Fern & Kiwi OK Dec 31, 2012
Categories : Australian / New Zealand | Bars/Lounges | Pasta

I'm excited to try new place to eats..
headed up to Fern & Kiwi, Fern & Kiwi is the international offshoot of successful New Zealand restaurant chain Lone Star and the Singapore venture is the company’s first step to sharing the best of New Zealand food, beverage and service with Asia, and the world.

Classic Pork Spare Ribs - A lone star Classic 18.5
slow baked ribs with a honey, hoisin and orange
glaze
comes in 3 sizez.. 18.50 for small rack, 33 for medium, 59 for mega rack..
We ordered the mega.. (a meal to be shared between 3 or 4 people)
The chunky ribs are sweet, tender enough, and have some fats that literally melts not in your mouth but in your fingers.
it's too sweet for my preference for meat.. I think it's the New Zealand ways to do the dish..

chicken supreme 34.0
grilled breast of chicken served with creamy mash potato, spinach
and slow roasted roma tomato and a roasted corn, capsicum and
mushroom salsa.

‘Canterbury Plains’ rack of lamb ($37)
served with twice roasted potato mash, a green bean salad,
mint and pea salsa and port wine jus.
The lamb is juicy, tender and doesn’t have the stench. This one is medium well but yet it is so much tender.

The Coastal Settlement Smile Dec 15, 2012

I'm a big fans of vintage. I fell in love with this place, The Coastal Settlement (TCS). I went there during a weekend, and it was indeed the perfect kind of place to go to chit chat with friends. These place is like a place to take a break from hectic metropolitan lifestyle. Surrounded by vintage furniture and nostalgic architecture, The restaurant offers local and western cuisine. We went there for brunch.

The brunch menu is available on weekends and public holidays from 11am to 4pm.
Eggs benedict ($17) Eggs Benedict, which may be my favorite brunch dish, comes with two poached eggs, ham and spinach on top of English muffins, drizzled generously with Hollandaise sauce.

cheese burger ($26) 180g wagyu beef patty, it was pretty tender, topped with melted smoked cheddar cheese, sliced mushrooms, bacon strips, mesclun salad & fries. The buns were toasted lightly and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside.

As for our dessert, the sea salt caramel cheesecake (oven baked cheesecake, sea salt caramel sauce $12) was pretty. However the sea salt cheesecake was far too salty for my preference.

There's always a room for desserts, I'm a sweet tooth and chocoholic..
if you love chocolate, and you like it thick, drop by to here...
try their chocolate tart S$8.50 (The chocolate tart is a must-try. Made of a creamy chocolate layer on a crispy hazelnut caramel biscuit, it is simply delicious.) basically it is like eating dark chocolate mousse.. if you are a fans of dark chocolate, go for this one..
second option for me is their trianon S$8.50 (Hazelnut biscuit base and chocolate cream) dark rich chocolate mousse combined with excellent hazelnut base.
third is Pleasure S$10.50 (A combination of chocolate sheets, whipped chocolate cream, ganache, hazelnut dacquoise and praline) soothes the sweet tooth.. reminds me of Ferrero Rocher. XD

The other MUST try is their souffle. The texture of the souffle is simply amazing, light and fluffy. Delicious! My fave is Rum & Raisins Souffle S$18 and

S$18. The vanilla sauce served in a mini jar and they are nicely sweetened and flavored.

Which is better you ask? I guess it really depends on your preference...

Five & Dime oozes a casual vibe serves simple comfort food.
I tried their mentaiko pasta($18) - spaghetti tossed in creamy mentaiko, topped with cod fish roe, since the staff recommended it. The distinctive flavour of mentaiko, it was creamy, but not too heavy.

and their
[VDO:4]
($22) - choice of scrambled or sunny side up eggs with pork bacon, chicken sausages, baked beans, sauteed mushrooms and thick toast.

Decent food at decent price. I would definitely go back again to try another menu.
