Named for Master Baker and Founder Eric Kayser, Maison Kayser was established in 1996 in Paris, France. Since then it has grown worldwide, with at least 1 bakery in most major cities. Maison Kayser is well known for its innovative baking techniques and equipment, including several designed by the founder himself, such as the Fermentolevain machine which maintains liquid leaven at ideal temperatures.
Ambience at Maison Kayser is casual and functional. Layout is spacious, though furniture seems to show signs of aging. This isn't a place known for ambience. Service at Maison Kayser is above average, while staff are polite and efficient, attracting their attention requires a bit of work. They seem a bit shorthanded too.
Maison Kayser specialises in authentic French breads and pastries, made according to traditional recipes. A strict attention to detail and insistence on quality when producing their products means Maison Kayser has extremely well made and tasty bread. Bakers usually train for over 1 year just to master the house techniques of slow kneading and long fermentation, and each bakery is overseen by a Master Baker who is trained in all the recipes.
Surprisingly, the distinctive premium quality of Maison Kayser is offset by their reasonable and affordable prices, which most breads and pastries costing between SGD $3 - $8. Maison Kayser is also known for incorporating local flavours into their products with French patisserie techniques, producing some interesting fusion flavours.

An excellent flaky, buttery Croissant (SGD $4) that is crisp, tasty and not too rich or oily. Very good.

For those with a sweet tooth, there is the Bichon Poire Caramel (SGD $6), a flaky, buttery, crisp pastry shell filled with a mixture of caramelised pears and caramel sauce. Extremely sweet and rich, a decadent dessert pastry.

Maison Kayser is a French bakery which originated in France and has seen opened stores in many locations around the world. Today I decided to try their croissant ($2.60) which was quite pricey but I think it is a fair price to pay considering that this is a European brand with a global presence. The croissant is not very crumbly nor does it have a very strong buttery taste. A bit hard but still have the airy fluffy texture, which is the trait for croissants.

I still think I had better croissants when I was traveling in Europe or maybe the croissants here have been changed to adapt to the Singaporean climate and locals’ tastebuds. Still it’s is quite a big portion and though I would not return for their croissants, I had be interested to dine there next time.

Was looking for a place for tea time and this nice cafe came to my mind. We had the Tarte Set ($8+) with a choice of a tarte and drink. Quite a good deal... I chose the Mont Blanc, which is rich and smooth and a nice tinge of chestnut, thumbs up! Coffee was good too. It is a ideal place to chill and have a good nice meal. There are also several lunch sets which is really value for money. While enjoying my sweet treat, I was greatly attracted by the eclair at the next table hahaha! So delish and

Maison Kayser is a very popular French bakery all over the world, with outlets from Paris to Japan and to UAE. In Singapore, one of the outlets is located at Wheelock Place, which runs quite a brisk business.Danish Salee ($4.30)Danish Pastry with roasted chicken, roasted onion and cheese.Currently the outlet has a new item on sale which is called Danish Salee. It is very creamy with cubes of chicken on it. It feels like eating chicken stew to me.

I was looking for a place for desserts and chanced upon Maison Kayser. Looking at what they offered, their pastries looked more appetizing than those from, e.g. canele or tiong bahru bakery. Decided on the one with berries (can't remember the name of it) which was recommended. It was extremely filling but I was still able to finish it - sponge cake topped with berries which were a little sour complimented the whole cake well, which was not too sweet. Makes a good tea time dessert.

A nice colleague of mine suprised me with a nice treat from Maison Kayser. He got me the Tarte au Framboise from this outlet at Wheelock. It really does look too prettty to be eaten. The tart is buttery and crumbly, the custard is perfectly sweet! The Raspberry is too sour for me but its wise to be eaten together with the tart and not by itself. You would enjoy the chemistry between the sweetness of the custard and the sour raspberry. I'll definitely try more of their pastries soon!

There aren’t many choices for mains at Maison Kayser if you’re looking for something heavy to fill your tummy. The menu is dominated mainly with salads and sandwiches which they are famous for. They even bake all their bread fresh everyday! Well, I didn’t quite fancy the choices of sandwiches they had so I decided to go for their Steak Loin Spaghetti ($13).

Look at that medium rare piece of meat – it’s perfectly the way I like my steak. The outside is char-grilled to perfection while the inside is still pink and juicy! I’m not much of a meat lover, but this cut of steak is simply so tender that it melts in my mouth. You would have expected something tougher based on its char-grilled appearance. But it turned out surprisingly good!

You will also get a basket of freshly baked bread with all their main courses. And the best part is that the bread is re-fillable once for free (if you want to load up on carbs, that is). I only had two slices of bread from the basket but it was so fluffy that I had to resist the urge to gobble down the rest of it. Their coffee is also really good – I ordered the Iced Latte ($6), which usually tends to be too milky, but this one was already super invigorating on the first sip. Just the way I like my coffee (with a punch).

And just when I was about to leave, I decided to backtrack and takeaway one of their tarts for dessert. Good thing I did that because I would have totally regretted it if I had not done so! Their Raspberry Tart or Tarte au Framboise ($5.80) is so super-deliciously-awesome! It’s absolutely not sweet and the raspberries are not that sour too. The tart base is also really crumbly and buttery. There is actually another outlet nearby at Scotts Square, so I'll probably check that out next time to takeaway more of their yummy desserts!

I was abit shocked but just waited for it to come to see in what form did it came in. It really didn’t feel so milky but it had a very fine balance between the difference layers of taste– full-bodied arabica coffee, not coyingly sweet chcolate syrup and minimum milk to override the taste of the previous 2 ingredients.

We also ordered the chocolate eclair just for fun even though we were not hungry at all. I’m never a big fan of eclair (don’t really like any kind of whipped cream stuff). I thought it was fine and fresh but angmokia was quite raving about it. I was very impressed with all the bakes and bread and croissant stuff though. Go back one day I must!

Having tried their outstanding eclairs previously, their Custard Cream Puff $3.70 failed to shine equally as the choux pastry does not have the crusty bite on the surface which I looked out for.

Nonetheless, this Tarte Monge $6.20 emerged as a very well-executed pastry draped with tangy Red Berries. The unique selling point lies in the use of White Cheese which is not too satiating. With the sweetness coming only from the moist vanilla sponge, the filling of this fromage tart is so fantastic that I can forgive the average brown crust.

The Tarte Brazilia ($5.60) is an ideal combination of baked coffee and chocolate custard filling because the taste can become dull if its only chocolate. The tart shell faced similar problem as the Tarte Monge but fortunately fully baked to the extent of producing a slightly charred aftertaste.

They have the classics lemon meringue tart, raspberry fruit tart , chocolate pear tart and tiramisu. But since these are quite commonly found in other places, i would like to recommend something different like the above at Maison Kayser.

Madison kayser has really good breads! Came here for breakfast on a weekend morning and ordered a raisin walnut bread. Although pricey, the bread is really not bad. There are generous chunks of raisins and walnuts evenly dispersed throughout the bun. The bread is like a mix between French style bread, and soft Japanese buns. They are more dense than the Japanese buns but lack the hard crust of French ones. Worth a try at least once.
