This brand needs no introduction but having recently visited their Bugis+ outlet after my last dinning experience with them which has been many years back, I was equally surprised at the quality of the buffet vis-a-vis its price.

During these hard-times, buffets are no longer the same. We have to select the food which is then delivered to us. Service was good as the items were delivered very quickly. The soups are still the same as I use to remember it - tasty! Kudos to Sukiya for being able to retain the quality of food.

I filled myself with countless servings of small and large cubes of beef. Didn't find the pork slice that great but the beef more than made up for it. Vegetables were fresh and service was good at this outlet.

Sukiya has never been known for its spread of its buffer offerings but what can we expect for this price level? I thoroughly enjoyed my dinning experience and I told myself that I will be back more often.

Operating under the Creative Eateries Group of companies, Suki-Ya is their Japanese hot pot buffet concept, offering unlimited all-you-can-eat meats and vegetables for a reasonable price. In particular, Suki-Ya, as its name suggests, specialises in the Japanese style Shabu-Shabu and Sukiyaki, both of which consist of boiling thin slices of meat. Prices are similar to other buffets, budget about SGD $37 per person for a meal here.

Ambience at Suki-Ya is distinctly Japanese, with decor resembling a Japanese guest house. Furniture and wall panelling is wooden, with distinct Japanese grid squares. Traditional lanterns and sake casks line the entrance. The only break from the overall ambience at Suki-Ya is the Healthy Salad Bar, which looks like a typical buffet spread.

Service at Suki-Ya is good, but not outstanding. Staff are efficient are taking orders, as well as serving, clearing dirty or empty plates, and are friendly and polite. However, it's difficult to attract their attention during peak periods, and they also forgot several of my orders during my visit. Bill payment is also self-service, at the cashier. But I like that staff are able to make recommendations on the various soup bases.

Food at Suki-Ya is buffet style, with staff serving you the selection of meats you order, while vegetables and non-meat items are self service at the Healthy Bar. The only meats available are beef, chicken, or pork, all thinly sliced, with a noticable absence of fish and seafood. The salad bar is decent, with a wide range of vegetables, which are often replaced with other varieties of items when it runs out. As for soup bases, I suggest getting the traditional Japanese soups, for authenticity.

I particularly like the Spicy Miso Tare Sauce, or Soy Bean Paste Sauce, which has a savoury base with a hint of spicy heat. The Garlic Chili Sauce is also very good, fiery and fragrant!

The Sukiyaki soup base is a dark brown, savoury and sweet base of soy sauce, wherein the sweetness is more prominent. Meat cooked in Sukiyaki is usually dipped in a mixture of beaten raw egg with soy sauce, before being eaten. The Touyu Miso soup base is a clear white, savoury base of miso, popular during winter. The soup tends to foam during cooking, and meat cooked in Touyu Miso is usually dipped in a mixture of white sesame sauce / Goma Tare, before being eaten.

Eat as much as I can, I was excited with the dishes fully occupied at our table. I cannot say their ingredients displayed at the bar were all healthy, because most of them were frozen foodies. Anyway, the important thing was delicious for me. I was enjoying the pot with my DIY dipping sauce, Beef, Chicken and Pork were obviously fresh and filling. Reasonable price, their service, ambience and food-quality were all up-to standard.

There are a few soup bases for you to choose and you can try 2 out of the few choices! I usually order the Soya Sauce and the Kimichi soup bases. The food taste better after boiling in them. I love their beef and pork that are thinly sliced and being cooked in a matter of seconds! Before putting it into your mouth, dip them into a bowl of sesame sauce which you can request from the waiter or waitress. The combination is great and I just can't stop cooking another slice and another slice... ....

This “House of Hot Pot” is designed to offer heart-warming dining experiences at equally endearing prices. We enjoyed unlimited, top-quality beef, pork and chicken that are oh-so-delicious in their own right. Another highlight of Suki-Ya is its vegetable bar featuring a wide variety of fresh vegetables to round up the meal with a healthy touch. Along with sumptuous soups and broths, dining at Suki-Ya is bound to perk up everyone’s taste buds!

As a big fan of steamboat, Suki-ya is by far one of my favorite place to satisfy my craving especially during those evil rainy days and you desperately need something to hot to warm your grumpy stomach. I first discover Suki-ya at a corner of Marina Square, but too bad it has closed down due to renovation. But thank God they are expanding their business and there's a branch which is quite near to me, at Bugis+!

