Ichiban Sushi is a casual japanese restaurant and was quite famous with a number of outlets in Singapore. Kurobuta Cheese Curry - Sliced black pork and cheese with Japanese curry, miso, rice and fruit. Kurobuta was served in a mini pot sizzling over the fire and smells good as the curry fragrance diffused. Meat was thinly sliced and chewy. However it seems like the pot of curry had not much difference even though cheese was added.

Chicken Shogayaki Wazen - Chicken with ginger sauce, tempura soft shell crab, chawanmushi, rice, miso and fruit. I like the ginger tasting chicken as it was coated with sweet savoury sauce and meat was tender.

The Chawanmushi that comes with the set was well flavoured with its chicken stock and ingredients like mushrooms, fishcakes and gingo nuts were found.

Beef udon $13.90the udon's texture was not hard and well cooked. It was quite thick. The taste was also light, and not salty nor sweet. The thin slices of beef were not many so it might be a little expensive. cha soba and chicken set $13.90the portion of the cha soba was quite big and very filling. The mini rice bowl chicken don was nice too. The gravy was not salty. Overall, the plain rice with the gravy, chicken and egg combined very well to give a good taste. It is very appetizing.

Kaisen Anakake Nabe: $23.90This set consists of Salmon Nabe (a type of soup-base), crabmeat salad, chawamushi, rice, soup, and a beautifully shaped fried fish cake. I like the crabmeat salad the most out of the whole set! haha! The salmon nabe was not too bad, salmon was a little too thin for my liking and as it was about$25 in total, I expected a bigger cut. I couldn't identify what was on the rice (purple flakes) but i think it's some sort of sour ingredient? Tasted a bit funny.

I love how the set meal is always this lunch portion where I share almost share amongst 3 of us and we only need to add 1-2 more side dishes.

Mermaid Tail: $4.20
I felt that this wasn't really 'creative' as it was just tempura prawn wrapped in seaweed with some chilli flakes and a blop of mayonnaise to make it prettier. Nothing fancy about it. You can give it a miss unless you're a tempura lover and like tempura prawns a lot.

Sea Volcano: $4.20
This little sushi had the most ingredient out of the 3 albeit its tiny size. It has avocado, scallop, salmon roe some green soft vegetable in it and garnished with parsley and cod roe. I like the burst of different flavours in my mouth and was pleasantly surprised by the successful mix of ingredients.

Out of these 3, I especially liked the Inari Treasure Chest the most! I also like the names they came up with for the different sushi, feels like a sea-themed sushi! Creative!

I can't remember what this sushi is called but it's a great choice for vegetarians. It is basically carrot, cucumber and corn sticks wrapped in sushi rice. This sushi is called Golden Catch. It is a combination of dory fish, potato, tartar sauce and lettuce. This is so yummy! It has a coating around the sushi which is made up of tiny crispy potato sticks. So crunchy and soft at the same time. It's a must-have every time I visit!

I ordered a combination set meal which is Maru Cheese Chicken while my friend ordered Sliced Pork and add-on to a Salmon Rice Bowl! Their combination set meals were really worth the price as every meal came with a side dish, miso soup, chawanmushi and fruits! As for my friend, his meal came with salmon sashimi, miso soup and fruits! Their salmon sashimi was fresh and yummy! We also ordered ice-cream tempura as it sounded nice! Haha! It turned out to be okay only but still not too bad! Would appreciate if the ice cream wasn't that frozen! All in all, enjoyed my lunch here on a late Tuesday afternoon! No waiting time was required FYI!

The parents and I ordered 2 sets of lunch to share between 3 people. it was extremely filling! I don't know how 1 person can finish one whole meal alone. Because the variety is quite broad and the portion is quite huge, I find them to be value for money. I will definitely be going back again! The hot pot miso soup was a little salty though. The hot green tea was quite bland and the hot stone seafood was so-so but over-all, the parents like it better than Sakae Sushi. worth a try!

The beef was in generous amount that I couldn't finish eating! However the service wasn't too good as there was no plain water given to us and when we asked for plain water, the waitress gave us the bill instead! And when she gave us the bill, then she realised that she had not given us any water! But since we were leaving, we told her it was okay.

This is a complimentary gyoza dish (redeemable by a loyalty card system that Ichiban has, will elaborate on this below). This dish is not fantastic and tastes like your ordinary gyoza. However, it comes with a special sauce that is slightly spicy which adds an unexpected kick to the gyoza. Stuffed mostly with vegetables, the pork filling is made up mostly of fats (the health-conscious might not like it).

