Tom's Palette is still my favourite ice-cream palour after trying other ice-cream shops like Udders and Daily Scoop! It's definitely cheaper than the rest ($3.40 for a small cup of two flavours and if you have a student card from Poly/Uni you get 10% off the whole receipt). The Misses: Candy Crush was really disgusting, I must say. Please try the flavours that you intend to order before you order it in a full cup. I tried a little bit of Candy Crush and nearly turned diabetic on the spot. Mystery flavour was butter(scotch?) and also made me shrivel a little inside. Literal expression: :S The Salted Eggyolk was also a little lackluster today.

The Usual Favourites: Granny's Favourite, Black Sesame, Vanilla Creme, Yuzu, Blueberry Cheesecake.

(Black Sesame + Vanilla Creme - a good combi to mix)

Go ahead and try the flavours before ordering them! Have fun, I did!

As usual, excellent service with a smile despite the crowd.

Service
The service as usual is friendly, greeted with smiles from the staff. They let you try out new favours on ice cream sticks with a smile. Just make a little request to them.

Ambience
The place has a friendly, bubbly ambience. A place you would share a chat with friends, or bring your date to relax and enjoy a dessert.

Price
The price is reasonable, comparable with other ice cream joints.

Recommendations / Tips
Salted egg yolk is my all time favourite.

Tom's Palette has been popular amongst youngsters and university students, especially SMU students because it's located pretty near the school. Our school's skating team will occasionally skate here for dessert right after our dinner on skates.

What I love about Tom's Palette is none other than their creative flavours which they make the effort to produce a new flavour every month! So it means if you come every month, you'll get to try out their new invention! Kindly ask the staff to let you try their popular flavours too! They will be happy to do it.

Not sure if they offer exotic flavours like durian, but they do offer certain tea-flavoured ice cream! One of their popular flavours is the Salted Caramel CheeseCake. It was quite nice but it's a little too salty for me, hence I didn't choose it.

What's more attractive is, besides their cheaper than usual prices, they offer 10% discounts to some schools as well! So a medium sized cup becomes only $3.60 after discount! Which is considered cheap compared to... say udders?

Granny's Favourites - Molten chocolate with cookie dough in a slight chocolatey taste chocolate ice cream

Milk Ice Cream - Roasted Almonds coated with chocolate in the milk ice cream, with one of the main ingredients to be none other than... milk powder!

This is surely a good place for you to come with your friends if you have no where else to go after gaming, shopping etc etc. If your feet are tired, give them a break and come to Tom's Palette for a cup of ice cream and chill out with your friends! Usually, you can stay here for up to 1/2 - 1 hour if there isn't a lot of people! Just like any other ice cream parlors.

What is worth the recommendation is none other than their affordable price for all the students out there. They offer milkshakes and fruit ice blended as well, if you are thirsty!

For the ambience, I would say it's a little bustling but that's all we usually see in an ice cream parlor, isn't it? It's just because of such environment which is appropriate for a friends gathering because you can laugh all you can with your friends with no fear of disrupting the quietness, if any. The place is air-conditioned as well, with plenty of seats available.

Ever since one of my friends introduced me to Tom's palette, I have made it a point to drop by everytime I'm at Bugis. This ice cream shop has a wide and interesting variety of flavours such as salted egg (which is actually yummy!) and my personal favourite- granny's recipe. It is a delicious mix of malt and chocolate. Average cost is about $3 for a cup of this size.

Tom's Palette is my favourite ice-cream restaurant in Singapore and I'll tell you why:

1. They have interesting flavours that they create themselves, with funky names and surprisingly almost all the 'weird' flavours taste good!

2. I love the service there. You can try all the new flavours and they will not give you the feeling of 'stress' just because you've tried too many flavours. And all the samples they give are so big and generous! <3<3

3. Cozy and homey feeling in the shop with many drawings on the table and the serviette-notice board! ;) I can stay there for hourssss.

4. Super cheap (for the quality of ice-cream). $3.20 for small, $4 for medium for 2 flavours! Sorry I forgot the price for large cup because I usually order medium / small. ++ You'll get a 10% card discount if you can produce your student card - NTU/NUS/SMU/SIM/TP/RP/SMa/NP/JDMIS/SIT).

