Chocolate peanut butter is something new that i wanted to try cause i like the combination. I actually quite enjoyed it. Cake texture is what i always expected from Pine Garden. Thumbs up!

Up next is Avocado Gula Melaka Cake! When i spotted this, i knew it's gonna be great for my family cause we all love avocado. I even spotted cubes of avocado in the cake which everyone quite enjoyed. By the way, they used chocolate sponge cake for this one =)

It's really hard to find a really good slice of cake well under six bucks these days. You can't point fingers at the owners of patisseries for jacking the price unless you want them to close down for good. So whenever I stumble upon a bakery shop/patisserie like Pine Garden and take a quick look at their price tag, I would be baffled as to how could they even do it? Are they even making profit or breaking even given the fact that each slice cost no more than four bucks?

But in reality, there are places like Pine Garden where prices are kept as low as they can while still enough to make a profit.

Five alcoholic cakes shared over five people. Each having a certain preference over another, if not overlapping preferences for some cakes as in the case of the Blackforest with soaked cherries bits in between the layers of chocolate sponges. Nuttymisu was another good catch combining the traditional Italian recipe with almonds, hazelnuts, macadamia and walnuts. Bailey's Chocolate Crunch was not bad though after trying so many different ones, the alcoholic taste just taste too plain so just grab one or two and savour each slice one at a time. Afterall, what's the rush? It's not like your boss is after you right?

Green Apple Vera Martini Cake was a slight disappointment with comments like it tasted like slurping green apple bubble tea from a few of us. I can't help but to agree with the crowd. It's just that it's bad but I believe there are better ones compared to this green one.

But none needs to be said about Pine Garden's Lychee Martini Cake. It's their best seller and how I wish I could get my lecturer and friends to look somewhere while I gobble up the cake in a flare. When they turn their heads back, they will see nothing but a gratified boy smiling and smacking his messy lips. But that's just rude, impolite and above all, all good things should be shared.

I guess I have to wait for another visit just to do what I've just said...

Please don't go away thinking there's only alcoholic cakes in there. I saw mooncakes and old school cream cakes for sales too. It's still an old school bakery that met alcohol during the good old days.

Since our last foray into the shop, we decided to get a 1.5kg lychee martini cake for our Dad. At $63, this was a reasonable price for a cake really. I would describe this cake as layers of sponge cake with the unmistakable scent of lychee. Between every layer, you'll find martini soaked lychee bits in light pink cream. The entire cake is a delightfully pastel shade of pink! It might be too pink for a big man you say, but he is really just a gentle giant, we say!Was more than enough cake to go a

So we grabbed this and sat outside to eat this Black Glutinous Rice (Pulut Hitam) Cake! $2.90 for this slice of old meets new. I don't know if we were supposed to, but we sat on the al fresco of next door deli to share this!It is simple yet so traditional, and it tastes so good. Light sponge with cream mixed in with the glutinous rice grains and topped with a generous serving of pulut hitam in its original form.

Gone were the days were cakes priced in their twos ($2), threes ($3) and fours ($4). I hardly find myself buying them by the bulk and share with like-minded dessert fans. But few cafes and confectioneries still make good and affordable cakes. One of which I know of, Pine Garden just of the streets of Ang Mio Kio avenue 10 does them really good.

Good might just be an understatement considering they have a wide variety of different ones. From the standard coloured buttercream ones like your Triple Layer Chocolate ($2.50) which is surprisingly rich and chocolatey to the more unique and rarely seen Hazelnut Chocolate Crunch ($2.60).

But what makes Pine Garden more better known for their buttercream cakes than other place are their alcoholic piece. A personal favourite which could justify much craved tea snacks would be their Lychee Martini ($2.50) and Apple Vera Martini ($3.10).

The fruity pulps are nice to go with though not everyone would love them as you could barely taste the martini in the cakes. I think the alcohol content in them is just fine but if you need a bit more kick, maybe Bailey’s Chocolate Crunch ($3.10) and Moscato Soursop Cake ($3.10) or even try Nuttymisu ($6.50), their rendition of the tiramisu.

