A perfect weekend hideout  Smile Oct 20, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : American | Burgers and Sandwiches

Located within Trade Hub 21, this casual American dining outlet is a perfect weekend hideout for those seeking asylum from the bustling town area. The laid back cowboy ambience provides an idyllic dining experience where one can simply chill and enjoy the afternoon with good company!

Platter Set ($45+)
The platter set, consisting of 300g Australian Marbled Beef Steak & Grilled US Corn-Fed Pork Chop, Mini Bloomin' Onions, Potato Gratin, Salad, 2x Mushroom Soup, and 2x lemon tea, is good to share among 2-4 pax. The portion is generous and value for money.

The Marbled Beef Steak was juicy, chewy and grilled to perfection! The marbling was excellent as the fats literally melted in our mouths and was a joy to savour.

The Pork Chop was a disappointment, however. Although it was pretty well marinated and glaced with a thick layer of tasty BBQ sauce, the meat was dry and tough on the palate.

The sides were decent except for the Bloomin' Onion which we thought was too floury and lacked the crisp we were anticipating.

The rich and creamy mushroom soup was excellent!

Beer Butt Chicken ($32+)
The Beer Butt Chicken was the highlight of today's meal. It was truly a feast for the eyes and a tantalising treat for the tongue!

The waitress presented the picture-perfect chicken (in its original cooked form) for our photo-taking sake before cutting it up, with one portion infused in the beer broth and the other, au-natural style. Although both versions were tasty in their own way, I preferred the beer-soaked version as the essence was well absorbed into the chicken, exuding a hint of light bitter-sweet aftertaste.

The chicken was exceptionally tender and smooth while the skin was sinfully delicious and crispy .

BBQ Wings ($14+)
The BBQ wings were well marinated and flavourful. A pity, however, was that it wasn't served hot and the meat was slightly dry.

Blacken Dory (16+)
The dory was well grilled, with a crispy surface and soft, moist centre. However, the taste could be further improved upon as I found it to be a little on the blend side. Perhaps adding a dash of sea salt or some rosemary herbs might do the trick?

Overall, we were pleased with the quality and hearty portion of food served! Although the location might be a little inconvenient for those taking public transport, it was definitely worth the extra mile!

Good Promotions! Smile Oct 15, 2013

Manhattan Fish Market was running some coupon promotion recently and we decided to utilise these coupons as we were around the vicinity and contemplating what to have for dinner.

1-for-1 Grilled Dory with Rice ($12.95++)
The dory was soft and juicy and goes well with the light butter rice. I particularly love the accompanying Thai-inspired sauce which was zesty and mildly spicy. A simple, affordable yet tasty treat to fill our tummies! We topped up with a bowl of seafood bisque which we felt was quite tasty and creamy.

Manhattan Flaming Prawns ($19.95++)
This was a visually entertaining dish which could be improved upon with fresher ingredients. The prawns were not very fresh, resulting in a limp texture. The good thing was that the sweet aftertaste of the mayo glacing managed to mask the shortcomings. Overall, still a passable dish!

Yummy Beef & Vegetables Bowl Smile Oct 15, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Kids-Friendly

A delicious yet healthy bowl of piping hot Yoshinoya Beef with Vegetables Rice($6) certainly cheers me up on a cold Monday evening! The portion is unusually generous, especially for the beef which is always so tasty and soft. I like the fact that their food is lightly seasoned to retain the natural sweetness of the ingredients. Coupled with crunchy boiled vegetables that complements the otherwise soft texture of the beef and rice, this nutrient packed meal definitely makes it to my top healthier choice list!

Good Breakfast Outlet Smile Oct 15, 2013

I enjoy going to Cedele for breakfast, not so much for its main courses, but more so for the variety of complementary bread selection! That said, I still find their mains to be quite appealing, hearty and delicious!

All in Breakfast Toast Set ($13.80)
Decided to try out their most expensive breakfast set as I was redeeming a voucher that required certain minimum value. I love their fluffy scrambled eggs and savoury sautéed mushrooms. The sausages were quite tasty though I find the skin a little too tough.

A pity, I feel, was the value-to-proportion of food served. If not for the complementary bread selection, the relatively hefty price tag would not be justified at all.

Nevertheless, Cedele remains one of my favourite bakeries! Do try out their sandwiches and yummy cakes!

Cafe with a Heart! Smile Oct 12, 2013

Was introduced to this social enterprise by a friend and we were pleasantly delighted not only by their extensive menu offerings and varieties, but admirable service level too! Professor Brawn truly stands by its mission to support and empower the disadvantaged amongst us.

The quirky interior – with its colourful walls, bookshelf backdrops, scribbling on the chalkboard with words of encouragement and compliments from customers of all walks - creates a laid back and enjoyable ambiance.

Black Pepper Steak ($18.90++)
The steak was well prepared with generous portions of potato wedges. Succulent, tender and lightly marinated, yummy!

Waffle with Ice Cream ($6.90++)
This was a highly recommended item by our friend. However, I thought the waffle was pretty average (perhaps cos it was not served hot?) and lacked the crisp and buttery fragrance I was anticipating. Nevertheless, the New Zealand Natural Ice Cream that accompanied the waffle was really rich and creamy!

Do drop by if you're around the vicinity to support this lovely little cafe for a good cause!
