For a while, I couldn’t make up my mind which to choose. So we went for the mudpie extravaganza ($11.80), which was a combination of cookie monster, jedi mudster and grandma goes nuts.

A sinful concoction of double chocolate chip, mocha almond fudge and macadamia nut ice cream with cookie chunks sitting on a crisp oreo cookie base. Complete with chocolate fudge and whipped cream, every mouthful was a sheer delight. The velvety ice cream was studded with peanuts, almonds and marshmallows which added flavor and texture. Extremely satisfying for my sweet tooth, but its size no longer wowed me. It’d shrunk considerably.

The goldmine cheesecake ($7.20) was essentially ally’s new york cheesecake with chocolate chunks, slathered with chocolate fudge topping on an oreo cookie base. Rich creamy cheese with an equally rich chocolate to go along with. A goldmine indeed!

We spent a couple of hours getting high on sugar. The mudpie would’ve to last quite a while since it’s not wise to repeat this indulgence often.

Service was polite and efficient. Our cups were never left empty for too long.

Jack's Place Smile Jan 20, 2013

The place always seemed crowded when we walked past during lunch time whenever we were at Anchorpoint. Hence, decided to try it on a Friday.

Getting a seat needed patience. We had a service staff who didn't talk to us, just motioned with his hand for us to wait. That's that. Anyway, managed to get a seat and decided to get one daily set lunch and one executive set lunch. Both sets come with soup of the day, dessert and coffee/tea. The executive set lunch had 5 main course to choose from (with varying prices) while the daily set lunch allows a selection out of 2 main courses.

My friend had the ribeye steak (@16++) while I had the chicken chop set (@11.90++). The soup of the day was cream of spinach soup. The soup was alright and it fills us up pretty quickly. Next, was our main course. The waitress forgot to bring the sour cream and condiments for the baked potato and getting their attention would be challenging as they seemed shorthanded.

The steak looked good. The portion with fats tasted best. Baked potato seemed to be slightly undercooked. I liked the chicken chop though the top parts were rather dry due to being seared for a tad too long. The thigh meat was tender and juicy at its meatier parts. It came with small potatoes that tasted yummy. Would rather they throw in coleslaw, salad or broccoli or baby carrots instead of the corn and big sliced carrots combo.

Overall, service was a bit patchy but that was probably due to the large lunch crowd.

A very small place, with only about 2 tables for 6 and 3 round tables, all tucked in small corners. The range of food is also very limited. Just a place to curb those desperate hunger pangs.

Usually, people will just have a takeaway. However I was really free that day so i decided to just have a seat and enjoy my breakfast. The meal was a simple one with croissant, scramble eggs and two additional chicken chipolata which I side-ordered at $1.50 for both. The meal came with a hot coffee which taste relatively normal.

However, there is still room of improvement for the services. Overall, the place is generally quite an okay place for quick breakfast. Price wise, i think it's quite expensive for a meal like this.

Soup spoon @ Raffles exchange Smile Dec 20, 2012

Since I first stumbled upon their Raffles Xchange outlet, I have been dining fairly regularly at their various outlets around the island.

Soups, Stews, Purees, Broths, Bisques & Bread Bowls
They offer a good range of soups in their regular menu, and also have a special rotating menu every 2 weeks. What I like about their soups is that it's heartening, chock-full of ingredients (except purees), and overall pretty healthy. Even their regular size bowl would probably satisfy big eaters, while those with small appetites might want to share.

Tip: Do ask to see / sample the soup before buying, so you know exactly what you're getting, to prevent getting stuck with a big bowl of something you don't like.

Upgrade your soup to a bread bowl for a more satisfying experience.

Crusty Pot Pies
There are no pictures of this on the menu, nor can you sample it, so it's easy to miss. Which would be a shame, as they have really excellent Pot Pies. Basically a bowl of soup covered with a pastry crust, it's served with coleslaw and a drink. The pastry is light and flaky, though I personally dislike the taste of their coleslaw - Too sour for me. Only made upon order.

Note: They offer a few flavors of soup which are not available on the regular menu for their Pot Pies. You can however "Create Your Own" Pot Pie by selecting a soup from the regular menu.

Sandwiches & Wraps
While their sandwiches are tasty, I feel that overall they are not so value for money, as the fillings are quite little in proportion to the huge Focaccia loaf they come in. Could be better if the quantity of the fillings was increased.
Their wraps however, are value for money, with more fillings than the sandwiches, and are also tasty.
Both sandwiches and wraps are made only upon order, and the ingredients used are always fresh.

Service
Efficient and polite. Made upon order food always arrives within 5 minutes, with a smile. When asking to sample their over-the-counter soups, staff are patient, helpful and knowledge about the ingredients and preparation of each soup. Tables are cleared promptly after a customer leaves, and they also seem quite enthusiastic to clear your tray the minute you sit down at the table. I've even received compliements one would normally expect to hear at fine-dining restaurants, like "Excellent Choice, Sir!"

The Soup Spoon Smile Dec 20, 2012

Initially wanted to try the soup with bread on top of the bowl (I kinda forget the name... Pot-something) but since i am not that hungry, I went for the normal soup while my friend went for a set instead.

+ Chicken Mushroom (Wrap)

The filling of the wrap tasted very Asian or maybe very Chinese. Its like some home -cooked dish where you cooked chicken breast meat, mushroom and veg together for dinner. Nothing special. I can't even identify the veg until I saw the description of the dish online. Romaine Lettuce? I would have thought it is spinach. It is kind of hard to cut the veg inside the wrap.

+ Simon and Garfunkel Chicken and Mushroom Ragout

It is a rich, creamy soup. It is not soupy though. It is filled with marinated chunks of chicken and mushrooms. My friend tasted potatoes while i found a chunks of carrots in the soup. A little too dry for soup as it will serve better as a dish to accompany rice instead. Not bad tasting, quite filling. Just not really for a soupy-soup lover, if you know what i mean.

+ Roasted Pumpkin with Caramelized Apple & Toasted Almonds

Pumpkin soup that does not had a strong pumpkin taste, but it is definitely as rich as the Ragout. I did not taste any apple in the soup. My friend did not topped the soup with almonds hence i couldn't give comments on whether the ingredients works together.

The service was fast and nice, I have to give it that.

I think it's value for money. Despite the fact that it isn't really soup they're giving you, but stew, it's pretty filling. Along with the set meal which comes with another wrap or a sandwich. You'll definitely be full.