5. There's a water dispenser in case you get thirsty from all the ice-cream! /so-thoughtful

5. It's not that inaccessible, I realized. You can either walk from Bugis (towards National Library and down Bencoolen St with Fragrance Hotel/Hotel 81 etc.) and you'll see Shaw Towers. Or you can walk from Suntec City (1st exit to the left after you get up the escalator with the digital marquee thing, across the bridge, into the blue door beside the cantonese restaurant, walk straight and turn right).

6. The quality of the ice-cream is so good, you can tastes it the moment it enters your mouth!

The trick to maximise your enjoyment at Tom's Palette is to find two flavours that matches (because the 2 flavours you choose will be next to each other in the same cup). The same way some people likes to eat Mac fries with vanilla ice-cream, you have to find the right combinations! (Not all flavours are available everyday.)

With so many flavours before your eyes, you're bound to feel overwhelmed, spoilt for choice & undecided (especially trying out so many flavours, you forgot the taste of the first one you tried already).

These are some combinations I love:
1. Granny's Favourite + Anything not chocolatey (Personal favourites: Yuzu / Milk)
2. Blueberry Cheesecake + Tiramisu
3. Milk + Breakfast Dessert
4. Oreo Cheesecake + Salted Caramel

Flavours I find too sweet/strong for my liking (given that I'm a sweet tooth, I think these are wayyy too sweet)
1. Summer Berries (too sweet)
2. Apple Pie (too sweet)
3. Rum & Raisin (the alcohol taste is quite strong, if you like the taste of rum, then you'll love this!)
4. Salted Egg (This tastes kind of strange, in fact it tastes like mooncakes! I find it a little weird. You might like it!)

I've been there a few times and every visit cheers me up greatly.

If you're an ice-cream lover and you haven't been here, you should!!! Absolutely my favourite ice-cream place in Singapore, hands down.

We have the salted egg yolk ice cream, inspired by the yolk-filled custard buns in Hong Kong. It taste like the salted egg yolk found in mooncake! Surprisingly its not salty, a tad of sweetness, creamy, rich and filled with many grainy yolk. It was amazingly good, but last few sips get to be boring.

I wanted to pair it with milk ice cream as recommended by Charlene, however it was not available on that day *disappointed*. Therefore I had it with my all time favourite, Chocolate. It was quite chocolatey, but I will love it if its richer and darker chocolate was used.

Derrick ordered Quattro to go with his salted egg yolk ice cream.

Quattro was flavour of the month, made with sangria, pineapple, raisin and orange. Taste very much like our tradition Chinese rice wine! Very unique in taste, try it if you are adventurous enough!

Jacob had pistachio and I thought it was really nice like I am munching the pistachio nuts.

- My Opinion
I felt their ice cream are smooth, packed with flavour and creamy. Its not as dense and sweet as other ice cream. However their ice cream melt really FAST, you can't really enjoy them at a slow pace even in their air-condition stop. Maybe this is because they don't add stabilisers to their ice cream?

I won't say I am mesmerised or the ice cream taste deliciously wow, but hey, consider the price are inexpensive and offer a good variety of flavours, they are definitely value for money. Look out for their new innovative flavours every month that will keep you excited.

This is a medium cup of Chocolate Sorbet mixed with Rum and Raisin. My friends and I had fun guessing each other's flavor without telling each other, and we could easily tell the taste of the above ice-cream. The chocolate sorbet was super thick, if you are a thick chocolate lover you would love this! The Rum and Raisin had a sweet smelling fragrance from the wine they've used, it had a slight taste of rum.

This small cup holds the Banana & Sarsi! You can see that the colours are really appealing, and we could tell straightaway from the flavor of banana and it kind of makes us feel healthy (a perceived thought). However, the Sarsi didn't taste like sarsi but it gives off a sweet and an unexpected taste, a unique flavor. The ice-cream melted really fast, probably due to the hot weather of Singapore, thus we can't really enjoy licking it but most of us are simply scooping up a generous portion before storing them in our mouths for savouring.

