Out of most of their noodle or rice items which I had tried so far, my highly recommended one would be the Minced Pork Hor Fun. Simple yet flavorful with its minced pork gravy with mushroom, the chili condiments provided added additional twist to the noodles. The chilli was really good, fragrant and not too spicy. Now I don't bother trying other items at all haha

The set meal comes with a dessert and side dish of either yam cake or carrot cake by just paying a minimal top up charges. Again I enjoyed eating the yam cake with the chilli together. On the other hand, the Mango Pomelo Sago desserts was just ordinary. Other desserts options include Sesame Paste, Red bean Soup or Almond Paste which I find them all too sweet.

One of the signature items is the Mango Roll. It was nothing fantastic. The skin was slightly too thick while the mango chunk was a tad sourish

Overall, I would consider this as a simple yet satisfying meal. I love their chilli and I cannot do without it if I were to eat at ShengKee.

Just had my lunch in this restaurant. The environment was quite spacious and cooling. The service here is abit slow and not that friendly. Dumpling noodles portion was quite generous and noodles are very chewy. Dunplings are filled with lots of juicy minced meat as well. The dumpling skin is very smoot h and thin. Big bao has very chewy bun skin that really fragrant and not too dry. Meat inside is also very fresh and juicy. For less than $10 per meal is quite value for money.,

I had eaten here before and was particularly impressed with the quality of the food even though it is a casual restaurant with no service charge (you need to order at the counter). I love the smoothness of the dumplings here and the portion is just right for me. I never paid much attention to HK Sheng Kee Desserts because I often associate it with 'chinese desserts'-- black sesame paste, dumplings, soy bean curd and my only impression of the food they serve is wanton noodles. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is a selection of dimsum that looks quite palatable so we were game to try it for a weeknight dinner. It is a self service restaurant so you need to order your food at the counter. We ordered the following:

What I found great was that the dishes were not out-of-this-world but fresh, well-prepared and value-for-money. For example, the spring trios are just spring rolls served in a longish form but when you bite into it, the filling was actually fresh and juicy, not dry with a too thick crust that you find commonly. Also, the siew mai did not have a strong smell of pork, and goes very well with their chilli.

The cheong fun was quite special because even though the texture is more that of the traditional chee cheong fun (not the smoother hongkong dimsum version), it went very well with the meat sauce and provides a filling main on its on for a small-eater. Then comes the ultimate test of the custard bun! You guys who follow me will know that i'm abit crazy-obsessed with custard buns such as the likes of and and this one already failed on presentation. The picture looks uninspiring to me. OK anyway while both me and angmokia try to bite very cautiously (the texture already convinced us it wasnt too filled with custard) but somehow the stuff oozed out from the centre of the flat side of the bun... leaving us to lick up the mess from our cutlery. =P it was quite tasty.. more to the savoury type that i like.. but the texture of the bun failed... it tasted more cake than fluffy bun to me.. having said that.. it could be a quick fix for custard bun cravings in vivocity. heh.

The dumpling noodle soup exceeded my expectations with hints of fragrant sesame oil, melt-in-your-mouth- slippery wanton skin, thin springy noodles and a just-nice portion for a small-eater.

All in all, i would say i like the presentation of using black cutlery quite different from the usual chinese restaurant and keeping it a casual restaurant but still keeping quality control. Btw, the service in Vivocity is quite good too, with an overly enthusiastic uncle attending to us and reminding us to write our feedback form. Will definitely go back to try out the other funky dishes like fried mango and prawn roll which was sold out.

Taste-wise, I find the yam cake to be too salty, which was made worse by the salty dried shrimp added as toppings to the cake. Granted, the yam cake itself was quite soft and smooth. However, generally speaking there's nothing to shout about for this item. Perhaps it's worth a try at the offer price, but I'll definitely not buy it again at the normal price.
