Bishamon is current running a very enticing promotion – 50% off all Ramen on Wednesdays! As the husband and I were craving for something soupy on a cold Wednesday evening, this promotion was too good to be missed.

We both ordered their signature Original Miso Ramen (U.P. $14.20++) but was quite disappointed. The char shu was served cold (likely it was just placed as a topping without heating up) through the soup was considerably warm – a definite turn off! The noodles were still acceptable though it could have been more springy. The saving grace came from the soup base which was really thick and authentic. The husband practically spared no effort in slurping up the entire bowl.

Overall, it was a very worthy meal and considerably satisfying meal.

As we had the 1-for-1 voucher from Standard Chartered bank, we decided to fully utilise it by ordering the 2 most expensive dishes under the Gourmet Selection - Marinara Pasta and Seafood Carbonara Pasta.

Marinara Pasta ($18.90++)
The pasta was quite bland and average tasting. It was only after adding in significant amounts of olive oil and chili flakes before the flavours were brought out. The seafood (consisting of 2 mussels, 2 big prawns and some squid rings) was quite fresh and tasty.

Seafood Cabonara Pasta ($18.90++)
This pasta definitely fared much better than the former. It was creamy and coupled with a dash of olive oil, the full flavours were greatly enhanced. As with the former, the seafood toppings were fresh and tasty.

True to its namesake, we found the olive oil - strategically placed on every table - the soul and spirit of every dish. Overall, the food was decent, though nothing much to shout about. Will we visit again? Probably not unless there's another 1-for-1 promo.

Had a quick dinner fix at Ajisen as we wanted to redeem a complementary meal thanks to Capitaland! I had the Dry Char Shu Sauce Ramen while the husband had the Kumamoto Ramen Set with California Maki.

Dry Char Shu Sauce Ramen (FOC)
This was a special item not found in the menu. As the saying goes, don't expect too much with free things. The noodles were tough and the minute toppings of bite-size char shu was cold and unsatisfying. However, I must still give due credits to the sauce which I found to be quite tasty.

This was definitely way better than the former. The soup base was rich and the noodles springy. However, we would very much prefer those runny eggs to the hardboiled egg served. The char shu was quite tasty though we found it a tad too tough.

Overall, it was a decent meal to fill the tummy but not satisfy the tastebuds.

We had earlier purchased some deal coupons online and decided to head down to the Plaza Sing outlet after catching a movie at Cathay.

We were offered free tasting of their flavours and eventually settled with rum & raisin, forest berries, and dark truffle chocolate. The Gelato was smooth and tasty. We especially like the forest berries flavour as it was zesty and not too sweet. The dark truffle chocolate was equally good with a hint of chocolaty bitterness which lingers in the mouth after every bite. Yummy!

Pricewise, we found the original cost of $5.90 for 1 scope to be on the high side. We would be back if there's more promotion coming up!

p/s: We paid only $3.99 for 3 scoops ;)

We spent a lazy Saturday afternoon at Dr Cafe, with the husband sipping away on a cuppa coffee and myself, happily munching on a bowl of salad.

This open concept cafe was very cosy and decorated with comfortable sofas and even a fire place! One could easily spend the whole afternoon there simply reading and having deep conversations with friends.

The food however, could be further improved. The Cappuccino ($5.90), no doubt rich and aromatic, was served cold. The Chicken Caesar Salad ($7.90) was topped with generous portions of grilled chicken breast meat, cheddar and mozzarella cheese. However, I found the chicken a little on the tough side and a tad too dry.

Overall, we still a pretty good experience there as the ambience more than made up for the shortfall in food quality.
