Cold dessert on a hot day Smile Dec 31, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre | Desserts and Cakes

I ordered the cold dessert, Ice kachang, which costs an average market price of $1.60. it contained the typical shaved ice, different syrups and some corn paste at the top of it. in the bottom of the bowl were some jelly. the store was generous in their portion with the ice, though the syrups were not evenly mixed.

it contained a little carnation milk as well to make it sweet. it was a refreshing dessert in the sweltering weather of Singapore. it was a lady who was serving and she managed to put together the ice ka chang fairly quickly, which tells of her experience with the dessert store!

perhaps i would go back there again to eat the hot dessert, which is a favourite among the senior citizens there!

From the heart of France Smile Dec 30, 2013

Categories : French | Bakery | Café | Desserts and Cakes

Lovin' it that Paul is infiltrating Singapore with the delectable Paris bakery cuisine. Indeed, it is as authentic as it can get! The flour is flown all the way from Paris, but they still keep the prices really low. However, the service was a little different because in France, the typical service is unfriendly expressions and the servers will be impatient if you stand there too long to think about what you would like to select. I love their service in Singapore, who explained to me what the different pastries contained! smile

I love the way they present their pastries and savouries. The store layout is exactly the same as it is in Paris.

The soft warm glow keeps the pastries hot, so that when you eat it, it'll taste warm and crispy.

Croissant - SGD2.70
I took away croissant and ate it for the next day's breakfast. It still tasted crispy after putting on the oven, and the best part is, Paul Bakery's confectionaries are NOT as oily as compared to other bakeries! The bread was still fluffy, soft and nice.

Grille Pomme- SGD3.80
This was too sweet for my taste, but it is how the French love it. The Apple compose was placed on top of the puff pastry, and additional apple paste are spread across the rectangular pastry. It was so filling and so sweet that I would recommend it to be shared among two people! Perfect with tea tongue

Garlic Naan! OK Dec 30, 2013
Categories : Indian | Halal

Prata Wala has become a chain of indian restaurants, regularly visited by indians and both chinese alike. The highlight of the restaurant includes of course the traditional roti prats and other more traditional indian cuisine such as paneh and all types of indian curry.

I ordered their cheapest, garlic naan at $3.80. i have heard many raving good reviews about the naan and decided to try, hoping that there will not be too high an expectation.

truly it has lived up to its reputation! the naan was thick on the inside, and crispy on the outside. it also carried the smell of garlics, and even though it may irk people off, to me it smelled very fragrant! i loved the curry that accompanied with it as well, most probably a simple red curry. if you want to order any other type of curry, the cheapest one would be at least $6+!

i waited really long for my naan, about 20 minutes. the service was really slow. huffy

Delectable wanton mee OK Dec 30, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre | Noodles

The char siew tasted like a vegetarian type of meat, because there were no fats and it was very lean. in fact, it tasted a little like flour with some added colourings.

the noodle was thin and delectable, it was springy and fun to chew on it. it was a great time slurping the noodles down. the wanton mee costs only $2.50, very affordable in this day and age. there was also ample green vegetables and accompanying wanton in soup, which tasted more saltier than average wanton mee!

Lovin' chicken rice for only $3 Smile Dec 30, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hawker Centre | Porridge/Congee | Chicken Rice

Price aside, Tiong Bahru Wah Yuen is a brand of its own. I ordered shao ji fan (roasted chicken rice) for $3, and the chicken was boneless and they gave a lot of meat. very generous with their portion.

the rice was fragrant with chicken flavour, perhaps using chicken rice paste. the chilli is home-made! i would definitely go back to visit the store again when passing by the area as the chicken used is so fresh and juicy! smile
