Vista, #02-01, Telok Blangah | +65 6271 7414 3. Faber Bistro

What We Like: Wide selection of Japanese food… plus sake! It seems like Singapore can’t get enough of restaurants and bars with a view. Located in the iconic Mount Faber is Moonstone Bar & Grill – another one of these places which gives a panoramic view of South China Sea. You can actually come and sit in one of their comfy chairs and just watch the ships come and go. It’s a pretty relaxing way to kill time, especially if you got drinks on hand! At Moonstone, you won’t run out of sake or “rice wines” for they have over a hundred hot and cold varieties. These go perfectly well with their Yakitori grilled fish or meat) - also a specialty at the bar. But of course, this won’t be enough for a filling meal. So order some add-ons like the Animoko Tofu (monk fish liver tofu), Aigamo Tataki (smoked duck in sweet sauce and topped with bean sprouts), and the Chashu Udon (pork belly udon). --- The Jewel Box, 109 Mount Faber, Level 2 , Telok Blangah | +65 6276 0609 5.
