Breakfast food OK Jul 30, 2013

This is the Century Egg Porridge. It was filled to the brim but in my haste to eat it immediately, I forgot to take a photo of it when it first came. The porridge comes with small crackers, the kind you get in an yu sheng. This porridge was nice and warm, not too runny. I like the taste of the shallots in the porridge.

We also got the Steamed Rice Roll with Sesame Sauce ($3.80). I expected this to taste more like chee cheong fun but it was more chewy and seemed more like rice cakes instead. I didn't really like the sesame sauce. It was too sweet for me. Didn't manage to finish this rice roll dish.

kopi OK Jul 29, 2013

This is your typical kopi ($0.90) at a coffeeshop. Without fail, my father orders this cup of kopi everytime we frequent a coffeeshop. I remember that I used to stir in the condensed milk for him all the time. I thought I'd try this out and see for myself what keeps my dad coming back for more. I'm not an expert coffee-drinker so pardon my lack of knowledge. To me, this seems like a normal cup of coffee that I can make with an instant packet of coffee powder. Nothing great or phenomenal about it. I guess it's the experience of drinking it at a local coffeeshop that keeps my dad coming back for more and makes it a delightful drink for him.

For an after-dinner dessert, I headed to MOF for some good ol' Japanese dessert. This is a the Premium Japanese Red Bean with Matcha Gelato ($6.80). The red bean paste was very smooth and creamy. The paste also contains some semi-solid red beans and it made the experience enjoyable. However, it was a little too sweet for me. If eaten together with the green tea or the dumplings, then it isn't that bad. I like the green tea ice cream as it was really quite solid. Perhaps the green tea choices at MOF are the best, judging from the quality of their green tea as well.

Steamed food OK Jul 28, 2013

This is the Steamed Pork Ribs with Black Bean ($4.50). The pork ribs were rather small and did not have much meat. It was mostly bones. I like the peppery taste in the gravy though.

This is the Signature Dish- Sausage, Chicken and Mushroom ($6.50). The sausage was good as it did not contain too much fat and it felt healthier. Chicken was smooth and had the taste of the gravy infused in the skin. Mushrooms were big and juicy.

This is the Kai Lan with Special Sauce ($3.50). I found the kai lan sauce to be quite salty. I told the stall worker that it was salty and she replied that it is their special sauce and it comes that way. This explanation was insufficient as their chef could have lessened the amount of salt that was added in. Vegetables looked fresh and had a vibrant green colour to it.

I will try other dishes at this stall as it does seem healthier. They also offer a brown rice option instead of the normal white rice.

pork floss bun OK Jul 28, 2013

This is Breadtalk's Signature Pork Floss Bun ($1.70). The price has increased over the years and honestly, I don't think it is worth it for this price. I can get the same bread elsewhere for a lot cheaper and the quality would be about the same. I only patronized BreadTalk as I was in a mall and there didn't seem to be another bakery. Nevertheless, the bread was indeed soft and the floss was fluffy. I don't doubt that BreadTalk sells quality bread but I find that the price is a little steep.