So it is a serious affair between myself and Suki-ya. I walked in feeling very happy and immediately order 2 of my usual soup - the clear soup and kimchi soup. Though the kimchi soup does not taste spicy at all, I would still prefer it than their sukiyaki soup (not a fan of sweet soup). After that is the battle of picking my favorite sides and vegetables for the shabu shabu. Of course, Golden Mushrooms are something I will die for to have them put inside my pot of boiling soup. Followed by the Cheesy Cheesy Meatballs which the cheese will literally burst inside your mouth and burn your tongue if you are brave enough to pop the whole thing into your mouth. Finally, the meat. There's 3 meat to choose from - chicken, pork and beef. These meats are thinly sliced so that it will be cooked once you shabu it for like... 10 secs?

But to play safe, it is good to cook the chicken and pork thoroughly to prevent you from having diarrhea for nothing.

The ingredients are fresh and very worth the money. One can easily sit there and just eat the meat throughout without feeling guilty.

Is the same concept with causeway point but the different is there's a time limited: 90mins...Free flow of pork, beef and chicken for only $19.90 dinner...There are 3 types of meat slices being served - chicken, pork, beef...The beef tends to be of a very very lean cut, hence is pretty tough to chew..The other self-serve food are some rather limp looking maki rolls, veggies and mushrooms, a couple of crab balls/sotong balls, egg, vermicelli... not very exciting and selection is not wide. The other self-serve food are some rather limp looking maki rolls, veggies and mushrooms, a couple of crab balls/sotong balls, egg, vermicelli... not very exciting and selection is not wide. Maybe 15 choices in all..

There are 3 different types of soup base (Choice of Soup Base: Sukiyaki, Shabu Shabu & Kimchi) and the pot can allow 2 types...The taste is reasonable good quality, cos they have high traffic flow of customers...Food is cheap and good - value for money...The meat re-fill came quickly and all the food was fresh...

Overall a good eat when you are looking to cook something by yourself...

The ramen is delicious and al dente if you cook it right, and the meat cooks very quickly in the boiling soup because they're so thinly sliced. Fantastic with a bit of scrambled raw egg.

Golden mushroom is plenty and that's usually the only other thing we stock up on. The rest of the ingredients we usually don't care about because if you're looking to get your value, it's all in the meats.

During dinner, they provide ice cream as well so that's a much appreciated bonus!

Went to Suki Ya at Bugis+ and had the dinner buffet. We were given a selection of 2 soups and we chose the sweet soy sauce soup base and the spicier kimchi soup base.Overall, the sweet soy sauce soup base was too sweet and sickening and we didn't eat much from that side of the steamboat. I had expected something more savory, however this may suit those who like the sweeter taste. However, it goes really well with the Japanese Daikon (something like white radish) and they have an abundance of it.

The kimchi soup base is much more tangy and satisfying. It wasn't spicy at all and the soup went really well with the meat and vegetable selection.

We also ordered the additional Wagyu beef at $7.99++ and it looked great. Look at the marbling of the beef! It went down really well so if you can spare the budget, do give it a try.

Otherwise, the other meat selections were v fresh too. They emphasize on their shabu shabu meats and true enough, the pork, chicken and beef were cut thin and ready for the shabu. The colours of the meat was just fantastic. It tasted really good with whichever sauce you desire.

There wasn't much of a seafood selection in this restaurant which is quite a bummer, but they make up for it with the meats. There are also the usual steamboat ingredients such as meatballs, seafood balls, and this faux lobster meat as pictured below. My bf thought it was real and took quite a few, only to be disappointed.
It tasted good anyway.

I like that the restaurant wasn't too crowded and not stuffy at all like a lot of steamboat restaurants out there. Do give it a try if you are a fan of meat shabu shabu.

Lunch at $16.90++
Dinner at $20.90++

Fridays-Sundays, Eve of and Public Holidays
Add $2 to usual price!

I would also like to remind you that because the price is higher during weekends, they introduced a special broth - Miso with Soya Milk, which is only found on weekends!!

They have very fresh and quite a wide variety of food for you to choose from. Honestly, compared to those steamboat places at bug is alleys, I think suki-ya provided a cleaner, more hygienic place to dine at.

Left: Chicken
Right: Wagyu Beef

Meat is free flow if you come for the buffet! I think I'm so going to bring my friends and boyfriend here because they can simply eat all they can!! And please be sure that the quality of the meat will not be jeopardized because as much as they are prepared thinly, the thickness is just nice as you place it in the hotpot for a few seconds and you can eat it straightaway~
