I have found the BEST HANDMADE NOODLE (BAN MIAN) in Singapore. Located at Whampoa Drive Market, China Whampoa Home Made Noodle has the most delicious handmade noodle with an unbeatable chili sauce. For only $3, you get a bowl of handmade noodle with minced meat, sliced mushrooms and 3 large prawns. The 3 enormous prawns are fresh and juicy and extremely value for money. The highlight of China Whampoa Home Made Noodle is the special chili sauce that is extraordinarily thick and savory. The flammable chili explodes and tantalizes the taste buds.

There were lots of hype about this ban mian and so I decided to give it a try on a sunday afternoon. You gotta be early because they sell out by 2pm sharp. When I arrived at 1.30pm, they already ran out of Mee Huen Kway, only had Ban Mian and Mee Kia left. They have many selections. You can choose to have it with pork, prawns and/or even clams. The soup was quite good, a little sweeter than the usual ban mian soup you get elsewhere. The key highlight is their home made chilli. Really uber spicy.

Expect to queue at least 15-20 min for your noodles to be served.

I must say, the soup is the most memorable thing of this dish. It tastes so good, somewhat sweet. It does not make me thirsty after the meal too.The chilli paste, wah, is very solid. Confirm plus chop it’s spicy. Not watery at all.Of course, this stall comes with a long waiting time due to many orders placed. Do not be fooled when you do not see a queue, there are a couple orders made beforehand. So don’t hesitate, try it before you have to wait for 20 minutes!

We were there at about 1pm.There was quite a crowd there waiting to order or have ordered and waiting to get their foods. There was no sight of their usual assistant but only the boss and his wife. The boss was busy taking the orders, serving bowls of noodles when ready and collecting the payments with his wife in charge of the cooking. The boss kept apologising and politely asking the customers to self-service. He could not stopped saying 'thank you' to every one of his customers that self-serviced.

I ordered the $4.00 serving of U bian with prawns. I paid first and took a seat nearby, waiting to collect my bowl of noodle when ready.

Other than the tasty broth used as base to cook this bowl of delicious U bian, their chilli is what made them apart from their competitors. The chilli was crazily hot, the spiciness level is definitely not for the faint hearted. It is even so for a chilli lover like myself, i have to restrict myself from overtaking the chilli to prevent an upset stomach. It might not be the best way to eat it but i always poured a little of the chilli into the soup. If you are a fan of their chilli then you might want to take away a bottle and have it at home as they do packed it in a small container and sell it. I think i would get one the next time.

This is one of the best handmade noodle that i ever eaten.

This is my favorite handmade noodle. I have tried many but none can out beat this one. The stock used to cook the noodle is flavorful with very fresh ingredients used especially the prawns. Their specially made chilli is really good too. I love the spiciness level. Their noodle cooked very well too.The waiting time can be very long if you come during lunch or weekend.

Though the dish looks slightly plain, the taste will definitely not deter you to think about a second bowl.

I have always wanted to try this famous handmade noodle but the long waiting time is always a turn off. This stall has scored 6/6 chopsticks for Mankansutra 2011 which means this is a 'DIE DIE MUST TRY' stall. The stall is operating from 7.00 am to 2.00 pm and closed on Monday. Today must be my luck day, i happened to be here at about 1.50 pm just after the crazy lunch hour was over. I wanted to order ban mee but it was already sold out, mee hoon kueh was out too so i only left with yu mee or yi mee. I decided to go with yu mee, i was given a choice of whether to have prawn or fish, i decided to go with prawns.

One good thing is i do not have to stand in queue to wait for my order. I took a seat and waited for about 15 minutes before uncle delivered it to my table.

I took a sip of the soup first, it managed to WOW me somehow. It was a clear soup, rather savory with a nice sweetness obtained from ikan belis and soya bean. And, it came with 2 slightly bigger than average prawns hidden underneath the yu mee together with 2 minced meat balls and some leafy vegetable. The dried ikan belis added flavor to the soup.

I realised they mixed the red cut chillies with their special chilli sauce. Their special chilli sauce is rather hot, it is even so for me. It added a nice punch to the noodle though. I guess they must have a certain fan for their special chilli sauce as they do sell them packed in a container. I would like to commend their efforts in ensuring the freshness of their ingredients. I was amazed after tasting the 2 very fresh prawns. It is definitely value for money for just $3.00.

So, if you have time and do not mind long waiting time then you should give this famous handmade noodle stall a try. They do have the dry version too, and you can have it with fish maw, abalone or clams.

This has been the best handmade noodle that i ever tried.

Strongly recommended.
