You know you're in for a chocolate overdose when you see this plate. This is the warm chocolate cake and the plating is very well done. You get a shot glass with some whipped cream, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a dish of raspberry sauce. The chocolate cake oozes lava chocolate when you cut into it, and you even get more melted chocolate to pour over! Overall, a nice dessert to SHARE. If you eat it all by yourself, prepare for a sore throat.

Before I go on to review the desserts, I have to say I agree with OpenRicer Bern 100% about the chaos going on in the menu. I probably stared at it for 10 minutes before giving up and asking the waitress which one was the choc lava cake. Omg... bad bad bad!

The Chocolate Pizza was freakin' amazing. I'm not a fan of marshmallows but it added a nice, gooey yet light touch to the chocolate-heavy pizza.

I really liked the presentation of the choc lava cake here - I'd really give it an 'A+'! It's like there was something different on each part of the plate, from the container with chocolate sauce (tooooo cute) to the mini choc shake somewhere in the middle. The lava cake itself was incredible. It wasn't too sweet and the consistency of the cake was just right. I had no problem finishing this on my own - which means a lot because I usually have to share such a dessert due to its intense flavour.

I left the place feeling happy and satisfied. Oh, and the smell of chocolate and butter was on my clothes too. IT WAS AWESOME!

Browsing through the menu, I got irritated with all of the fanciful names and lack of proper description of each of the menu items. Plus, the lack of organization of the menu really annoyed the c*** out of me. That's the one thing I never really noticed and took for granted about menus, that there's always some form of categorization of the various dishes so you know where to look for each category and the difference between each of the items in each category. The management really needs a crash course on how to categorize the various items in their menu. I had a very hard time going through the very confusing menu.

We had:

1) Melting Chocolate Truffle Heart Cake & Shake ($16) was served with vanilla bourbon ice-cream, red berries and an iced milk chocolate shot. You couldn't tell from the menu that this was actually a chocolate lava cake, and we had to ask the waitress for the equivalent of a chocolate lava cake because we couldn't seem to find one on the menu despite poring through it several times! That said, this was delicious, but very very VERY rich. Good thing the berries provided a tart contrast to the richness of the warm chocolate cake. Would have preferred a hint of bitterness to the chocolate cake for a nuanced sweetness

2) Hot Chocolate ($7.50) The HugMug is adorable, it doesn't have a handle, you're meant to hold it with both hands, to keep your hands warm. The hot chocolate was a more balanced richness, and creamy and smooth, a comforting delight meant to warm your insides

The biscuits were rather soft and hard to dip into the chocolate without it crumbling everywhere.

The experience was decent, but I don't see myself going back as a regular for this.
There are some other dishes that looked interesting but decisions would be more easily made if there more photos. The smell of chocolate can be very alluring but it's not a constant smell in the restaurant.

Recently, i decided to succumb to my temptation and be overwhelmed by the sweet endings installed for me. Flipping through the chocolatey menu, i decided to try something different instead of the usual chocolate lava cake or chocolate drizzle waffles. Hence i decided to go for the granny smith with toffee walnut waffles drizzled with caramel sauce. Haha, it was my little way of comforting myself at least im having some fruit and nut in my diet.

The waffles were moist and dense, it wasn't the crunchy or crispy kind of waffles you get at Gelare, it has basically alot of bite to it. The tartness of the granny smiths went really well with the crumble and caramel sauce, as it evens out the sweetness of it, thus giving a nice blend of sweet and sourness to the whole ensemble. The vanilla ice-cream was nothing special, but with it, the waffles won't seem complete. All in all it was a refreshing yet filling dessert, do share if you aren't a very big eater or just had a heavy dinner.

After trying the chocolate fondue at haagen dazs, I had high expectations of Max Brenner's but I was very disappointed. The second bowl contained a few pieces of 3 marshmellows, 3 brownies and 3 cookies. That was all we got for the hefty price we paid. Definitely not worth it! 4/10

Service wise, staff took a long time to serve us as well as to take our orders, despite the fact there were not many customers around.

Would stick to the waffles/crepes/milkshakes which seem to do more justice.

I wanted to try something different as I usually order the waffle. I ordered the chocolate crepe.

The dish was very nicely garnished. I personally feel that the service at esplanade is better than the one at vivocity. The dish was served with fresh strawberries, a plate of small chocolate balls, vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup that was served in a conical shaped glass. The crepe was topped with nuts.

The crepe was really nice. Soft and rich. The chocolate was not bitter, just how i like it. I would definitely recommend this dish.

The presentation this time round is slightly different. It comes with a wooden tray that wasn't present during my previous few trips there. The drink used to come with the milk inside the burner but this time, it came in the container and we get to pour it into the burner ourselves. My partner didn't like it and he said that he don't find anything special about the chocolate drink. But I find the presentation really interesting!

We finished it within FEW MINS the other dessert was a crepe with banana, strawberry, nut and Vanilla ice-cream. The crepe was really soft. They actually stuffed it with banana. We also ordered WAFFLES with banana. I was thinking they would actually serve 1 waffle but they served 2 huge waffles. with a banana sliced into 2 with chocolate and caramel sauce. ALL THIS WAS WORTH THE MONEY. I ENJOYED EVERY BITE OF EACH DESSERT. Those who hasn't tried the dessert in MAX BRENNER. Please go and try it out.

Max Brenner has been on my Temptations Page for the longest time. It’s like hanging a thread tied with your favorite food, swinging it in your face. The smell lingers, the eyes hypnotized – so near yet so far! Finally, finally, Esplanade had all their shops closed, leaving only Max Brenner open. Oh, just kidding. Anyways, it was between a few places for desserts and I’m glad we at least went in.

Max Brenner – Chocolate by the Bald Man. That is what they call themselves. Probably because one of the owners is bald. I haven’t any idea how well the marketing for that tagline has gone. Anyhows, it’s definitely unique and one of a kind.

It isn’t necessarily big. Nor is the Chocolate Bar a very comfortable (though it can be cozy) place to stay for long and enjoy the chocolate. But I guess what sets this potential weight-gainer restaurant apart from the rest is its theme. Unlike the Chocolate Buffets in Fullerton Hotel / Marina Bay Sands, which has a classy and elegance touch to it, Max Brenner has dashes of artsy fartsy feel.

A Chocolate Love Story. For sure, they have cooked up quite some stories for their chain. I love how they have come up with statements relating to chocolates. Here goes.

Chocolate is not just about taste. It’s a symbol of different aspects in our lives – of romance, of sensuality, of decadence. These aspects actually create the new chocolate culture of Max Brenner.

Don’t you just feel blissful and blessed already

Chocolate Pizza with Banana Slices ($13.50++) :: This caught my attention while flipping through the pages of drooling-good chocolate dishes. They have items ranging from hot chocolates to pizzas to crepes. I was so torn as to what to order. If not that we already have a full meal before, I’d have insisted on having a bigger piece of Max Brenner on my first trip there. Indeed, it didn’t disappoint. You don’t have to worry about it being not as chocolatey as you thought, neither do you need to worry about not having enough of it. Best way of eating here is probably ordering many different items and sharing it throughout with your group of friends. That way you wouldn’t get too much on a specific one – you know how chocolates can play with you.
Fun fact: The Chocolate Pizza is featured in the US TV Show, Food Network’s ‘The Best Thing I Ever Ate / Pizza’.

Interestingly, they are certified kosher too. Probably because they originate from Israel.

I’ll be sure to be back any time soon. And as and when that happens, I’ll most promptly update more of it here. So far, I’ve been more than satisfied.
