We had two set lunches and all the dishes were solid - definitely a cut above Poulet, Saveur or the French Stall.
If my memory serves me right, we had:
- Rillettes de Canard
- Foie Gras (this... this... single dish alone was worth the trip...)
- Cold duck sausage
- Duck Confit Parmentier (It's nice though we kinda missed having a plump whole duck leg. That's only available for dinner.)
- Cos my french of bad, I can't remember the name of the dish so I'm just going to describe it... A very hearty grilled chicken on a bed of stewed vegetables. (The vegetables were just so flavorful. Never imagined how olives could blend so nicely into a bed of vegetables. The chicken was well brined, crispy skin... the works.)
- Profiteroles for dessert. Don't. miss. this.
The set lunch will come with coffee or tea.
Small rustic homely restaurant serving quality atas french food cooked and served with pride at very very reasonable prices.
Overall, an excellent place to bring your date or have date nights!

This is a very small place - can accommodate about 7 tables only.    And the location is not near any mrt station.  But this has not stopped me from going to French Ladle to enjoy the food My favourites are: 1. 2. Foie Gras - a must in a French restaurant.  Well executed such that it is not bloody on the inside and is crispy on the outside

3. Mushroom risotto - compared to the asparagus version, this is so good.  Creamy rice infused with mushroom and truffle oil.  You can try to order it when you make your reservation as well as they may not have it on the menu.

I'll let pictures stir your appetite.

The chef has been cooking professionally since he was 17. Since moving to Singapore in 2006, he had worked in reputable kitchens of Swiss’otel, St Regis, Il Lido and Absinthe (under Chef Francois Mermilliod). Whenever I speak to Johnny, he is very proud that he cooks in the classical French way, also meaning preparing everything from scratch!!! This means taking up to 6 hours just to extract duck fat to use as a base for other dishes. Time-consuming for a restaurant only ran by 2-3 people but the food is oh-so-yummy!!!

Most of my friends I have brought says French Ladle has the best:
1) French Onion Soup
2) Duck Confit
3) Pot-Au-Feu, in Singapore.

I came here with my colleagues for lunch as our office is nearby. The cafe is lovely decorated with paintings and ornaments to create a European cafe ambience. The variety on the menu is however rather limited and they have different set of menu for lunch and dinner. We ordered mushroom soup, escargot, duck confit, spring chicken and ribeye steak. They served us with complimentary mini French baguette and butter. The bread was crispy and toasted to perfection. The mushroom soup is not too creamy. It could have been better with more mushroom bits in my opinion. The escargots were good overall.

The medium-well ribeye steak that I chose was juicy and tender. It tasted delicious. I tried my colleague's duck confit and the duck meat was quite tender too. However, the duck used was a little thin and there isn't really much duck meat on the plate. As for the spring chicken, well it was good but nothing too special about it either.

We spent about 30sgd each. For a 3-course lunch like this, it was a little expensive. If the food are authentically French style cooking, I would be more willing to pay for this amount.

Overall, I still recommend for this place if you want some serenity and peace for your meal.