This Hotate Wazen is from the restaurant's Festive Delights Menu ($21.90). It comes with scallop with mushroom and tofu in house special sauce, grilled cuttlefish ball with spicy mentai sauce & cheese, salmon sashimi, chawanmushi, rice, miso soup and fruit. The scallop comes raw so you have to cook it for about 15-20 mins and make sure that is fully cooked before consumption. We did not know this and the server didn't inform us as well. We had to ask if the scallop was cooked and only then did one of the waiters tell us that we had to cook them. I thought that this was very careless and dismissive of the servers as it would be a torture to your tummy if you ate raw seafood that was meant to be cooked before consumption. But overall, this dish was nice and satisfying. Cheese fanatics would love this as the cuttlefish balls are drizzled with grilled cheese and the special sauce that the scallops come in also has cheese in it.

The Tartar Tori Wazen Set ($19.90) comes with a crispy chicken with Japanese tartar sauce & cheese squid with ginger sauce, salmon sashimi, chawanmushi, rice, miso soup and fruit. The chicken cutlet was as fried chicken should be, fluffy and tender at the right parts. The tartar sauce can be a little overpowering and by the time I was about halfway through the chicken, I was rather sick of the taste. Combining squid with cheese and ginger sauce seems odd but surprisingly my taste buds did not protest at this combination.

These are parts of the Spicy Gyu Imo Wazen ($21.90). It comes with beef with potato in spicy garlic miso sauce, crab stick and cream cheese wrap, salmon sashimi with spicy sauce & mayonnaise, chawanmushi, rice, miso soup and fruit. I liked the beef as it was soft and juicy and the sauce goes really well with plain rice. Not a huge fan of the sashimi with mayonnaise as I thought that there was too much mayo around. The crab stick with cream cheese wrap was innovative but did not leave much of an impression.

This is a complimentary green tea ice cream with red bean and glutinous rice balls. Normal green tea ice cream that you can get anywhere else. Not fantastic.

The service at IMM is not great. We were a party of 6 and had to wait up to half an hour for a table (8-8.30pm). The staff's allocation of customers to their seats were not the most efficient and we saw that many tables that can seat 2 were left unoccupied. By the time we got our food and started dining, it was almost 9. There was a trainee staff who was rather unfriendly and did not attempt a smile throughout her service. Someone should teach her how to achieve a nice smoky-eyed makeup effect. Since she did not have a smile on her face at all, she looked like she had been punched. A scheme to keep the customers coming back is the loyalty card system which allows you to redeem free food/vouchers during some of your visits. Just visit more to get more stamps and you can enjoy some free dishes (like the gyoza dish). You can also get a free spin on the wheel of fortune when your card is filled up (kids find this really fun). Prizes include $20-$80 cash vouchers. You get a chance to participate in a lucky draw where you stand a chance to win a trip to Tokyo! I would visit Ichiban for their food but would go earlier next time to secure a table at a more appropriate timing. I would also recommend that 2 people share one set (especially if you're a small-eater) as there is just too much food in one set.

I really like sushi and I really like cheese, so I would obviously like cheese sushi. I went to Ichiban Sushi finding this special type of sushi, cheese sushi. Instead of seaweed, it was cheese wrapping the sushi. The fillings are ham, egg and cucumber. It was topped with seaweed and was really yummy. It was tasty and it wasn't that salty. I loved it so much that I actually took 2 plates of it. I will definitely eat it again sometime soon.

All of a sudden, I love beef. I eat beef wherever I go, if I can. So, seeing that there was beef udon in Ichiban Sushi, I ordered it immediately. When it came, I was quite eager to dig into my food. The beef wasn't tough, but it was that tender, it was normal. It was quite a good choice to choose that. However, the portion was a little too much for me and I couldn't finish it. It is a meal that everyone should consider getting. Filling, tasty and worth it. Definitely worth the try.

There are a total of 4 different flavours, green tea, red bean, mango and strawberry. The green tea and red bean ones cost $3 per box while the mango and strawberry flavlours are a little more expensive at $3.20. The green tea mochi is very fragrant, the green tea paste within the mochi is very smooth and not too sweet. The mochi skin on the other hand is very soft and slightly chewy which gives it some texture. I loved it very much. The mochi is best eaten on the day of purchase, though I kept it in the fridge for one day, the mochi skin is still very soft and did not harden.
