Hot Chocolate OK Jul 24, 2013

Got myself a Hot Chocolate ($3.80) from McDonald's. The hot chocolate is thick and milky. Nearing the end of the drink, the taste gets even thicker and it may get so sweet that it stings your throat. Perhaps it's due to the extra cocoa powder that is added to the top. I only got this as I was trying to fill up my McCafe loyalty card. Would try other drinks on its menu such as the Himalayan Tea.

Empal penyet Smile Jul 24, 2013

The new Indonesia Penyet stall at the food court looks really attractive. It has pictures of almost every one of its dishes, unlike other stalls which only show pictures of some.

I opted for the Empal Penyet with Grilled Sauce ($5.90) as this was a healthier alternative to ayam penyet which is fried. The chili is extremely spicy!! Almost on par with the chili at Ayam Penyet Ria. The beef was not very consistent-- some parts were soft and other parts were harder. Although some parts were harder than other parts, it was still juicy and it doesn't take a lot of effort to chew. I will surely try out other dishes from here. Can't resist Indonesian food!

Satay bee hoon  OK Jul 23, 2013

I didn't know that EAT had so many outlets. The first EAT outlet that I've seen was at Rail Mall. Having moved to Choa Chu Kang a few months ago, I thought that I would have to travel to Rail Mall to eat there again. But lo and behold, there is a branch conveniently located at the basement of Lot 1. I ordered the Satay Bee Hoon ($4). It has some cuttlefish, kang kong and tau pok. Not too bad considering that this place is known for its fishball noodles and minced meat noodles. However, the serving size is quite small considering that you pay $4. However, when compared to the satay bee hoon at the Upper Bukit Timah Hawker Centre (next to Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School), I would choose the Upper Bukit Timah anytime.

Fries Smile Jul 23, 2013

I've always had a weakness for fries. Even though I know about the health drawbacks of fries, I can't help but indulge in fries once in a while. I bought the McDonald's fries that came with a packet of citrus thai seasoning. After shaking the bag to make sure that the seasoning was evenly spread out, I eagerly grabbed one fry to try. It was a burst of sweet, spicy and sour flavours at the same time. It tasted quite like tom yum actually. I would love it if McDonald's brought this shaker fries back again.

Categories : Food Court | Seafood | Zi Char

Heard a few good things about this zi char eatery so decided to give it a try for dinner.

This is the Stir-fried Chicken with Vegetables. Chicken chunks were a little larger than average and vegetables included broccoli, onions, carrots and mushrooms. Chicken was soft but a tad salty.

This is the Brinjal with Minced Meat in Spicy Sauce. The sauce goes very well with rice! Brinjal was flavourful even though it was rather oily. You can see a layer of oil floating above the sauce. Brinjal serving was so-so.

We also had the Homemade Tofu with Spinach in Superior Stock. This is considered the best dish out of the 4 that we had. Tofu was soft and silky and the tofu skin was nicely infused with the stock. The tofu skin wasn't too hard to break apart as well so that made eating easy.

Lastly, the Sliced Fish and Bittergourd in Black Bean Sauce. Ming Kitchen is extremely stingy with their sliced fish! There were only about 5 slices of fish and the rest were bittergourd. I know that fish is more expensive than vegetables but this is ridiculous.

I would try the seafood dishes next time since this place is known for its seafood.

Spending per head: Approximately $10(Dinner)
