Fried Kway Teow Smile Dec 22, 2013

I was at Bedok Hawker Centre and I saw a long queue at this Hill Street Fried Kway Teow stall. I remembered that Hill Street Fried Kway Teow stall was at Hong Lim Hawker Centre, maybe this was another branch of theirs.

After queueing about 15 minutes, I ordered a plate of Fried Kway Teow at $3. The price was similar to Hong Lim branch.

The Fried Kway Teow had nice aroma of "Wok" smell. There was also vegetables, chinese sausages and cockles in the Fried Kway Teow. The Fried Kway Teow was very moist and kway teow had the tasted of "Wok" fried. I prefered less moist ones.

Overall, I find that the taste was quite similar to the one at Hong Lim Hawker Centre, maybe both stalls are of the same stall owner.

Sugar Cheese Pancake Cry Dec 18, 2013

This Kopitiam at Clementi is opened after a few months of renovation. I always wanted to try Ah Long new style of Pancake but never got a chance until now.

I had ordered a Sugar Cheese Pancake at $1.70 each. The pancake was freshly made when ordered, so will have to wait for at least 5 minutes to be ready.

The Pancake came in piping hot, outer skin was still moist and soft, not crispy. There was a mild butter aroma from the Pancake. The taste of pancake was a bit disappointing. There was more of the taste of egg than the taste or aroma of cheese.

Overall, I would still prefer traditional flavour pancake from the hawker centre.

Chirashi Set with Grilled Prawns Smile Dec 17, 2013

My friend wanted to have Japanese food, so we decided to dine in at Tonkichi. It was quite a long time I last dined at Tonkichi, I did not know they also sell Sashimi, I thought they only sell Tonkatsu set.

I decided to order the Chirashi Set with Grilled Prawns. When the order came, I was very pleasing to see such a nice placement of food.

The Chirashi had much more rice than the fish and shrimp roe given. Both fish and shrimp roe tasted fresh, slightly salty and burst of water in mouth when biting it. The Sashimi was also fresh and chilled, the tuna and the salmon meat was firm and soft to chew on while the raw prawn was slightly crunchy and sweet.

The grilled prawns had a nice aroma of BBQ, however the prawn had little meat, but nevertheless the meat tasted fresh and not powdery or mashy.

Overall, Tonkichi not only made good Japanese Pork Cultlet but also good in Sashimi dishes.

Recommended Dish(es):  Sashimi, Japanese Pork Cutlet

Recently there was a new Thai stall open in kopitiam, the staffs were all Thai people, speaking only basic english. There was quite a queue during lunch time. Hence I went to order their daily special Set B at $6.90.

The Set B consisted of Pandan rice, Fried boneless chicken leg and Papaya salad. The wait for the order was quite long, about 15 minutes for my set.

The pandan rice was green in colour, though I could not smell or taste any pandan flavour. The rice they used was white rice, not Thai Jasmine rice.

The fried boneless chicken leg was very good, crispy on the outside and tender in the meat. The outer layer had the marinated taste of spices and tumeric.

The papaya salad was disappointing, I could not taste any papaya flavour in the raw papaya , the salad was only crispy, sweet and sour.

Overall, the boneless chicken leg was very good, I hope I could just buy the chicken meat and ate with plain rice.

TuTu Kueh Smile Dec 16, 2013

I walked pass Westgate basement foodcourt and saw a Tutu Kueh kiosk. Normally, I only see tutu kueh selling in Pasar malam. Their tutu kueh cost 70 cents each. I ordered 5 pieces of tutu kueh at $3. I had to wait for more than 5 minutes as the tutu kueh was freshly made when ordered.

The coconut tutu kueh was good with pandan leaf aroma. The filling was sweet decicated coconut, it was fresh and sweet. The outer kueh skin was tasted like the texture of bread.

The peanut tutu kueh was also good with pandan leaf aroma. The filling was crushed roast peanut with sugar, not too sweet or over roasted, just right. The outer kueh skin was also tasted like the texture of bread.

Overall, the tutu kueh was good and their quality was also similar to pasar malam ones and cost more.
