The Green Egg & Ham are actually scrambled eggs with basil pesto and prosciutto (parma ham, yes I Googled it)! My friend and I both agreed that this was the nicest one out of the three we had so far! You could taste the leafy taste (if you know what I mean) from the basil and it was pretty nice!

Egg Benedict was so-so only, the poached egg was a little too cooked and the Hollandaise sauce lacks the zest. Think they added too little lemon juice.

Oh but the potatoes (they called it the home-fries) were gooooooood!

Baked Eggs with Toast Soldiers (SGD14)
Highly raved online but I thought it was mediocre only!
For the Baked Eggs, the eggs yolks were cooked at the side of the bowl but in the middle, we could still see watery egg white inside. Not sure if it's meant to be so watery. But the cheese are a (Y).

Toast Soldiers were fragrant but they were so oily

Dipping them into the Baked Eggs' sauce complemented them though!

And yes, this set comes with home-fries too!

Their home-fries taste bad, probably we don't like the way it is cooked. Their plate doesn't look appealing and their eggs doesn't taste nice either. It's funny when they add a watermelon to the meal.Their interior wasn't nicely decorated as their furniture used seems too old which doesn't give the cafe a nice ambience. Overall still okay, but won't come back again. It's located near the railway, so you can take some pictures before leaving.

Brunching at Cafe Epicurious @ The Rail Mall . The ambience of this place is cool and modern, but for some reason the servers seem to be having a bad day and everyone’s having a grumpy face. Hearty breakfast burrito , soft and chewy tortilla skin filled with scrambled eggs, savoury chorizo and tomatoes tasted great in a big bite, it was well wrapped so no ingredients fell out like usual sloppy done ones.
A side of tangy salsa (although it was just onions and tomatoes) and delicious yummy roasted potatoes.

Both of the dishes's fruit side servings of watermelon slice was sweet.

Baked Eggs with Toast Soldiers is such a cute name, and it is one of the must-trys according to my friends, so I decided to give it a go. Indeed, the baked eggs was very well done, creamy and delicious, and the stick-like toasts goes well with it, especially when it's dipped into the baked eggs. The piece of watermelon at the side was a little out of place to me, and the presentation of the dish could be improved.

I think many Singaporeans are in love with brunch and western breakfasts, evidenced by the crowds at Cafe Epicurious. I think Cafe Epicurious serves up pretty decent breakfast fare, albeit not exceptionally good to warrant a special visit. The sauteed mushrooms were my personal favourite. The scrambled eggs were done quite well, with it retaining a somewhat fluffy texture. The bacons were also acceptable.

Ordered this Egg Benedict at the Epicurious Café and it's definitely not a disappointing one. The poached egg was really well made, I could see the egg yolk flowing out profusely after tearing the outer layer slightly. The texture of the poached egg was nice, it was soft and smooth. The ham was soft and chewy, not rubbery. It went really well with the bread below and the poached egg on top. The sauce on top of the poached egg has further enhanced the taste of the Egg Benedict.

Epicurious is one of the most famous places for breakfast, along with Hatched, so being a fan of eggs benedict, I had to try Epicurious. Presentation wise (what's with the plate?? could use some better looking plates) all you see is what you'll get, a piece of watermelon along with some small potatoes. Hollandaise sauce was alright, and eggs were well done. Overall a pleasant breakfast/brunch.

Another surprised. The pancakes were light, moist and fluffy. Chunks of strawberry and banana which was placed on top of them was equally good. Pour some maple syrup onto the pancake to make it perfect.

We are having a brunch, therefore what we had in mind is something that can fill our stomach.
Although we have chosen 3 choices for the meal. We didnt expect that it all comes in a plate like this - it seems like portion for one instead of 2.

So green egg is vegetable with scrambled egg placed on top of the muffin. This platter is definitely interesting, we have 2 slices of watermelon and a number of small potatoes halves on top of the 3 choices chosen.

The poached egg was cooked to perfection with the egg yolk oozing out when we cut it into half. The best way to eat it is to dipped the muffins with the egg yolk , this is what we can think of.

They are very polite when serving meals and taking order.

Ambience
Located in one of the shophouses stretch across Upper Bukit Timah Rail mall. It was especially crowded on a sunday weekend with limited parking lots. Simply loves the environment. Under the lights in the restaurant, it's a warm and inviting place to dine in and definitely a lovely way to pass your sunday morning.

