i have been to 2 other gimtim group restaurants & they were pretty good-
imperial court @ grassroots club suckling pig set
tim palace @ SAFRA toa payoh ala carte semi-buffet lunch
they have a S$13.80 nett teochew muay weekdays buffet lunch.
buffet turned out better than i expected.:-)
setting & dishes were humble, but the taste was quite good.
chicken was good, tender & sauce tasty.
duck wings so so, can skip.
mui choy 梅菜 was good, not salty, nice flavour.
kiam chai咸菜 also good, not salty, & sweet.
egg plant boleh da…
chicken feet was good. friend went to get a second helping.
ter kar (pig trotters) nice gummy tecture & tasty. people took most of it i managed to get some odds & ends.
tau kee average competent.
pork & cauliflower simple, ok.
egg tofu quite well done. with wood fungus & chinese cabbage, sweet.
strange they did not have kong bak. friend only picked up pig head meat, tofu & egg. they were good.:-)
there was a refill, but only pig ears. good too.:
the i think ikan selar? was good. people took the tails so only eft heads.
i will try to cook this dish myself.
i enjoyed all these little sides – fermented beancurd, peanut ikan bilis, olive vegetable, haebeehiam & radish pickles.
all memory foods from childhood la….
had some fruit (papaya) + pulut hitam.
i don’t mind this place. can come back some time again with my sis.

For weekends, its hardly that you will get a table without a reservation as it is usually fully booked with tables of happy family. Fortunately, we walked in early and got ourselves a table and was served by friendly staff. One good point to note was that you can see that Gim Tim employs senior citizens around as servers I felt very comfortable with.

I must say that I was not very hungry but I had an impressive start with their deeply fried golden brown Xia Zao (Prawn Dumplings). Dipping into its sweet and savoury sauce was truly heavenly. The taste of it was indescribable and definitely unique on its own. I haven't tasted such different Xia Zao anywhere else!

Vegetables were not stated on their menu somehow and we had ordered the stirred fried Kai Lan with garlic. Nothing extra special about the dish, its quite standard.

Replacing the bowls of rice, we had the fried traditional tapioca roll. If you enjoy the Hakka Abacus Beads / Seeds, I bet you would pretty much enjoy this dish! Ingredients were almost or identical to the Hakka dish with dried shrimp, spring onions, bean sprouts and tapioca. The catch in the dish is none other than the thin and springy slices of Tapioca Roll complemented by the sweet tasty sauce as well as the fragrant of fried dried shrimp. Yummy!

The true blue classic Hokkien dish that I'm waiting for! Since everywhere is emphasizing on healthier food, I guess this is why Kong Bah has become lean nowadays! Slices of "Bui Bui" (Fatty translated from dialect) meat has gone lean!You can still see the distinctive layers on each and every piece of the Kong Bah though it was deeply coated in its toothsome braised sauce. Sandwich this good stuff in the fluffy smooth pau with a portion of lettuce and enjoy the absolute juicy-ness that comes to your mind as you sink your teeth into the meat! It was ever-so-satisfying!

Here comes the Teochew's Favourite, Or Nee aka Yam Paste! Marvelous, suiting the taste buds! With mashed Taro mixed with Gingko nuts and corn kernels, its naturally sweet with minimal use of sugar and coconut milk. I thought it was good as they had given good consideration to older folks who enjoy the desserts!

Nothing fanciful spotted from the Mango Puree with Pamelo, perhaps the way they served in a cup got our eyes wider? It was something running of the mill and not much comments about it.

Gim Tim, I have always wanted to visit them many years back after hearing pleasant things about them via words of mouth and I was very pleased to visit them! The spirit of their stuff and atmosphere of dining is something I'm looking forward to and you can see happy faces enjoying meals with their families of generations. It's a good place for family gathering and also if you enjoy such cuisine.

I would like to recommend the yam ring from Gim Tim. It is huge, only about $15.There are a lot of ingredients within – cashews, chicken, corns, capsicum, carrots, mushroom etc. All are in very generous servings. I like it a lot because the yam is soft and tasty, while crispy on the outside. The yam ring doesn't have an oily after taste or those bad oil taste. The chickens are fresh and juicy. The cashew nuts and greens added texture and taste to the overall dish so that it's not so boring just

We are frequent diners of Gim Tim. Love the food there, not too salty or oily. And the price is quite reasonable - they don't charge service charge. Only GST. Like the sweet sour fish with pine nuts the best. very yummy. We always order this dish when we dine in Gim Tim. Other dishes to recommend include yam paste, the yam ring.

The meal is ended with yam paste with sweet corn and ginkgo nuts. I am surprised to see a bowl of white when served. It seems that the sauce that served on top of the yam paste is too watery and tastes gluey to me. Best get rid of the white sauce.

Overall the meal is still alright. Drink is refilled regularly.

I have wanted to try out this place for a while, so this time around when our office is looking for a restaurant to celebrate the 1st day opening of the Horse year, we decided to have it there. We ordered the $398+, 8 course meal for 10 person.

The feast begin with Prosperity Raw Salmon Fish (“Yu Sheng”). The Yu Sheng might look simple, however the ingredients such as the carrots and radish are fresh and crunchy. The sauce has the right level of sweetness, creating a well balance combination and it really wakes up your appetite for the next dish. I manage to scoop some of the salmon to give me luck for this coming year.

Following the Yu Sheng there are the Shark Fin Soup with Shredded Dried Seafood and Stewed Trotter with “Bak Ku Teh” Taste. The soup is very tasty and robust, the combination of the stock and dried seafood is provide the richness in the soup. The trotter skin basically just melts in your mouth, while the meat is tender. The gravy has a unique BKT taste, but well balance in terms of the seasoning. You won't feel overwhelmed even if you have too much of the trotter that are filled with collagen.

