Fish Mart Sakuraya is an authentic Japanese dining concept where they set aside a dining space at the fish mart for shoppers to enjoy fresh, raw fish known as Sashimi as well as other cooked Japanese delicacies before / after their shopping. For Sashimi lovers, this place should be on the top of the "To-Visit" list - where else could one get fresh sashimi at prices way lower than ordering Sashimi platters in Japanese restaurants?

Set in a very simple and clean-cut setting, complete with bright lights, wooden square tables and earthly tones of beige and white, this restaurants offers a very comfortable and no-fuss dining atmosphere.

If one prefers cooked dishes or Sushi, the servers would take your orders at your table. For the Sashimi lovers, pop over to the glass showcases displaying a wide selection of raw fish and seafood in different cuts and grammage - select the ones you would like to eat.

They're packed in styrofoam boards and plastic wrap, like the kind one gets at supermarkets, so hand them to the counter staff - they will process, cut and serve nicely on plates to be savoured by the diners.

We love the fresh Sashimi tremendously - sweet, juicy and tender - regardless of salmon, tuna, squid, shrimps or swordfish. See the tantalizing thick slices of raw fish arranged nicely, tempting the tongues and luring the tummies.

We also ordered an assortment of other items together - such as the Agadeshi Tofu - silken tofu cubes coated with potato starch, fried to a light golden hue and served hot, in a hot tentsuyu sauce (Japanese soy sauce) broth. Usually there would be fine sprinklings of spring onions and bonito flakes atop the meltingly-soft tofu cubes.

We also had the Breaded Fried Oysters - crispy and not greasy at all, so it tasted great.

If you want to order sashimi here, first you can do your marketing at the "Fish Mart". Choose whatever fish/ seafood (nicely sealed, with clearly labelled price tag) you want from the chilled case and pass them to the chef and he will slice the fish and serve to you what you had ordered in a nice presented plate of sashimi. The sashimi here are very fresh. We ordered our favourite selections - salmon and swordfish. Besides the sashimi, we ordered tempura, potato salad, seafood miso soup, agadash

Total cost around $50 for two. The meal was overall quite satisfying.

The kitchen is those open-concept type and the dining place, is a bit small which is just beside the kitchen area. After you meal, you may want to shop at their mini-mart which sell a wide varieties of Jap tidbits.

Here's their californa maki which I totally love.

It will never go wrong when we eat at Sakuraya. Services are okay, friendly and the service staff will also recommend you dishes if you don't know what to order

My 1st visit here even though i had seen it quite a few times when i shopped at Marine Parade. California Hand Roll and Ikura Hand Roll : Generous serving of the fillings. Cha Soba : One of the best that i had tried. Mild Green tea taste and it was quite spongy. Mixed Sashimi - Salmon, swordfish and flat fish - Thick & juicy. Avocado Eel Sushi - Can be better.Overall, the food was served fast and fresh!

Besides really good and fresh sashimi, sakuraya also sells a wide variety of japanese products. I especially like the snacka offered here! Although japanese snacks are more pricey than regular ones, the taste is really superior. They sell all sorts of crackers and I especially like japanese pocky crackers which are really light and crisp and come in all sorts of flavours especially the super delicious chocolate ones mmm

Previously hidden in the corner at the basement of Parkway, they have recently moved into their new location 3 shops away from the old one. There's a wide spread of sashimi and they have it in diff cuts and sizes for you to choose from, depending on your fancies of the day. Not a big fan of Tofu, I actually like the one they serve here and I love the clam soup too (unfortunately, they don't have this on a daily basis! )

Their toufu and miso soup is uber delicious as well!

This is the place you should go if you are craving for good sashimi.

I'll usually spend about $20+/ person.
My usuals would be a Salmon, Tuna, Swordfish sashimi platter + a plate of tofu + a bowl of rice.
