Late Night Dinner at Marche Smile Jan 25, 2012

My friend and I watched a movie at Vivo a couple of weeks ago. It finished a bit late and there were only a couple of restaurants that were still open.

Marche was one of them, and so that's where we ate! The good thing about dining at around 10pm at this resto is that you don't have to queue anymore. There were a number of available tables so we were able to choose the best seats!

We ordered the onion and tomato pizza and the vegetable rosti. What I like about this resto is that they will only cook your pizza after ordering. SO, you can be sure that it's fresh out of the oven all the time. As always, it was oh-so-good!The vegetable rosti was also quite a treat for us.

Let me set this straight. Fat Cow is an expensive restaurant. Lunch or dinner per pax there wouldn't fall below $100. But to their credit, they will really give you a dining experience unlike any other restaurant.

Firstly the ambience. Since this is Japanese you can expect that the interior is very minimalist. Wood seem to dominate its decorations. As for the service, they have a number of waiters to serve guests inside. Since they only have a small seating capacity in their restaurant, you wouldn't have to wait for someone to cater to your needs. One major plus is that they have a resident wine sommelier. So, if you feel like educating yourself with the different wines and the dishes best paired with it... Fat Cow is the place to be.

As for the food, expect to shell out a couple of bucks for each dish. I had the Zucchini Blossom for starters and it was definitely unique. It was coated in something crispy, yet the zucchini remained light to eat. It's served with honey. Make sure you dip it for it adds another level of taste to this one.

As for the main course, of course I ordered the Steak. They've got different types of beef which you can ask the chef, who by the way, is just in front of you. You can choose the cooking method, if it's rare, medium rare, etc. NO matter how cooked or raw it is, you're assured of its high quality.

Phat Boy's Burger (pun intended) Smile Sep 01, 2011

Mahalo

Mahalo

I read on a food blog that Fatboy's Burger has got some really good burgers. And so, I was able to persuade my friend to have dinner at their Upper Thomson outlet. Going there after work, I was surprised that majority of the diners are students! Anyway, it was quite packed so we were asked to be seated at the bar area first. But to save time, the waitress asked us to give them our order.

I chose the Mahalo. It has bacon stuffed pork patty, caramelised onions, grilled pineapple, melted emmenthal cheese sanwiched between a sesame seed bun. It also came with a generous serving of french fries. Drinking water was also available so I didn't need to order soda which was good. I'm on a diet right now so I stick to plain water whenever I am eating.

As for the burger, the portion was HUGE! It was so hard to bite so I had to really use a knife and fork. But what I like about their burger was that it was money well spent. They were very generous with the cheese, thick and tasty patty. Burger buns were also very soft and tasty. just the way i like it.

Spice It Up at Moluccas Room Smile Sep 01, 2011

I had the pleasure of having dinner at this new restaurant located at Marina Bay Sands. Since this is new, my knowledge about Moluccas Room was pretty much that it is an Indonesian restaurant.

They serve authentic Indonesian dishes but what makes this unique is the way the chef prepares her dishes. She uses French cooking methods, such as cooking the meat in its own fat, to make it more flavourful.

I tried their three satay—the chicken, angus beef tongue, and angus beef. The chicken and beef were grilled to charcoal perfection. The tongue was a bit too chewy for me, I had a hard time swallowing it. It tasted like beef, but softer and chewier.

As for the mains, I tried the Ikan Bakar Jimbaran otherwise known as the sweet and spicy grilled fresh filler. As a sweet and sour dish, I kind of expected it to be a balance of the two flavours. But the spiciness far outweighed the other flavour. It was good, yes, but after eating it, I felt like my mouth was on fire.

To remove this fire in my mouth, I then had their signature dessert of Sri Kaya Crème Brulee, which comes in three shot glasses and a thin wafer on top. I enjoyed the vanilla flavour so much.

Wine and Dine at Suite 23 Smile Aug 15, 2011

There's no denying that Suite 23 is a fancy place. But I must tell you, it's worth your money. Having tried dinner there one time, I went straight for their signature dish-the 650gm Angus Porterhouse Steak, medium rare.

When the waiter handed me my order, I was shocked by how big the size is. I know that steaks have big servings but I felt like this was one just humongous. It could take me a week to finish that whole slab. Despite its thickness, it was served really tender and juicy. They have five sauces which can complement this dish. I preferred the hollandaise. =)

After having a few slices, the taste became monochromatic so I decided to eat something different. And so, I had their chocolate tiramisu. The alcohol taste was very strong, but I still liked it.
