The dim sum here were all hand-made on the spot by the two gentlemen in the above picture while the lady attended to the queue of customers.

(+) Juicy and succulent. The siew mai had juices bursting out in my mouth upon the first bite.
(+) Very flavoursome, especially the pork, which was very well seasoned.

(-) Depending on individuals, this was acceptable by our standards as a rather soft, tender type of dumpling as opposed to the more commonly preferred crunch (primarily due to the prawns)

Verdict: 7.0/10

(+) Loose fatty meat were chosen which went very well in fact.
(+) The bun itself was very tender, literally 'melt-in-your-mouth' since it was freshly served to us from the bamboo steamer.
(+) Lingering tinge of rose-wine which enhanced the aroma and taste.

(-) The rose-wine that was added gave it the unique standing among the other bau-makers out there. That being said, it might not appeal to everyone.

The Char Siew Bau and Siew Mai were good enough for us to 'dabao' (takeaway) extra servings, so that itself could warrant more credit if anything.

Verdict: 8.0/10

My recommendation for today tim sum is their signature Hong Kong Egg Tart. The crispy and flaky outer skin layer of the egg tart just went perfectly well with their homemade egg filling. The fragrance of the hot piping egg tart attracts you from a distance, making you feel hungry already. Once you try one, you tends to crave for more. It is best eaten hot. Do not hesitate, go and grab one of yours now!

Located on the second floor in Chinatown Complex Market, this humble dim sum hawker stall whips out decent and fresh dim sum at affordable prices. If you are expecting hotel or restaurant quality dim sum from a hawker centre joint, you might be disappointed. But since the prices charged at the stall are much less than those places, so naturally expectations should be lowered too. But that doesn’t mean freshness and quality is compromised here.

There is a ready stream of customers at this stall and a queue system is implemented to cater to customers. So when you arrive here, you should get a queue number first then wait patiently for your number to flash on the electronic board before proceeding to place your orders. The wait depends on how many people are in front of the queue and also depends on how fast the stall is able to churn out dim sum to meet the orders. Dim sum is freshly made and sold on the day and the stall closes once they have run out of dim sum. I waited about 25 minutes and explored the other stalls in the meantime.

There actually isn’t much food choice from this stall: the 6 main dim sum dishes served are shown on the signboard on the store’s front (Char siew bao, siew mai, har gow, chicken feet, prawn and char siew chee cheong fun). Each dim sum item costs $2 and it’s really cheap and good! All dim sum is also freshly taken from the steamer, so they are served piping hot!

Char Siew Bao ($2 for 3 pieces) is incredibly fluffy and soft when it’s warm. Not like those hard, dense overly sticky buns you might get elsewhere. The fillings are a nice surprise- the char siew filling is really fragrant and juicy. The char siew meat had been diced into smaller pieces and you can taste the roasted meat which complements the nice sweet red marinade sauce.

Siew Mai and Har Gow ($2 for 3 pieces of each kind): Siew Mai was not bad- each bite is filled with chunky pieces of fresh, succulent pork. The har gow is also fantastic- the prawn pieces inside were really fresh and crunchy. The outer skin was neither too thin nor too thick; just enough to encase the prawn fillings and complement the prawn fillings.

Prawn cheong fun ($2) was really tasty too- the rice noodle roll was really smooth and each roll contained generous portions of chopped chunky fresh prawns. The soya sauce provided the main bulk of flavouring for the dish and it really enhances the dish with its salty, sweet combination of flavours.

Although you might have to brave the queue and the stuffy atmosphere of the food centre, this is nonetheless a great place for your fix of affordable dim sum! Do note they close on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Being in Chinatown always puts me in the mood for dim sum! This stall at the Chinatown Complex had a long queue, so I figured it had to be good. For $2 I got 3 large char siew pao. They were SOOO much better than your average coffee shop pao. The outside was light and fluffy, not at all dense and gummy. The char siew inside was really flavourful - the perfect balance of spice and sweet. I also liked the accompanying chili sauce to dip the, in.I'll definitely buy dim sum from here again - lots

Before you get to order, you need to get a number tag then wait for your turn to order. Their siew mai and hai gor are highly recommended. They are going for 3 in a basket for $2. My personal favourite has always been the hai gor. I can taste the real prawn wrapped with prawn paste in a thin layer of skin. Siew mai tasted equally good. It consists of chunks of seasoned meat wrapped in the skin. Another must try are char siew pau and braised chicken feet.

This Hong Kong Tim Sum stall has a very good range of chinese dim sum that well like by most of them staying near the Chinatown area. For me, I get to know this stall from my friend and eventually I have been revisiting this stall quite oftenly. Their char siew bao is one of my favourite choice as they have very fragrant and juicy char siew meat in it and the bao's texture is firm and fluffy. One of the best char siew bao i ever ate before.

This steamed paos are handmade daily before serve to the customers. The pao.texture is firm and not too hard and thick. The secret recipe for this finger food will be the char siew meat in the pao. The pork meat is juicy and has been roasted really well before cut into smaller pieces before fit into the pao. The combination of the meat and pao are simply delicious and looks good as well.

Although there are many dim sum stalls in the chinatown area, the best value for money dim sum can be found at Chinatown Complex Market at the stall Hong Kong Mongkok Tim Sum. You need to remember to take a number card and wait for your number to be called before ordering. The har gow and siew mai are very good. You can really taste the fresh prawn taste in the har gow. The siew mai has the nice meaty taste and should not be missed.

I went on a Saturday afternoon. I was there at about 2.10 pm to pick up a number tag. It came as quite a shock when i realised there were at least 20 customers ahead of me. And, if you are wondering what is so special about their Har Gow? It is none other than a whole piece of prawn nicely wrapped in a translucent skin at a reasonable price.

If you have yet to try it then perhaps you should and you will be pleasantly surprised by the standard of their different types of dim sum.

I started eating from this stall when they were at the temporary hawker centre a long time ago.

The boss and his family migrated over from Hong Kong and he brought along his skills in making these tim sums.

The items available at this stall are Char Siew Bun, Siew Mai, Har Gao, Steamed chicken feets, Prawn Chee Cheong Fun and Char Siew Chee Cheong Fun. All of these items are priced at $2.00 per tray. For Char Siew Bun, Siew Mai and Har Gao, there are 3 pieces in a tray.

My personal favourite are Siew Mai and Har Gao. Both Siew Mai and Har Gao are rather big in size. Har Gao is definitely the star, minced and chunky prawn pieces can be found inside the filling.

The Char Siew Bun came with very generous Char Siew filling. The same filling can be found in the Char Siew Chee Cheong Fun too, and chunky prawn pieces are in the Prawn Chee Cheong Fun.

You might want to take note of the queue system there. You are expected to take a number first then wait for your turn to be served. They are closed on Monday and Tuesday.

This is definitely one of the most value for money and well affordable tim sum places in town.