For non-alcoholic fans of all things sweet, try contemplating a slice of Pulut Hitam Cake ($2.60). Easily the winner of all their flavours since it almost always catch people’s attention much like the Malay dessert in its ice cream form.

But the cream upon it, Ii have to say they could cut down and go easy on it.

There are always alternatives if one’s preference is not quite the same as mine. Orange Zest Chocolate Cakes ($2.60) and the coconut pudding with coconut strips known as Cocotero ($2.60). Like how a hot knife cut through butter, one by one my friends all fell in love with them…

Pine Garden’s Cake might be an unassuming bakery with bread and floury snacks all nicely packed on the shelves. But once you try their unique buttercream cakes, I assure you that you wish you could grab a few pieces every now and then…

They have two outlets, both are just a corner away from the other. I always visit the one beside Next Door Deli because they seem to have more variety to choose from.

Or…

I could just bring in a few slices to Next Door Deli and enjoy them like an after lunch treat.

Pine Garden is my favourite bakery in the neighbourhood. I always go a few times per month. I love those old-fashioned buttercream cake costing from $1.50 to $1.80. There are a few designs to choose. The sponge cake is always soft with enough buttercream. These cakes have simple designs like those of old times. I always buy many pieces to share with my family at home.

From left to right:
1. Black Forest Cake,
2. Orange Zest Chocolate Cake
3. Bailey's Chocolate Crunch Cake
4. Hazelnut Chocolate Crunch Cake

These cakes really attracted me because most of them were all made of chocolate!!!!

Black Forest Cake:
When I took the first bite, I could already feel the bitterness of the chocolate! It was not sweet - I totally love it!! The cake was made of 3 layers of moist chocolate cake with white cream. I actually prefer the whole cake to be made of chocolate without cream, though. There were also rum-soaked cherry bits in between the cake, which made the chocolate cake tasted more unique than the ones outside.

Orange Zest Chocolate Cake:
The texture of the chocolate cake was really soft and fluffy - just like spongecake. So I guess it's very healthy and not fattening because it was not buttery. In fact, I found it a little dry but it was still tasty and smelled awesome with the orange scent!

Bailey's Chocolate Crunch Cake
This cake was very special, the chocolate and coffee scent was very fragrant and heavy, there were also chocolate crunch balls in between the soft layers of the cake!

Hazelnut Chocolate Crunch Cake
Love this cake too. Just like Bailey's Chocolate Crunch Cake, there were chocolate crunch balls in between the soft layers of the cake! Very special and chocolatey, love the hazelnut smell too! Tasted better than expected

Overall, I find the texture of the cakes from this shop very good. Just nice for me.
The cakes are not fattening as not much butter is used - the cakes are slightly dry, but soft.
They looked very attractive as well!!
Perfect for desserts, parties, and celebrations

They were not too bad, the cream cheese filling was rich and packed with cheese flavour, but I did wish they could be more generous with the blueberry swirls, as I could hardly taste much blueberry flavour. It was fortunately not cloyingly sweet and went very well with the crumbly tart shells.

I am quite a fan of their cakes. I have been going by regularly to get those slices of fanciful yet delicious cakes. And, i have ordered quite a few times of their regular cakes for various birthday celebrations. My all time favourite has to be the Strawberry mirror cake. There is strawberry cream sandwiched in between the layer of strawberry sponge cake coupled with the jelly layer on top decorated by halve of the fresh strawberry.

This pandan cake from Pine Garden has been one of my favourite pandan cake since I was really young. The cake sponge is really soft and abit moist as well, which make it not too dry. The pandan flavour is fragrant and not overly coloured with too greenish colour. The price is reasonable and is good to serve at least four to five adults. Usually sold out quite fast so do be there early to avoid disappointment.
