Sakae Monthy New dishes pt.2 Smile Jan 30, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi | Kids-Friendly

I went down for lunch with a friend and decided to try the sakae monthly dish again since i missed out a few the other time!

Food ordered:

Salmon Karaage - $2.29 (NOT A MONTHLY NEW DISH! LOL!)
Yummy! The salmon was not overfried and it was served pipping hot. Salmon was fresh and soft. It was very nice smelling too.

Monthly specials:

Blue Paradise Maki - $4.29
Interesting presentation! The blue thing is actually mayonnaise but they probably added some blue dye. It was quite pretty and it looked like there was some glitter as it 'glowed' under the light from above. The orange thing is kani - crabmeat and shishamo (?) fish eggs meat wrapped inside. I like this dish!

Hotate Jewels - $11.99

I think this dish is a little overpriced as there were only a few hotate bits and the dish were chicken cubes. The teriyaki sauce was very good though! It was carrots and bell peppers mixed in too.

Overall, I like the pepper seafood treasures and blue paradise maki out of the 4 monthly specials! I will be back to try others next month if it entices me!

The service at this branch was actually quite disappointing. I felt like the servers didn't want to be there and were so grumpy :/
I shall go back to the lot 1 branch next time!

My family and I went down to lot 1 for sushi and decided to try the new monthly creation that they had!
Sadly, a few of the items were out of stock and we could only try the 2 out of 5 of it, i think we went down too late and the chef was lazy or had already went home! ):

Food:

Pepper Seafood Treasures - $6.99

This dish came in a cute presentation, with the bell pepper exactly as it is in the first picture. When you open the cheese, there's salmon, mushrooms and chicken (?) Not very seafood-y but it was good! The bell pepper was crunchy and fresh and had this very.. natural taste. The cheese melted nicely and added to the fragrance of the salmon and mushroom.
lol

Seafood Hana Sushi - $8.99

I did not really like this dish because of the whitish thing at the top (raw squid if i'm not wrong), it tasted really mushy and had an awkward taste. I don't know how to describe it. The salmon sashimi that wrapped the sushi was pretty thin, about 2 pieces made 1 salmon sashimi, but they had about 3 pieces? So if i do the math, 9/2 = 4.5 pieces.. they sell 5 pieces for $6.99 if i'm not wrong, so this dish is quite worth it if you like the squid and salmon sashimi.

Salmon Sashimi (8pcs) - $9.99

Mandatory dish to order in a japanese restaurant!
The salmon sashimi was fresh.

Tip for ordering salmon sashimi: 8 pieces is a few cents cheaper than the 5 pieces one!

I like this outlet as the waiters are generally quite nice and although there seem to be a constant flow of newbies working, they were quite good in their service and were very eager to learn!
Hurry head down to try the monthly dishes before it's gone!

yummy!

Old cucumber pork ribs soup - $4.50

Very awesome soup! It was pipping hot when served!
Some pieces of pork ribs were cooked so well that the soft bone became edible! (SCORE!)

Store owner was very generous in giving the ingredients - old cucumber and the pork ribs and some nut
The soup was light and too very oily, although there were some fats from the pork floating on the top (which i personally didn't like) but i guess it was acceptable.

Soup is refillable!! But they only give the soup and only half a bowl (better than nothing!)

I will go back to try the other soups!

mini portions Cry Jan 30, 2013

Stingy stall owner! ):<

Each dish portion was only a small scoop of vege/meat!
Disappoiting.
Ordered the ladyfingers, brinjal and an egg - $2.60
(they count the egg as a vegetable, so i had 3 vegetable and rice)

I don't like this mixed rice stall as the dishes were a little cold even though i was there during the brunch hours.
The ladyfingers weren't too bad, i like that it wasn't the old ladyfingers which are very tough to pull apart due to the strong fibers
Brinjal was a bit oily but, still edible.
DON'T ORDER THE EGG!!!!! It is soooooooo salty because of the cai poh. I think they didn't clean it properly as it was extremely salty for me!

I don't like this stall as the scoopers were busy talking to each other than properly serving the customers. I mean, their saliva is practically pouring onto the dishes in front! huffy at least wear a mask for hygiene purposes!

I will probably not come back to this stall as foodfare has many other better options.

SEDAP! Smile Jan 30, 2013

Had this for brunch on a lovely Sunday morning with my family.
Ordered 4 dishes - cabbage, mutton, tofu + bean, spinach (?) = $5.60

Rice was very fragrant, a little mushy but still very delicious.
I ordered the cabbage as it was freshly cooked and piping hot! Their cabbage was the crunchy type, not those that becomes soggy.
Mutton was exceptionally good, one of my favourite place to have mutton! The meat was soft and the gravy was rich enough without being overpowering.
Tofu + bean was a bit spicy for me, lucky the rice was able to buffer the spiciness.
Spinach was normal, not too salty and there's no little sediments found in it, so it's clean very well.

The stall owner was also very friendly and i felt that she gives more than normal somehow.
Foodfare is generally very clean as the cleaners are prompt in their cleaning services to keep up with the ongoing stream of customers into the homely food court.

If you are an ntuc card member, there is discount for nasi lemak!

I recommend this stall as the dishes are all very nice and the rice is delicious!
Go in the morning (10-11am) for a greater variety of food as the dishes just came out!
