It looks very pretty, decorated and all but actually tastes quite meh.. The strawberries were of the frozen variety, not the fresh kind. So i didn't quite like it. Anyway there is a surprise at the bottom of the dessert, bits of chocolate cake (thats my guess anyway
) which is pretty damn awesome. Anyway if you don't want something too cloying or overwhelmingly sweet and yet still has a strong chocolate taste, this is the dessert for you!

Have been wanting to try this Japanese cafe , st Marc cafe at Vivocity because they have green tea desserts in there. And I ordered green tea Mt fuji, green tea crossaint and a sweet bread. They were nice when I requested to have the crossaint heated up because it seems like it was on the shelf for quite some time? Haha. The Mt Fuji ice dessert was average because the portion didn't really justified for its price and i find the crossaint a little disappointing as I thought it would taste nicer..

If you do come here, I suggest the Chocolate Chococro ($2.40 each), which is their signature item! Chococro is made of best blend of Ghana Beans and finest Ecuador beans, wrapped with crispy rich buttery flavor croissant dough.

They also have the Green Tea and the Strawberry version, and I have to say that although I'm not a chocolate lover, but it tastes the best out of all three flavours, to me.

Check out the Chicken Egg Salsa ($3.30)! It reminds me of S Korea's egg bread. haha.

Their cups have 3 sizes (hot drinks) - I like the medium sized cup as that's really just the right amount. Especially for the green tea latte, because the green tea taste is quite strong and thick, you may not want to order the largest cup.

They will issue you a buzzer so you don't have to stand around the counter to wait for your order. Once ready, the buzzer will buzz (duh.) and just head to the counter to collect your food/drinks.

But I loved the Little Fuji! The crispy pastry is topped by what looks like a mini snow mountain of vanilla ice-cream on it and drizzled with caramel sauce! It was very good.

Apparently St. Marc Cafe originated from Japan with more than 300 outlets in Japan. This Japanese with French influence café promise to 'provide good quality service, vibrant atmosphere, freshly brewed coffee and other varieties of drinks, and freshly-baked breads for a reasonable price.' Their most popular product is Chococro.

Chococro is made from the best blend of Ghana and Ecuador Chocolate beans, wrapped with crispy rich buttery flavour Croissant dough. Unfortunately, Chococro - $2.40 (& White Chococro - $2.60) do not send my tongue wagging. The dough is not flaky, but it seems to be a little stale, the chocolate is just average, although it has good balance and not overly sweet. Maybe it was near closing time when we get there, or you can blame it on the recent rise of artisan bakery in Singapore, that expose us to better croissant base products compare to St Marc. (Chococros rating 6/10)

The coffee are produced from a fully automated machine. The latte ($4.50) is average, diluted with very airy frothed milk. The latte that I tasted in 7-11 in Taiwan is better than this (rating 6/10). St Marc hot chocolate ($6) fare better than their latte, it has a nice blend and a good balance of sweetness and creaminess. (rating 7/10).

However, what is worth your stomach space here. Little Fuji ($6.30). This combination of soft serve vanilla ice cream with brown butter Danish is just excellent. The Danish is very soft and flaky, while the soft serve ice cream has a perfect sweetness, texture and flavour. Beautiful. (Rating 8.5/10)

For something with green tea flavour and chewy, Miyako ($8.20) is a good option. Green Tea Ice cream, with Soft serve vanilla ice cream, mochi and a dollop of red bean. It is refreshing and it has most of the traditional Japanese desserts ingredients and most of the texture are well represented here. Yum Yum! (Rating 8/10)

The other positive factor about St Marc is their vibrant atmosphere. From far away, the cafe seems to invite you to come in and spend some time in the cafe. As promise, St Marc does provide a friendly and good service to a certain extend, most of the stuff is basically self service.

Overall, St Marc Cafe really deliver on its promise of good service and vibrant atmosphere. Their Chococro is not to my liking, however there are plenty of other breads and desserts that are worth coming back for. So if you are at Vivocity or Marina Square, give this place a try. Cheers!!

Full Saint Marc Cafe review here: http://ivanteh-runningman.blogspot.sg/2014/03/saint-marc-cafe.html

Despite the Italian sounding name, Saint Marc Cafe is actually a Japanese patisserie utilizing French pastry making techniques. Established in 1998 in Tokyo, Saint Marc Cafe has since expanded worldwide, serving a vast variety of pastries, dessert, and drinks at affordable prices.