I had the Hazelnut and Milk with nuts ice-cream and I thought it was a perfect combination! Too bad I just ordered a small cup. I took my time trying about 4 flavours and the ice-cream server seemed quite frustrated with me and asked, 'have you decided what you want?
' I guess it was a fun time trying flavors with the ice-cream stick, especially when there are so many flavors and you are spoilt for choice! My friends couldn't tell both flavours, they tried their best to guess but could only come as near as vanilla and toffee. However, we all enjoyed these different flavors very much! They also have special flavors that are available only for the day and they update them on their Facebook page.

Tom's Palette also have a corner where you can get free water, similar to other ice-cream outlets. However it was placed in such a secluded position in the corner that not many notice it. At the other corner of the shop is where people pinned up their tissue paper (serviettes) with their messages on it, which is quite strange an art but I guess if you're a great chef of deserts you might not make a great artiste for interior designing.

Over here you'll see two ladies serving ice-cream, and I felt that there should be a man because the ladies are doing all the tough work digging into the ice-cream and scooping them up, which may have attribute to their lack of patience while the customers give careful thought on what flavors to purchase.

If you desire an affordable dessert trip with your friends, Tom's Palette will surely not disappoint you!
In fact, it really made me feel like a happy child as the shop was filled with laughters from (mostly adults) and teenagers-alike!

The sasi flavour is even more of a surprise and I loved it a lot. It is so much better than the real drink itself. This is very exciting on the palette and it is one of the most unique flavours I have ever come across. This is why I love their ice creams so much as they always bring new flavours to us.

It is chocolate sorbet week and I naturally went for chocolate sorbet and my all time favourite, the salted egg ice cream. The chocolate sorbet is unlike any chocolate ice cream. This is so much more intense in cocoa and it is like eating the real chocolate without cream masking its taste. It is really good. It might be slightly bitter, but that is the draw of this sorbet. The salted egg is very delicious as well, with the slight salty, creamy texture. You have to try it to know how nice it is.

Milk ice cream in front, Granny's Favourite at the back

The milk ice cream has a subtle flavour that works well with the chunks of nuts they throw into it. The Granny's Favourite on the other hand, boasts a bold malt flavour studded with balls of malt, chocolate and nuts. It's a very comforting taste, almost nostalgic, as it reminds me of Horlicks (and eating Horlicks straight out of the tin when Mum isn't looking).

My other all-time favourite is the Chocolate Sorbet. Velvety smooth and creamy with an intense chocolate flavour, you marvel at the fact that this was not made with any dairy product.

Oh, do look out for their seasonal flavours too! The pineapple tart flavour is always one of the highlights of my Chinese New Year.

It's just a pity that one cannot be eating ice cream on a daily basis.

The flavours are just getting way out of hand sometimes! I have yet to try their wasabi though, a little too adventurous for me, one taste of it could just alter my taste buds! Had a go at the salted egg yolk and WOW! It really really tastes equal to a xian dan. This is one flavour you must try! And yes, there’s this little chalkiness like texture that makes it unique so that it resembles the salted egg.

We had their highly recommended Granny’s Favourite which is essentially chocolate malt ice cream and cookie dough. Chocolate lovers will not be disappointed with this. Another highly recommended flavour is Salted Caramel Cheesecake, although we wished the cheesecake flavour could come out stronger. Rum and Raisin did not disappoint with a strong rum flavour blended into vanilla ice cream coupled with generous portions of raisins. We also choose Yuzu, to balance out the rest of the sweet, milky flavours. Yuzu is a japanese citrus fruit that has a nice tangy refreshing tangerine flavour.

A small cup goes for $2.80 and you can choose to have 2 flavours in your cup at a go. They really pack the ice cream into each cup as much as possible and as a result, it has been really packed in compactly and from the picture, the ice cream is bursting out of the cups! Furthermore, tertiary and poly students get to enjoy 10% off!

Also, since this is homemade ice cream, they melt really quickly. The owners pride themselves for not adding preservatives or stabilizers, so you’re getting the real deal! =)