Price
Kinda pricy for such small portion although the food is tantalizing. Will mark it down in my list to visit once in a blue moon.

Recommendation / Tips
Epic Breakfast for 2 is not filling for empty stomach, so order more.

Part of the appeal of Epicurious (Cafe) is the surrounding ambience. As such, outdoor seating is more plentiful than indoor seating. Decor is somewhat retro, with items from years past displayed alongside awards that Epicurious (Cafe) has won. Magazines are available for perusal too.

Epicurious (Cafe) is a popular weekend hangout and brunch place. Portions are hearty, and the food itself is mostly above average in quality and taste. The style is reminiscent of countryside / farmhouse cooking in Western countries, with simple, rustic dishes. The owners have added an Asian spin to some dishes too, so the food at Epicurious (Cafe) is actually fusion cuisine.

Epicurious (Cafe) also has a small rotating menu of dishes, created by the chef-owners which changes quite frequently and enhances the value of a repeat visit.

A delightful meal it was. The dish was served warm; the pancakes were coated with sugar sprinkles and were fluffy like a pillow, an edible one of course, and they served us a generous portion of maple syrup giving us the option to which how much we wanted to pour.

I can't say these were the best pancakes I ever had, but it was definitely above the average and possibly ones that were most value-for-money.

Love their Chilli Crab pasta, the sauce is sweet and spicy

Order this if you love Chilli Crab cos of the sauce!

However, I think their muffins are too tough.

Overall, great dining experience, great value, great taste

The Manager ( Suraj ) still worked there ( same position ) and I’m surprised he still remembered me after so many years.
Since both Western & Thai foods are available, I made a quick decision and had :
Asian Salad & A turmeric marinated chicken

Asian Salad ($10.50)
This looks more like a Japanese salad imo with slices of nori sheets and smoked salmon. The salad leaves were withered and the smoked salmon was thin and tasteles. Salad were tossed in a sesame dressing.

Turmeric marinated chicken ($14++)
The Turmeric marinated chicken was offered in the Thai menu. Personally, I am a fan of chicken meat marinated in herbs – Turmeric, Marsala, lemongrasss… you name them all!
The Chicken meat was marinated in strong turmeric and preserved black beans and grilled till perfection. The chicken meat was very tender , bursting with flavours in every bite. They serve a dipping sauce ( lime + chilli + preserved soy beans ) along with the chicken. The only complain , too much raw shredded cabbage offered ( underneath the chicken ).

I titled this post Sweet Salty Spicy simply because I went to Cafe Epicurious for S3's Thai food
The 2 eateries are interlink so we can sit anywhere and order anything from 2 menus. Anyway, both places dish out very affordable ten buck lunch on weekdays - probably one of the worst kept secret in the foodies' world. I am happy with the pricing and ecstatic that I get to eat both western and thai together!

As a fried food lover I somehow love fresh rice rolls ($2.50, extra order) rather than their fried counterparts. It's probably because the taste of mint and coriander can be more distinct in fresh rolls. We like the refreshing feel of the rolls filled with crunchy bean sprouts. However, rice roll at S3 is midget rice roll and I can pop 2 or 3 together into my mouth all at once.

Whatever goodness of the healthy rice roll was quickly compensate or rather negate by our order of Thai Red Curry with Pork Belly. I love love love this so much that I bought their red curry paste home, unable to replicate its taste then went back to S3 the following week. The pork belly was crisp, tender and well marinated. There was about 50% fats and 50% meat for each slice. Totally high quality fried pork I will say. The curry was rich, fragrant and full of complex flavours. It went perfectly well with thai jasmine rice.

I ordered the Angel Hair with Mushroom and was told to choose from non-spicy, spicy and extremely spicy. Of course, I went for the highest level. It was yummy but not that memorable. Perhaps, the red curry overshadowed everything else that day. Nevertheless, it's a simple and good pasta to try if you like yours perfectly al dente.

Do order the iced lemongrass tea no matter how exotic it sounds. The taste of lemongrass was strong enough to excite my tastebuds but not too overwhelming. A and I end up fighting over the lemongrass tea and neglected the boring iced lemon tea.

If only the Green Tea Cup Cake tasted as good as its looks. It was very, very dry. Desserts are the weakest part of the 10 buck lunch and are limited in choices. I am happy with the mains for the 10 buck lunch and A does not has a sweet tongue. If you happen to be a dessert person, go for the $18++ set instead, there are more choices for both mains and desserts. As for me, I am happy enough with my red curry.