Ambience at Saint Marc Cafe is casual minimalist, with decor consisting of several small pictures. The surrounding is open, with warm hues making the interior seem inviting. A large display cabinet outside draws attention, though the fake Japanese display is rather un-lifelike.

Saint Marc Cafe believes in self-service, you'll have to queue and place orders at the counter, then collect when ready. Thumbs up for their quick order fulfillment though, you'll rarely have to wait longer than 10 minutes, even despite peak periods.

Saint Marc Cafe specialises in desserts, namely; cakes, parfaits, waffles, and pastries. Made with French pastry techniques, and influenced by French, Italian, and Japanese, their menu is a fusion of east and west flavours. To accompany these, they have a good selection of drinks, especially their coffee which is made fresh daily.

The Yamitsuki Dog is literally translated as 'Addictive Dog'. Featuring a long, juicy chicken cheese sausage baked inside a soft bread roll, the Yamitsuki Dog is enhanced with spicy black pepper and sharp yellow mustard, making each bite a kick.

The signature house speciality is the Chococro Chocolate, featuring a bitter-sweet chocolate made from a blend of Ghana and Ecuador cacao beans, stuffed within a crisp, flaky, buttery croissant that shatters when bit. Lovely and satisfying.

On the bright side, desserts lovers will love it here. There are quite a variety of beverages, breads and pastries, and desserts here, such as the chococros, parfaits, and ice cream! We were spoilt for choice as there were so many items that we wanted to try, but in the end, we just went with a few of their signature items instead.

White Chococro ($2.60) & Chococro ($2.40)
Both Chococro are smaller than what is expected for the price, but they are quite a treat to have. The croissants are flaky and crispy with a rich buttery flavour and the chocolate filling for the original Chococro is quite rich and slightly bittersweet to taste. The White Chococro is slightly sweeter due to the icing powder which add a touch of sweetness to the croissant, but I personally prefer the original Chococro for the richer chocolate taste.

Choco Banana Fuji ($7.30)
A perfect combination of soft serve ice cream on freshly baked butter danish pastry topped with smooth chocolate sauce! The soft serve ice cream is smooth, creamy and milky while the delicious butter danish pastry is very crispy on the outside but fluffy and buttery on the inside. This dessert is also topped with banana slices as well, which are a little too sweet for both of us, but otherwise we both find this Fuji pretty good!

Matcha Latte ($6.00)
The Matcha Latte here is quite thick and creamy and I find the aroma and taste of fresh milk quite strong. It is just the right amount of sweetness for me though, with a tinge of bitterness and the distinct taste of matcha!

On the whole, we find the food here pretty good based on the few we had. The latte is fresh and aromatic while the chococro and fuji are sweet and delightful. I'd definitely love to return again to try the other desserts on their menu, like the parfaits.

Prices are quite standard for a cafe, but there is a further 10% e-coupon discount if you sign up as a member by going to a link scanned from a QR code at a sign near the counter. Service is quite decent and despite the queue, the staff remained friendly and helpful with our queries regarding the 10% sign-up discount. I only regretted that we didn't dine in earlier when we had the chance to, when the place is less hectic and the ambience more relaxing to chill out in.

They have this pastry called the Chocoro. It's basically a croissant with various types of cream filling in them - from custard to chocolate and even red bean. The chocolate cream was rather rich and not as sweet, and it paired up really well with the Matcha Latte.

I have been reading good reviews about their signature product and I jumped at the chance of ordering their Chococro when I passed by. At $2.40 a piece, the petite conical shaped pasty seemed pricey. But tasting is believing- each bite of the croissant reveals its crispy, buttery taste. The chocolate core inside is of a nice bittersweet taste- evidence of use of quality dark chocolate ingredient. The chococro is enjoyable and definitely goes well with a nice cup of coffee!

The Matcha Latte is available in 3 different sizes ($5, $6, $7). It is listed as of one recommended drink at the counter. It tastes strong in matcha taste, but not as thick as Starbucks' version of Green Tea Latte. It is quite sweet on its own, so there is no need of additional sugar.

A must try dessert in Saint Marc is its Little Fuji ($6.30), which has been featured on Sept month's "epicure". It is a Danish topped with vanilla soft serve ice cream and caramel drizzle. The hot Danish tastes crispy and buttery on its own. Coupled with the cold soft serve, it is heavenly combination of hot and cold.

Although the staffs are quite busy, tables are cleared quite fast. Seated in comfortable armchair, it is quite relaxing with just a cuppa. Overall nice food, but can be a bit noisy.
