The food served were fresh especially the complementary tiger prawn! However the quality of xiao long bao is not as good. When i first visited this buffet place, they served really awesome, juicy, pipping hot xiao long bao. On my subsequent visits, the xiao long bao seem to get smaller and very dry. The sichuan soup base is one that you must try! Its really good for people who likes spicy food.

OMG! I finally had the chance to try out the unlimited xiao long bao and steamboat buffet at crystal jade @ Holland V. Was there recently on a fri night to celebrate one of the girl birthday! We have made 1 week advance reservation and really looking forward for the buffet!

I have actually 'prepare' myself from the beginning of the day - have actually 'starve' myself for the unlimited xiao long bao buffet!! haha (Joking). Anyway, as a typical singaporean and was feeling really hungry, we have basically ordered almost all the dishes at one go. We have ordered the steamboat dishes, xiao long bao and char siew bao. As the steamboat will need some time to cook, so we actually started off with the 'dim sum' first - xiao long bao and char siew bao.

The xiao long bao was yummy, but maybe not as nice as those from ding tai feng. As the char siew bao, the bao was soft and fluffy and with the hong kong style char siew, it was delicious.

I like their steamboat. We have ordered 2 different soup base, one chicken soup and one spicy hot pot. Both soup were nice. The ingredients were all rather fresh.

As for the desserts, I have tried the gui hua jelly and beancurd. The gui hua jelly was quite nice, not too sweet and the gui hua taste was quite nice. As for the beancurd, personally I dont really like it because it has a almond taste. None of my friend like it too. We prefer the normal beancurd. Tried to order 'normal' beancurd without the almond taste. But too bad, they only provide almond flavour beancurd. But one thing to mention, the texture of the beancurd was rather good. It was quite smooth and soft.

(: as you can see from the photos on my blog, besides an unlimited supply of xiao long baos....
...a complimentary serving of 100g of tiger prawns per guest...
...a whole lot of MEAT! beautiful thin slices pork and beef, which cooked really fast and were wonderfully fresh and yummy. they were full of fats though, but that was what made them so yummy i guess?
other stuff we had were a whole lot of mushrooms, different kinds of balls (like fishballs and salmon balls - loved the salmon balls!), dumplings (the guo tie kind), and just lots and lots of meat xD i really loved it! apparently the chicken is not so good though. so we didn't order it. there are also the intestines and pig skin kind of stuff which we didn't really order. we also tried a couple of the appetizers - the cucumber with garlic tasted like something you would have with chicken rice, and we also had the preserved egg with japanese tofu which i thought was not bad!
the xiao long baos were absolutely yummy of course (: beautifully folded with a delectable broth inside. and because the sauce was self-service and came in bowls, i had an awesome amount of vinegar to dip my xiao long bao in. i practically drowned it in vinegar
and i discovered that meats and lots of other stuff go really well with peanut sauce! i would have never imagined. but knowing how i love peanut butter so much i can't believe i discovered this sauce only now

the desserts were really awfully disappointing though! O.O it's really quite sad when desserts are bad cos its always nice to end of the meal on a sweet note! but bad desserts just somehow make the rest of the meal less enjoyable. we tried two kinds of jelly, im not sure what the names are but it's something along the lines of a 'crystal jelly' and 'red bean jelly'. i didn't try the crystal jelly - the looks on my friends' faces after they ate the jelly was enough to deter me. the red bean jelly was not that bad, it tasted like jellyfied potong ice cream. but the 'tauhuay' was really really, erm, weird. it was not tauhuay. more like....tofu? it was just plain. with a thicker texture than tauhuay. it wasn't even the silken tofu kind! more like somewhere in between toufu and taukwa. O.O err? not good.
for the soup, you have up to two choices - we chose the Pork Bone Soup and something else (which just tasted the same to me haha). initially we wanted the dan dan soup, but apparently its really oily, so keep this in mind if you want to order it? and there are the other spicy soups as well. yum! (:

Dim sum was delicious, Xiao long bao especially, that's what they are famous for. Once you bite, the juice just spirt out, like a melted chocolate. Quite expensive, good for family experience, especially those who likes chinese cuisines. Service was good, very prompt. Waiting time was ok. The ambience was soothing, very chinese style, typical chinese restaurant.

Naturally, when I heard that Crystal Jade has an outlet that offers unlimited xiao long bao, I was attracted to the idea of relishing baskets of it. But I did not rush there immediately, and it was only until recently that I went there for the first time.

Of course I made reservations and when I reached, I was taken to the 2nd storey for the buffet. The place was quite cramped, since there were a few tables catered for large groups. Sauces were displayed on a table so you have to take them yourself.

Although the main highlight is the Xiao Long Bao, I had to start off with the steamboat first. There were the usual mushrooms, yam, meat, seafood and vegetables for the steamboat and a variety of sauces. Steamboat is average and makes me full. So as I ate the steamboat items and other food such as the piping hot Char Siew Bun, I ended up finishing only 1 basket of Xiao Long Bao. I wanted to attempt breaking some sort of record, perhaps by clearing off at least 5 baskets, but failed.

As for their desserts, I tried the red bean pudding and beancurd. The beancurd is served differently from other places as it is mixed with brown syrup. Smooth, soft and reasonable level of sweetness.

Nevertheless, the xiao long bao was great, skin is very thin and the soup inside is very tasty. We ate 4 Long each and just cannot get enough of it, it is simply too delicious. The steamboat is good too, luckily we had 4 people so we did not have any problem finishing up all the meats.

The Gui Hua jelly is my favourite, not too sweet, very soft and it melts in your mouth.

Great place to go for a yummy buffet plus free flow xiao long bao. Xiao long bao lovers what are u waiting for?!?!

La mian and Xiao Long Baos are such comfort food. Whenever I feel down, I'd try to think about the trick xlb could do after each and every tiny bun fills my tummy. That Friday evening after driving lessons saw me over at Holland V's Crystal Jade. Normally I'd choose to dine at Ngee Ann City's outlet as it is more convinient for me, I've to say one con of eating there is that they compromise space for the possibilty of more customers. Meaning they'd 'squeeze' more table space availability for more customers at an expense of the other customers who are only half-way through their meals. In other words, to be straight-forward, imagine having to chew on your food with the neighbouring table just a palm length away, and I mean literally. Unfortunately for me, just when I thought would be different, the same thing happened at Holland V's outlet again. It was a busy evening, the staff seated us at one of the tables near the kitchen and followed by a declined request for a move to the table-for-2 by the glass window.

However if you could(or try) get pass that, you'd understand that the food is really good. Generous portion of La Mian, about 3 times the portion of what you'd get at most noddle stalls. I like the Sze Chuan Style La Mian, it's what I'd usually order, sweet and sour with a spicy oomph. Minced pork are of not-so-fatty quality too, tender and flavourful. Chopped mini pieces of tao kua also add to the overall.

The xlbs come in longs of 5. One long all to myself satisfies me enough. Each time I'll always look forward to the soup in every xlb, it's my favourite part of it. Once I've drank the soup I'll dunk it into vinegar and topped off a little chilli flakes. So heavenly, I love.

I've also tried other items on the menu such as shredded pancake, pork dumpling, char siew pau and others. Not bad. But of course, since it's Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao, my aim of dining there is to always have la mian and xlb, they never fail to make me smile.
