Carrot Cake Smile Nov 23, 2012

Finally get to taste the fried carrot cake from this stall by CHANCE. Yes, it's by chance. Why? Well, becoz this stall always has long Q and even if I can afford the time to Q, by my lunch time, the owners are in the midst of calling it a day as they finished whatever they sells for the day.

I'm so so lucky that my colleague help me ta bao lunch bought from the "wrong" stall. I didn't realize until i open the packing.

Trademark of carrot cake from this stall are delicious big chunks of carrot cake and generous servings of eggs. Yummy...no wonder it's delicious. Most importantly, the moist fluffy kueh are nicely pan fried till golden brown on the outside. smilesmilesmile

Comforting Dessert  Smile Nov 23, 2012

A bowl of warm tau suan makes a comforting dessert, especially on a wet rainy afternoon.

The consistency of tau suan is just nice, not too starchy nor too runny. Sweetness is just right, not too bland where you get to taste the steamed beans. The dessert is being serve together with some you tiao which absorbed the sweetness of the dessert. Simply awesome! smile

Smooth & Silky Smile Nov 23, 2012

Cold soya beancurd from 69 makes a great supper! I was being recommended by a fren that the strawberry and mango beancurd are super delicious hence I bought some home to try.

I'm rather surprised to come across the wide varieties they have here. Flavours like green tea, durian etc....

Being the playsafe type of people, I opt for almond beancurd. Wow...what i can say is "almost drinkable soya beancurd" It taste something like lao ban dou hua where it's smooth and silky. smilesmilesmile Delicious and not so sweet.

No gypsum powder..no wonder it's drinkable! lolz... Will be back more durian flavour next time!

Cheap Breakfast Smile Nov 23, 2012
Categories : French | Bakery

This is 1 of my favourite bakery where I usually buy my breakfast from. All their bread and buns are selling at $1.10 each. A few of the "seemingly expensive buns like chicken floss, otah, polo bun with char siew etc... are also selling at this cheap rate. WOW... to be frank, initially I was attracted by the reasonable pricing, but after a few visits, seems like being more welcomed by the friendly service staff.

Here's my favourite ham and cheese bun. Looks delicious isn't it? Although it looks common, just like the ham & cheese bun from most bakeries. But.... texture is different.

1stly, the ham isn't that salty.
2ndly, the bun isn't overbaked. The texture is soft and moist, not the dry and stiff type. Can tell that the baker controls the baking time very well.

Besides bread and buns, there are other bakes like pastries, tarts, pies and cakes. Caught sight of these cute little tarts where they are selling at 3 for $1.00. Cool!

Recommended Dish(es):  Potato ham bun, otah bun,

Enjoyable Lunch! Smile Nov 17, 2012
Tucked away from the noisy crowd, Double Spout Cafe is situated in a quiet corner in Heartland Mall. The cafe has a open roof concept where the dining facilities are only separated out by low walls where customers can have a feel enjoying the food in the mall itself, but not within a shop.

This cafe serve fusion cuisine. From western delights like pasta, grilled fish to eastern dishes like hor fun, muifan etc... Most attractive of all is that they do not charge GST or service charge.

A wide variety to choose from...

Even daily promo...

Here's mine, seafood spaghetti with tomato and herbs sauce. Pasta is slightly overcooked, but acceptable. The tangy sauce has a mild herbs taste with sweet and sour tomato bits. $8.90 for a portion with 3 medium prawns and mussels is considered worth the price.

! of my colleague has a seafood aglio olio. Verdict given by her is : not too bad, taste normal like the usual aglio olio.

Another of my colleague had a teriyaki chicken with garlic fried rice. Her verdict: NEVER eat it during lunch time or when you are super hungry. Reason: the waiting time is too long. The chef took more than 20 mins to serve and the reason given is: the chicken thigh is very big, more difficult to cook. But, the overall taste is good as the garlic rice is well fried and the chicken is well grilled.

Here's the bill, a proof where gst and service charge were not charged to us...no wonder this place is popular with students as it's well affordable. Well, i'll be back for more. smile