A fish dish for the Chinese New Year Banquet is a must. Steamed Grouper with Soya Sauce is well done. It was steamed just right and again the sauce is just perfect. The fish is fresh and you won't feel the muddy taste in the meat. Grouper provide a slightly resilient meat, but no complain here. Braised Sea Clam with Mushroom and Lettuce is the vegetable dish. The vegetable is crunchy accompanied with thick and robust gravy. The Sea clam was cooked slightly too soft in texture, that can be mistaken for mushroom.

As most of us started to struggle to finish the dishes on the table, Poached Live Prawn with Wine & Wolfberry were served. The prawns are fresh, sweet and juicy. It is good to have a sip of the gravy while eating the prawns. The sweetness from the wolfberry and wine, is just delicious.

Fried Ee Fu Noodle with XO Sauce means the banquet almost reach the finish line. This is the first time I saw Ee Fu mee paired with XO Sauce. The XO sauce is very tasty and “got kick”. The Chef seems to know the customers well. Unlike those banquet where you need to add cut chilli and soya sauce, Gim Tim version of Ee Fu Mee has all the condiments needed.

For desserts, Sweetened Osmanthus with Glutinous Rice Ball signifies the end of the meal. The Osmanthus provide a healthy feel to the desserts, its roughness in texture causing it to stuck to your teeth. The combination with peanut filled rice ball, it is a dish that might takes time for one to get used to .

Service is fast, friendly and efficient. Most of the service staff seems to have a good mileage working in Gim Tim, so the service is just smooth. Some of the service staff even keep checking with me if I want to take picture or not. What a nice lady


Overall, I really like the taste, presentation and creativity of the food in Gim Tim. It seems the combination of Hokkien and Cantonese cuisine created many well-balanced dishes that are perfectly executed. I really enjoy the food here and I can't wait for the next visit to use the lucky draw voucher that I won. Cheers and Huat Ah!!!!!

- Crispy Peking Duck - Not very crispy but it was good I still prefer to wrap it on my own. And the Peking Duck meat was stir-fried and serve with lettuce and we can wrapped and eat with it and is really good but it was really filling!

- Wok Fried Lobster with Rice Vemercelli - by this dish I am already quite full but this was really good the vemercelli absorb all the sweetness of the gravy so when you chew it the sweetness just burst into the mouth! Lobster was fresh too!

Overall dining experience was good, the elderly group enjoyed the session over the dinner so is our generation! And the dinner package was a good catch!

every year during CNY, my BIL will ask us out for dinner together with his parents.. this year we decide to go Gim Tim for dinner.. I have heard many reviews about Gim Tim but has yet to go try... the food is nice and service quite prompt.. place is clean but not very spacious..Without fail, most restaurants will have yusheng during CNY period, the Yusheng at Gim Tim is not bad too but I still prefer Dragon Phoenix Yusheng.Sharkfin soup, not bad, the stock they use is very nice and not very salt

Prawn, they deep fried the prawns and then fry it again with a nice, sweet sauce. Thou the prawns are deep fried but you can still taste that the prawn is fresh and does not stick to the shell.

this restaurant that i've grown up with is in an unassuming location in a quiet corner of amk ave 4. but. don't bother walking in without reservations.you probably won't ever get a seat. i really kid you not! so make reservations ahead of time.and you'll definitely get to indulge in this claypot of mince pork and eggplant!this made me eat 1.5 bowls of rice. it is evil. purely delish evil.

The aunties almost don't want to serve this as all are rushing to pack up and go off. A lot of tables are not served. I keep on asking for it. After serving, the aunty still got the cheek to ask if I want it, as the table next to me is also waiting for dessert. Tastes like a more watered down version of Lao Ban.

Dropped by Gim Tim for dinner with my parents, who had heard much about it but never really gotten down to trying. Just a little background on Gim Tim. Dropped by Gim Tim for dinner with my parents, who had heard much about it but never really gotten down to trying. Just a little background on Gim Tim. It started out as a humble restaurant in its present location, at the corner of a row of shophouses in the midst of a sleepy HDB estate. From there, it has since grown into 4 outlets but with only the original outlet retaining the Gim Tim name.

If its your first visit, some topography skills are required as the restaurant is located behind a market in a quiet cul-de-sac facing a block of HDB flats. The interior holds no allure, save for the fact that its air conditioned.

Braised Boneless Duck with Sea Cucumber - We ordered this dish thinking that it was sufficient for 3 people. It turned out to be much bigger than expected ( I estimate it to be for about 5 pax) and we had to doggy bag the left overs. The duck meat was tender yet firm and fibrous while the sea cucumber was not too soft and chewy. Both came in generous servings. Just a little something that I learnt about the cooking procedure for this dish. The duck has to be fried first till crispy and then simmered in the gravy to let it absorb all the flavours. Thats why the duck meat still manages to remain firm when served.

Broccoli with Prawns - A most excellent dish with the sizeable prawns fresh and crunchy and the broccoli cooked just right. Simple yet tasty.

Home Made Beancurd with Spinach - A little crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the homemade beancurd was decent, but still had room for improvements. One major flaw is its lack of taste, even with the spinach. I did like the mushrooms that came with it though, wildly refreshing yet not overpowering.

>$80 for 3 pax might seem a little too much given the variety of food and cost of items. However, no one complained. Honestly, I think the quality and potions more than justify the price. Throw in good service minus the service charge and this place goes into my book of must return places.
